That finish was a kick in the nuts, but to be fair there was bound to be a game where we'd feck it up more or less. After all there are games every 3 days or so and there is some tiredness as well.

There have been many freak results/performances after the pandemic break so we're no exception. It's still in our hands and I'm fairly certain we'll displace Leicester.

No need to overreact...

We never lost. This the best team we faced since lockdown and they equalised when we down to 10 men after losing two left backs.

We still got Europa league and still pressurising Chelsea and Leicester...

The odds are stacked in our favour

The one thing is I’m so glad to feel this gutted about losing a game. For the last few seasons it’s felt like a bit of a given, but I’m actually really pissed about this. The recent run of form has given football emotion again.

Gutted by that. Second half wasn't pretty, but I still expected us to see it out. A terrible time to lose a bit of momentum in our charge towards third. :(

We really weren't unfortunate to draw, we got outplayed at our own place.

It was unlucky to lose two left-backs, sure, but we played shite regardless of that.
do you think we would of conceded with 11 men on the pitch?
Southampton apart from 1 shot didn’t trouble Dave too much

we’ve been on fire since the restart, we draw one game, simmer down

An inswinging corner kick that is inside the 6 about 3 yards from the keeper and he just stands there rooted to his line rather than take control and punch it away. Ugh...

This game showed you how thin our squad actually is, the drop off if things don't go well with our first 11 is just a million miles away from where it needs to be. You knew as soon as those changes were made, and they needed to be done, we were deep deep in trouble.

There goes the CL football. How can we drown such an important result down the toilet? James was useless, it was clear that we are not able to do a CA. We needed to hold up the play. Ighalo should have been used for that. "Unlucky" with those injuries but thats what you get when you try to rely on injury prone players. We need a LB badly. That goal was coming for the last 20min. It was the matter of time. The worst thing was that players did not fight for the CL spot. This was the time to fight like there's no tomorrow. So dissappointed...
Well I don't agree with most of this. But you make a very very valid point about bringing on Igahlo. We needed hold up play.

The second goal is on DDG. Why on earth he didn't step out and catch the ball, only God knows. If highest paid goalkeeper doesn't have balls to catch or punch the ball in last dying minute then just replace him next year. Cannot continue with him any longer.
I'm done with ddg

I'd be interested to see how many long balls we played after the 60th minute, to nobody at all.

from the 60th minute it felt like when you are 2-1 up in the 93rd minute just trying to waste time to get the whistle to blow. (with 30 minutes to go)

Behind the right goal post as "Whiteside shoots!"
He wasn't. It's his fault we lost. Basic defending. You can't let a man get goal side on you on a corner.
Rubbish.

7 players go to the front post and not one of them gets the ball or a decent challenge in.

We've got a goalie who looks like his feet are nailed to the line.

That left Lindelof by himself and they had other players there too. He could have done better yes but if you're going to ignore the stupid rush to the near post and a static goalie, then you can ignore Lindelof too

FFS. He should not have taken off Bruno.

I just knew once we went down to ten men that we would concede. Day fecking ruined.

The worrying thing is just how much we lack composure defensively. We were winning this game and should have been able to see it out. You need your defence to be calm and to be solid. The fact is that we've conceded two bad goals, one at the start of the game and one at the end.

To me, we just don't seem to pay enough attention to the defensive side of the game as we do the attacking part. There's a huge disparity between the two. This was an important game and, unfortunately, we've not done what we should have done.

I know we had chances, but there didn't seem the same fire tonight to go out and pump this side. It seems like mentally we already thought we were in the Champions League for next season and it was a done deal.

Bailly is a terrible defender. The last time we seen him he was giving away a penalty rather than just letting the ball go out for a corner.
Mate that was Matic's fault any way you look at it. Very harsh penalty too.

We could go on and on about who is the better partner for Maguire, but at the end of the day we can get someone better than both.

What a surprise, pressure on to win and these jokers crumble as per usual. Who would have thought? If we fail to qualify for the CL with how terrible Chelsea and Leicester have been recently then we will never make it. Bottling clowns.

Only one joker around here

I thought we would hold on after half time when we were 2-1 up. How navie I was to assume that we would actually NOT bottle it for a change. There is is still much work to be done on this team. One player in the make of Fernandes clearly isn't enough.

Much work to be done over the summer.

The players are clearly tired, need to rotate bit the back up is poor.

Southampton should have seen a red, VAR seems utterly useless.

Some bad luck with the injury, but we had chances to score the third, but they defended very well at those key moments.

We were poor, tired and struggled with their press. But if VAR does it job and Williams doesn’t go off, we would’ve done it. But the dropping back and playing like we had ten men (before the Williams injury) was a disgrace. Lindelof letting a midget outmuscle him was the last straw for me with this wet wipe.

They never really looked liked doing anything apart from a set piece. We should've finished the game. Only have ourselves to blame.

Red Card for Casemiro!
Everyone saying credit to Southampton - what credit?

They were fouling our players all day long with nasty cynical late tackles and the ref was letting them get away with it. Romeu had no business being on the pitch - VAR of course does nothing because they're completely fecking inept. They were a man up when they scored as well. Hassenhutl looks like he wants to go home and wank to a picture of Klopp, and get his teeth done by the same dentist. They left spaces behind the full backs and couldn't capitalize on our own ineptness in possession.

We fecked up - we weren't clinical today - Martial and Rashford both missed some great chances. Bruno was off the pace, Pogba gave the foul away, Ole didn't account for injuries while making subs and Lindelof got outmuscled by a player a foot shorter than him in the last minute. We did what we do everytime we're under pressure - we collapse.

This game was a test of the team's mentality - to see if we can rise up to the challenge and take that third spot. And every single time the players and the manager have failed to rise to the occasion.

18 games unbeaten and coming back to score 2 is all well and good, but it doesn't mean much if you don't keep your head when it counts the most. Teams have purple patches, players have games in good form - but top teams win even when things aren't going their way, under pressure. We're not that team, yet.

While obviously top four is still in our hands, each of the remaining games is way more tougher now, and we don't do well under such pressure in the league of late. We have to wait and see if we have any fit left backs left for the rest of those games as well. Not to mention the huge psychological boost it'll give Chelsea and Leicester.

That's De Gea in a nutshell when it comes to corners. I don't think I've ever not been nervous when we've conceded a corner with him in goal. He just isn't demanding at all.

I thought Lindelof had been very good up until injury time.

Quite a few players had an off night, Pogba and Fernandes far too casual at times and went for the Holywood option too often. The shape of the team while on the back foot was horrible at times, though, far too many passing channels left wide open and too many 2 v 1 situations.

In fairness, Soton did their homework beforehand and played to United's weaknesses. Even then, a bit more luck in front of goal and it would have been very different.

Still a sign of progress, that so many tired players could have an off night and not lose (just look at Chelsea and Leicester).

I wouldve kept Pogba and Bruno on until we led by 2 goals to be honest. We needed to lead by 2 goals to be safe and when those 2 aren't playing we struggle to make chances from midfield to attack.
20/20 and all that but yeah, one goal is rarely enough, as we found out when that paddy scored.

For someone who was so lucky in his playing career, OGS really has not had ANY since joining Manchester United.

Losing players to injuries in key moments or for long periods. Then going down to ten men today for absolutely no fault of our own.

Literally minutes away from securing 3 points.

Four great wins in a row playing very good football and the post match threads creep to 7 or 8 pages after a few days.

We drop points and its at 10 pages after 15 minutes. Why don't you people feel the need to comment and praise the team when we play well? Why are you so quick to vent your anger as soon as you get the opportunity?

Its pathetic really. To those of you that posted in here tonight but couldn't be arsed after the good wins - shame on you

5th place due to GD as Southampton got rolled 9-0 to Leicester.

Always knew a last minute equalizer from a set piece could have been a wobble because it was only a one goal margin and then defending with 10 men when United were looking more like seeing off with 11 as Williams was defending well.

Really unlucky with that end result as Southampton didn't offer anything the 2nd half other than Redmond's shot.

Did anyone else think that Rashford chance late on was deflected for the corner?
