Premier League Gameweek 14

You clearly don't watch him enough. Probably buy into the media stance of him being just another Fellaini cos he can head the ball.
I do, he hides from the ball, can't manipulate it at all. They desperately need to partner Rice with someone better than what they are throwing next to him.

Cliche as this sounds I'd be more worried if he wasn't getting the chances.

Lampard isn't using him properly, he's playing him a hug the touchline winger when he should be tucking in right behind Tammy.

Werner and Havertz have the same problem : you don't really know how to use them in a team because they have talent but can't find a specific position on the pitch. It'd take a genious coach to make something out of 2 players like that in the same team.

West Ham have gotten points without Antonio, but today his name was thrown out there because West Ham were so shit and they were using Haller as a scapegoat.

Haller isn't all that good and doesn't play that big or physical for his size, but Antonio wouldn't have made a difference when there is zero service.

Poor from West Ham and average from Chelsea, but got the full result.

I know many non Chelsea fans don't rate Mount, but I'd have him at United. He has a high work rate, quick feet, and works for his team. Chelsea plays much more solid as a team when Mount is next to Kante.

I'd like to see us use a 4-3-1-2 if our wingers aren't fit & firing - Werner up top playing off of Tammy, with Havertz in behind. Would require both James and Chilwell to be on song to provide the width, though.

It was classic Moyes away from home against a big side to be honest.

Neat and tidy but no threat and then by the end they're comfortably beaten. He's been watching games like this for 20 years from the sidelines.

Giroud should be nowhere near our first XI. Lampard playing him over Tammy on the basis of 4 goals against Sevilla's B team has been ludicrously stupid. We are so so so much worse out of possession with Giroud in the team.

Long term like a lot of teams you need a top striker but for this season I think Giroud is the best you've got especially with the crosses you put in

Let’s offer him the Utd job then eh?

I think Werner is going through a bad patch but he still keeps trying and getting chances once he hits a purple patch he will score many goals.
Once he hits a purple patch is not enough for such a big signing and of course to lead the line. Even if he doesn’t lead the line and plays from the sides, I still feel Chelsea have better options. Not convinced of him at all. I know he has age on his side but I feel technically he’s not all that great. May have a decent shot but is wasteful.

I think he's a great weapon against a low block but he is completely useless when it comes to pressing - this is a major feature of our game under Lampard and I don't think it's a coincidence we've been cut through more easily of late with Giroud up top.

Werner agrees with you and all the people that say Lampard either doesn't know how to use him or just chooses to play him in a way that is completely unfamiliar to him.

“It’s not yet what I imagined myself. I am always ambitious and set myself high standards. I want to score goals and take responsibility, like I did in Leipzig.

“I now play a completely different position than at RB. I came through the middle, out of the attacking midfield. With Julian Nagelsmann I even played as an 8 sometimes. This is of course something completely different now, I have to find myself again here.

“I’ve played good games here on the left and on the right wing, but I’ve never been able to radiate the goal danger that distinguished me from the centre at Leipzig.

The team is going through a funny period. Creating chances usually isn't a problem for this team. I'm sure the attack will start clicking again, perhaps upon Ziyech's return?
When is ziyech returning?

Ehm, they are outperforming their xG by quite a bit.
And they have strikers who cant score so what is it worth?
Its not even just this season, we had this exact same discussion last year when you told me Chelsea would stay above us due to XG.

I could see him knocking in hat tricks once his confidence is up.

We'll have to agree to disagree then. He's been West Ham's best player this season. He's partly the reason why Rice and West Ham are looking as good as they are under Moyes. He may not be the greatest on the ball but the guy is a colossus defensively and is a true box to box player. He has an unrivaled engine, powerful driving forward, and is a tough no nonsense tackler at the back. Oh and he's a beast aerially - in both boxes. There's a reason why Bayern are sniffing around him. I would certainly take him at United over Matic.

Rice has no business being so lost on the 2nd and 3rd goal. Could use someone like Carrick giving him some personal coaching.

You can see that Zouma is the player Jose bought before that awful injury
So happy for him. Was a horrible injury. The loans at stoke and everton did him good. But hes gone up a level this season hes got a freak of nature alongside him must be said.

Bayern won't sign him, I can promise you that much. Rice has been there best player. Look, he has his uses but he's no player for a big side. Not good enough on the ball. We'll agree to disagree I guess.

Despite being so poor, Werner still has 14 g+a in 21 matches this season (9 in 14 PL matches), that's not a bad record on paper; playing out of position as well. I said at the start of the season he'll consistently get 25-30 g+a a season and I still think he'll get there in the end.

What he is is a confidence player and has gone under similar low periods. Last season he went 1 in 9 matches (all comps), but then went on a streak of 15 goals in his next 9 matches, and then went on another slump of just before covid hit (4 in 11). I think once he gets a goal, he should be back to getting regular goal actions afterwards.

That being said, playing him as a left winger is obviously not getting the best out of him. This was what I said at the start of the season that I don't understand Frank's logic in buying him and Havertz, because that would mean going 4-2-3-1 when Werner is clearly more suited to playing 4-4-2. His main utility in Frank's team is versatility, playing as a LW, RW and CF. With the immense amount of fixtures this season, and Chelsea's attacking injuries early on in the season, Werner filled that quite well by playing in positions vacated by injured players (LW when Pulisic/Ziyech are out).

Reportedly he was in contention to make the bench today. Might feature against Arsenal or if not he should be back by early January.
He's back in training, so either the Arsenal game or the game after vs Villa.
Thanks. He will solve your creative issues and the lad is an amazing goal scorer too. You guys will be fine once he returns.

I think so too; he's easily our most important attacking player already, especially when it comes to unlocking stubborn defenses.

Told the lot on here that he was better than Maguire when we signed Harry and practically got cyber bullied. Wonder if the same opinions are still held.

And both strikers are outperforming their metrics as well so that statement is not true. It's only Werner who is on a bad run at the moment but he is not deployed as a striker. Not that either of these stats tell us a whole lot at this point. The overall teams metrics do however. It is why anyone who is half-paying attention to data would have known that Spurs are nowhere near the top teams even before their last three results.

And last season I think it was pretty clear that apart from some bad luck it was the goalkeeper who was holding them back. Post-shot analysis shows that Kepa cost them 10 goals compared to an average keeper (not even a good one). There is no doubt in my mind that Chelsea are a stronger side than United. Last season and this season even more so.

Neither are going to win the title. Liverpool are strong favourites with the points advantage they have over City. City are a strange one, had them down as favourites before the season but they seem to be playing a lot more conservatively this season.

Is a keeper not part of the team then?
New keeper, Silva in and theyre still behind Utd.
Theres always an excuse for this Chelsea side. They are what they are, a 4th or 5th best side imo.

Don't agree with that at all. You can say Kepa cost Chelsea a few goals, but on that same logic De Gea cost us quite a few goals as well.

Chelsea are too inconsistent at the moment and don't seem to have any attacking edge to them despite having a talent squad. Top 4 is realistic for them at the moment, not saying we'll challenge for the title but I still think we'll end up above Chelsea.

Think it’s too early to write any of them off, but yeah Havertz hasn’t impressed me at all.
Havertz needs to hit the gym room, then get played centrally and he could figure it out. He's got a lot of ability.
