Pure attacking midfielders?

Sneijder is not a pure attacking midfielder. He's used a lot more in central midfield and in the build up for my taste. I agree that he does a lot of good work in the last 3rd but he is not hanging around in that last third for most of the game.

By the way, I have a new player to list as an attacking midfielder - Van der Vaart? Really tricky player to position on the field as he likes to play the part of pretty much everything from midfielder to forward.

I disagree, he played in a midfield role for Madrid but he reached another level playing as an attacking midfielder at Inter. He said he didn't want to play in a deeper midfield role as well. Number 10 is his role.

VDV really is a luxury player and isn't good anywhere but in a free role. Maybe that's what the OP is looking for, I don't know. VDV though isn't good enough to warrant a free role in a top side. I did believe once that he had the potential to, but no.
 
You shouldn't start an OP saying the only AM you can think of is Kagawa, when you only mainly watch United and don't know much of other players. Of course your only answer will be Kagawa, he is our only natural AM in the squad who plays there at a high level. There are loads out there: Mata, Oscar , Cazorla, Silva, Ozil, Kaka, Sneijder, Gotze, Reus, Kroos all the make list of "pure" AMs, but just because they can play well out of positions doesn't mean they are pure, just means they are versatile and competent being played out of position. How you don't think any of these players don't make the list, and have just Kagawa is a bit of favouritism. If you've mainly watched United and got that Kagawa is the only AM you can think of, you obviously haven't taken it from the matches he's played for us, because he has played well less than half his games there, and his best performances have come from the Left wing in my opinion
