And if that means we can’t afford a midfielder?Stop being so stingy and just give them the extra 10m. Arsenal are paying 50m for White and he only plays for Brighton.

We don't have oil fields to fund out transfer. 10m is huge amount and can help us get a new RB or CM. 50m is a decent price for him I believe in current marketStop being so stingy and just give them the extra 10m. Arsenal are paying 50m for White and he only plays for Brighton.
Then we don’t get a midfielder. I think having one of the best CBs in the world is more important than a midfielder. If he stays there for another season he could easily go to another club. This is our best chance. And if that means we can’t afford a midfielder?
You must run a business that has no priorities and unlimited budget/resources.Stop being so stingy and just give them the extra 10m. Arsenal are paying 50m for White and he only plays for Brighton.
That’s my major concern about this. Dragging these negotiations on and on and then don’t have time to purchase a midfielder or two. We’re going to drag this one out it seems and lose an opportunity to add midfield reinforcements.
Like I've said before it's a waiting game now. United are trying to drive the price down. However, if, as appears likely, Raphael Varane arrives from Real Madrid and the Paul Pogba situation can be resolved satisfactorily - if he leaves a top-class midfield signing is essential - then, at the very least, United must compete. They looked like doing that in the Premier League in January, but eventually fell behind Manchester City. Simon Stone
Rightly so. We just have to make sure that Varane is on board with that, understands our reasons, and is happy for us to do it.Like I've said before it's a waiting game now. United are trying to drive the price down.
Is that what the Jamaican Delegation say?Like I've said before it's a waiting game now. United are trying to drive the price down.
This was also on the back of Ducker saying that a deal for him is now our top priorityHowever, if, as appears likely, Raphael Varane arrives from Real Madrid and the Paul Pogba situation can be resolved satisfactorily - if he leaves a top-class midfield signing is essential - then, at the very least, United must compete. Always feel that sends the wrong message to the player, you want them just not at that price. Kinda gives the impression you don't value them that much. It's different if you're Harry Kane and your club is asking for £160m but Varane will know the price being asked doesn't reflect is normal true market valueRightly so. We just have to make sure that Varane is on board with that, understands our reasons, and is happy for us to do it.
The wrong message would be United pays whatever the seller asks for which we seems to be famous for at times.Always feel that sends the wrong message to the player, you want them just not at that price. Kinda gives the impression you don't value them that much. It's different if you're Harry Kane and your club is asking for £160m but Varane will know the price being asked doesn't reflect is normal true market value
A lot of these same posters were telling us to just pay the 100m for Sancho as well. If we did that we wouldn't have had a chance to sign Varane but thank God Ed seems to have taken a negotiation class over the summer. Then we don’t get a midfielder. I think having one of the best CBs in the world is more important than a midfielder. If he stays there for another season he could easily go to another club. This is our best chance.
Players only care about wages. The fact we are paying a bigger amount on wages that Madrid is offering him shows that we value him the most.Always feel that sends the wrong message to the player, you want them just not at that price. Kinda gives the impression you don't value them that much. It's different if you're Harry Kane and your club is asking for £160m but Varane will know the price being asked doesn't reflect is normal true market value
I think this is the most important now when Pogba seems to leave. Could even slow down the interest and money available for Varane. And if that means we can’t afford a midfielder?
The message he cares about is the Kevin de Bruyne salary United will pay him.Always feel that sends the wrong message to the player, you want them just not at that price. Kinda gives the impression you don't value them that much. It's different if you're Harry Kane and your club is asking for £160m but Varane will know the price being asked doesn't reflect is normal true market value

Ah very goodits a footnote in his article about Ole's new contract
I hope that replaces Romano's "Here we go."there it's ....now RM has to play ball & come to negotiations table
Yeah, White is a £50m transfer fee and then anywhere from between £50-120k a week (most likely). Varane is going to be a £50m transfer + £200-300k a week. It’s a big difference.Stop being so stingy and just give them the extra 10m. Arsenal are paying 50m for White and he only plays for Brighton.
well, it's the same , they either negotiate with Varane or with us, either way they must come to the negotiations tableOr they up their renewal offer to meet his demands.
I get what you're saying but that's a risky move. The longer this goes on the more chance for things to go wrong including another team making an offer or Madrid deciding to offer him a bigger contract.United are definitely playing the waiting game, there is no point to give in the Madrid's demands in the current climate. Our strategy with Sancho was great this summer, saving the club 35m on the intial asking price and taking the pressure off Sancho as it's no longer a record fee.
The board have also stepped up their game and seem to be negotiating a lot better than before.
Regarding Varane, good sources have said he wants to leave and has made it know. If it's not completed by the end of the window he can sign a pre-contract in Jan and receive a huge signing on fee + wages, still wins. Madrid are also not in a great financial position, so don't want to risk getting nothing. This transfer will be completed in the last few days of this window.
It's about not being rolled over though too isn't it? You can't be seen to be a push over by other clubs. I don't think we should have the same strategy as we did with Sancho because the fees are quite different but I do think if we've agreed personal terms with the player and he wants to come to United we are already in the box seat and we should certainly push back at Real. That's the key. What Varane wants.I get what you're saying but that's a risky move. The longer this goes on the more chance for things to go wrong including another team making an offer or Madrid deciding to offer him a bigger contract.
Also given the window is open until the end of August he could not only miss the start of the season but if Madrid decide to not give him any game time he wont even be match fit. Get it done ASAP and let him start settling in in my opinion.
The media tend to over report what we pay in wages while under reporting what other clubs in wages because of their hatred of us, mate. I do take your point though and imagine Varane will be paid more than White. Will probably be something more like 150k vs 200k though.Yeah, White is a £50m transfer fee and then anywhere from between £50-120k a week (most likely). Varane is going to be a £50m transfer + £200-300k a week. It’s a big difference.
