Tonight seems defining. Truly believe we bottled it. Our rivals will kick on now.
Expect another tough game against Palace, who also raise their game against us.

Truth be told our sub options are just too w*nk.

Simply not enough rotation going on and making subs early when we are well ahead. We looked knackered from the start. Ole has to trust a few more players like Fred and Mctominay. Another game in three days is going to be very hard.

De Gea, Maguire and Lindelof all had good games until they all collectively fecked up in the last minute. They all have that error in them, and this time they happened to have it at the same time. Gutting.

Taken in the context of what it was, it's probably a good point. They've beaten City, they've beaten Chelsea, we played shite for all but 10 minutes and Southampton were much the better team. It's not the worst point in the world. But coming in added time, when we again had the chance to leapfrog Chelsea yet didn't take it...

Sickening.

Now we realise the gap in quality between us and City/Liverpool.

We can’t go in next season with James as our outlet with Fred and McT as our midfield options if Pogba and Bruno aren’t firing
Yes. The return of a firing Pogba (except today) and Bruno shows how we lack with that Fred and McTominay combo. Our options outside that first 11 are limited creatively

Bad tactics lost us the game. You can't bring on Fred when you're against strong players. You need grit not a blue-arsed fly running all over the place acheiving nothing. MacTominay should have replaced Pogba if anyone.

Never nice to concede a late goal, but it is what it is.

Think we were quite slow in the first half and deservedly went down. Got ourselves back into the game, following two great goals by Rashford and Martial, respectively.

Second half was better. Used the width a bit better and created good openings but failed to get that two goal cushion, which I feel would have killed the game.

Wasn't meant to be. We have three games left. We win all three and we're in the top four. Im still very confident.

Both Leicester and Chelsea have much more difficult games left.

We really are, it's shocking to see. We need to come out fighting and put a few in early against Palace, top 4 is so so important
17 games or whatever unbeaten, absolutely horrendous, get them all checked in with the quack! How dare they have a average game and lose a last minute goal with 10 men on the pitch!

Wan bissaka was bad at Villa. Today he was worse. He seriously needs to improve his game on the ball. He's like a second division player the amount he gives it away cheaply.

The worrying thing is just how much we lack composure defensively. We were winning this game and should have been able to see it out. You need your defence to be calm and to be solid. The fact is that we've conceded two bad goals, one at the start of the game and one at the end.

To me, we just don't seem to pay enough attention to the defensive side of the game as we do the attacking part. There's a huge disparity between the two. This was an important game and, unfortunately, we've not done what we should have done.

I know we had chances, but there didn't seem the same fire tonight to go out and pump this side. It seems like mentally we already thought we were in the Champions League for next season and it was a done deal.
When was the last time we conceded a goal where you think - yeah, not much we could have done there?

They all seem to be huge feck ups

Shame about the result after that great run, but doesn’t feel like a “it was all a false dawn after all” kind of result. Southampton played outstandingly well I thought and sometimes you have to accept that two teams influence the final result, it went just about our deficiencies. Plenty of flaws in our performance for sure, as well as from the manager. But this is a young team that’s still developing, including Ole, and we’ll have to put up with these bumps in the road for a little longer yet. Given our games to come I still think we have a good shout of getting into the CL. One to take on the chin.

Can we leave off the bottling comments. Southampton played like their lives depended on it, and got such a lucky break with the 10 men incident and getting off the red card, and the martial missed chance. We led for most of the game. Sometimes bullshit happens.

There's more to come in this campaign, Beat palace and west ham by a few goals and we could only need a draw vs a poor Leicester. That was our hardest game and we didnt get beat and on every other day closed that off.

That's assuming Chelsea and Leicester have a perfect run in.

Chelsea have got liverpool and wolves, Leicester have got Spurs and Sheff Utd. Both are tricky games!

Relax!
This is true. If we win the next two and Leicester drop points in both games we might have actually qualified before the final game.

The worst part is the serious lack of composure on the ball.

We didn't keep the ball well at all in the last 30 minutes.

How does this absolve Lindelof. Don't give up goal side, basic defending. He was weak. If it was someone like Vidic, he would fought to be in right position.
what sort of rubbish is this? Like Vidic was always flawless every minute of every game and positioned like some robot. He was a terrific defender but you need to give your head a wobble.

We can’t win every game. Yet.
No one can. I understand the emotion, but folks here need to get a grip. Not the end of the world.

I worry for the mental states of some folks, it's just one extreme to the next with some

Will we ever be 4th again? We don't seem to want it.

There is 3 average teams going for two places , each of them falling over the line.

The two least worse teams will get top 4. I would not trust us having to go and win at Leicester on the final day. This feels like a big two pts dropped.

Not the worst result. Probably should have gone into half time 3 or 4-1 up. I can understand why Ole is reluctant to make subs early. But, hopefully that'll get sorted.

Team looked a bit tired. Southampton were absolutely relentless with the press. But, TBH, they barely did anything in the 2nd half besides 1 DDG save and the goal. Another night, this would have been a stroll but, we left an opportunity for them by not finishing our chances. On to Crystal Palace where we should hopefully see a resurgence. 18 games unbeaten now.

I would like to know what Ole was doing. Southampton were on top and our game plan seemed to be to kick the ball back to them. He just sat there motionless.

It was a disgraceful performance. You can forgive poor performances if the players made an effort but they did not seem to want to win that game.

Top teams don't park the bus for the last 25 minutes up 1 goal against teams like Southampton.
Thats the most disappointing thing. Very low IQ defensive work letting them play triangles endlessly, and then us hoofing the ball away with no semblance of control. The really bad stuff under Ole returning again.

Bonkers this forums is. We destroy teams and the post-match is 3-5 pages. We draw and it’s 12 inside 20mins.

Yes it’s shit but we’ve still gained ground on the top 4.

Chelsea still have Liverpool and Wolves, Leicester has Sheff Utd next, they’ll drop more points.

Four great wins in a row playing very good football and the post match threads creep to 7 or 8 pages after a few days.

We drop points and its at 10 pages after 15 minutes. Why don't you people feel the need to comment and praise the team when we play well? Why are you so quick to vent your anger as soon as you get the opportunity?

Its pathetic really. To those of you that posted in here tonight but couldn't be arsed after the good wins - shame on you
I think it's more a case that there's much more to discuss when we don't win, to be fair.

Much agreed, long balls to nobody, most of the possession was in the United half.

It's easy for you. What we need to do, is defend better. What we need to do is NOT give the ball away outside our box etc....We need to focus on defending properly because offensively we're still in good shape. The players need to cut out little mistakes. I'm sure we'll see changes but the defenders need to wake up. But tonight we were unlucky with the injuries which I think changed the result.

Twats - that’s what!! They think we have a god given right to win EVERY game. Wish they would just feck off and support City!

There was an air of completency from the first whistle.

And apart from the short spell where we turned it on and turned it around, it was a largely poor lethargic performance (similar to the Villa game, but we got away with it that time)

Really really frustrating because we should be 3rd right now with our destiny in our hands.
