Gaming Resident Evil 4 Remake (PS5, Series S/X, PC)

Mercenaries mode is worth playing to unlock a few nice extras for the main game.

The hand cannon if you get S rank on the 3 stages. Also you can unlock Hunk by doing Leon A Rank -> Luis A Rank -> Krauser A Rank

Think I’m nearing the end. The infamous regenerators aren’t really scary and are actually just a bollocks enemy.

All done. I just bought the rocket launcher for the last boss, really couldn’t be arsed with the bosses by that point, they are horrible. They game is too clunky for boss fights.

I completed it last night. An excellent game but I wasn’t a fan of the Salazar fight. Hopefully it won’t be too long until the Ada DLC.

Mercenaries is great fun too. Hopefully they’ll add Ada and Wesker to it.

I'm gonna try for the platinum. Currently making my way through the game just using the pistol and Knife, while not using any recovery items. Also collecting all the treasures. See how it goes. May not have the patience to play through the game another 4-5 times.

That's a tricky one combined, even on assisted< I had to give up and just do the knife and pistol run and try the no healing trophy another time.

I'm trying to do a new game with an S+ and i think it's doable. On chapter 10 with 1 hour and 30 minutes to go. Plan on cheesing Salazar and the final boss with a rocket launcher.

It is. I've been hit a few times so now I'm constantly one or two hits away from danger, which is a pain in the arse. I'm on Chapter 8, so I'm just gonna persevere with it.

S+ rank on professional is going to be a nightmare.

I could be wrong but I don't think you have to do that anymore. I got an S rank on professional just by nuking everyone with an infinite rocket launcher and I don't think the game requires a s+ in professional for the platinum. It does require it for hardcore mode though.

The hand cannon is now available through the mercenaries so that's another thing made easier.

Well, that's a relief! I just assumed.

You just have to get an A rank then I think, in order to unlock the Chicago Sweeper. Think it's only Hardcore and Standard you need S+ rank for.

They're more famous for being annoying than scary.

Just finished the campaign. Deserves all its rave reviews and one of the best games in its genre. The things I liked were the village and castle which were well designed, very atmospheric and creepy. The combat when you got the hang of it felt great. I loved some of the puzzles, most of them were simple but clever. I think it was the right length of time too as it didn’t out stay it’s welcome. I think the difficulty was right in the sense that the ‘normal’ setting was challenging but if you got fed up of it then the assisted difficulty is rather easy in comparison which is great if you just want to experience the game.

The things I didn’t like so much were the respawning enemies at the start of the game, I think it was the fish farm, really made the level frustrating. I wished there were more puzzles to solve, I loved the dinner table puzzle in the castle, it might have been easy but it was smart and it would have been great to see more of that kind of inspiration in the game. Finally, I didn’t really feel the island location, it felt like a different game at that point and was a bit off on a tangent compared to the village and castle locations which really got it right.

But definitely a must purchase for anyone thinking of getting this.

The 'Mike' section absolutely sucks and represents where the series started to go off the rails for me. One of the worst parts of any RE game and is infuriating on speed runs.

I would say it was more COD with zombies as opposed to Resident Evil at that point. Not to say it didn’t have it’s good moments but overall it was disappointing compared to the first 2 parts.

Resident Evil has a habit of the end sections being far less enjoyable imo. It loses the survival horror aspect a little, especially when they always push the ‘it was the mad scientists all along’ aspect of the story.

I definitely didn’t get respawning enemies at the Fish Farm though. I went back there for blue medallions after and it was still clear.

Maybe it wasn’t the fish farm. You need to go to the area to get an item that lets you open a gate. You can ping a few enemies with the rifle but you drop down and then run across the ramparts to a hut at the back, climb the ladder and take the item. For me, it didn’t matter how many villagers I killed, they wouldn’t stop coming for me, I must have killed about 30 of them before I could escape the area.

I used to think on few sections there were infinite respawns, but that's not the case, there is always limited number of enemies, some sections has tons of them, but always limited, as far as I tested.

Yeah there is a cap, no infinitely spawning enemies. I made sure to kill every enemy in the game with the infinite rocket launcher and everywhere has a cap.

Fair enough. I think this section just had wayyyy too many enemies that it felt like they wouldn’t stop coming.

Got the plat :D . Not as hideous as it looks to 100% but time consuming and still quite challenging. The trick is to take advantage of the bonus weapons and know when to run/shortcuts.

Very good game and my GOTY so far. I'd still say Remakes of 1 and 2 and also CV (yeah i know) are probably my favourite RE titles but 4 is really good game. Not sure I want to play a remake of 5.

Finished over the weekend. The platinum looks like too much hard work for me. Don't think I enjoyed it quite enough to play through 2/3 more times and certainly not so soon after.

Mercenaries is still an absolute blast though. Wish there were more levels. Krauser and especially Hunk are so fun to play as.

S+ on Pro mode looks a massive fecking pain on console without the skips

Finished it. Brilliant remake. Will go back to it down the road. On to Horizon: Forbidden West now.

Ada is a ride.

Got the platinum. Didn't think I would bother, but it was one of those where I already had so many trophies that I might as well go for it. Adding mercenaries to the game so you could get the hand cannon that way was a godsend.

The shooting range was a real pain in the arse on console. I think it would be fairly trivial on PC, but on the PS5 some of those were really difficult.

Great game though. One of the best remakes I've played.

Got a lend of it and I'm on chapter 7 now and really enjoying it.

I would say, much like with the 2 remake, due to the clunky controls and gunplay - the boss fights can be a real pain in the arse.

Boss fights are not RE at their best. Never has been, IMO. The gameplay doesn't lend itself to good boss fights in general.

Finished it. Probably my favourite game on the ps5 so far, granted I don’t play too many games. But for context the last game (non fifa) I bought was horizons west and as great as that is when I finished it I couldn’t be bothered to replay or explore more.

Yet Res4 RM I’m doing a replay on hard core. Despite its flaws and most boss fights being disappointing it has something about it.

Also Mercenaries so simple and basic yet so addictive.

I never get bored of Hunk’s melee

That bit in the castle where they drop the walkway with you on it and loads of them are firing on you and coming at you while Ashley is being dragged away was such a cnut. It’s such a little bitch of a game at times but yet so exhilarating.

There’s a tactic that stops the walkway getting pulled down.

Throw a grenade at the lever just before triggering the cutscene. It kills the lever operator and is a legit skip.

This game has nearly broken me so many time. So many asshole moments

I had to take a break for 3 days before coming back to that bit in chapter 4 at the waste depot where guys are trying to take Ashley away while a fecking regenerator is in your face. Ffs.

Chapter 14? I think I know the part you are on about though regardless, you can just run past that regenerator and back over the bridge before they manage to carry Ashley off.

Completed on Professional now in 5 hrs 9 mins. Now have the Chicago Sweeper and Handcannon not sure if I will try an S+ run next.

Just finished it on standard, took around 20h as I was just trying to enjoy every moment as much as possible and took my time.
Great boss fights, very good pace with a lot of shooting in comparison to the previous RE remakes.
Overall the best game I've played this year.

I’m on chapter 15 now so nearly done. Agree it’s great but the boss fights are awful, especially that second Krauger one. The movement is way too clunky for them.

I took a similar time. Wanted to get everything in and done first playthrough.

Did you get all the bobble heads?

It’s a great game for replay value too.

If you mean the second Krauser fight with more parts I've quite enjoyed it, it was something different. What I found a little annoying was the first fight with knives only .

Some bosses were difficult, I've died a couple of times to each of them so I guess I liked the fact that they were a challenge.

Only boss that I've killed first try, was surprisingly the last one.

No, because at first I did not know I had to shoot them and they are not mapped like the blue medallions, so I've missed some of them.

Worth doing them on a 2nd run through for a bonus that is really handy for future play throughs.
