Legend of the game, RIP. So many players who make most GOAT lists passed away in the last 10 years.

A tough few days for World Cup greats with Zagallo also dying. RIP.

Still the definition of an elegant defender after all these years. There may never be a better one.

I think he has been quite ill for a while. May he rest in peace.

RIP. One of my favourite football legend, and the greatest ever defender in football.

Ah what a shame. He was a legend but also a nice and down to earth man. I met him once in Amsterdam, such a charming man. All the greats from the 70’s seem to go now.

Damn. What a player (and manager) he was. RIP :(

Charlton and Beckenbauer just a few months apart. Titans of the 60s and 70s.

Best German player in modern history, IMO. German national team during his time was virtually unbeatable. RIP

Legend of the game.
Dragan Dzajic is my family. Halways had respect for Becks.

My dad, who was born in the 30s, always said he was the best footballer he ever saw, the most complete and most impactful player. He saw them all, and wasn't exactly fond of Germans, but he always maintained that Beckenbauer was the best.

RIP

Incredibly sad news, and as some of you have already mentioned, we’ve lost the biggest footballing legends of the last century in a relatively short period of time.

Godspeed with you Franz and thank you for all the great memories. RIP

I don't know if people outside Germany understand the way the world cup 2006 is viewed here. Beckenbauer (I know about how) got it for us. People from my generation especially often consider the time around this world cup as the happiest they have ever seen the whole country. That alone has done so much for his legend.

Goodbye Kaiser Franz. Legend is a way overused term, but in his case it is absolutely a deserved one.

So many pre mid 90's giants have left us in the last 10 years. Di Stefano, Cruyff, Maradona, Müller, Pele, Charlton and now Beckenbauer :(

It's interesting to look at Beckenbauer's sofascore numbers and compare them to modern players. One of the greatest.

Rest In Peace, Kaiser. Franz Beckenbauer, a true legend. World Cup winner as a player, World Cup winner as a coach. Incredible footballer. Potentially top 3 all time.

A legend of the game and also a great singer

RIP to one who's probably in top 10 of all time best players.
