I've never seen a player who gets so involved so much yet can do so many things wrong. Seemed like for everytime he did well, the next two times he got the ball, he fecked things up.

No chance. An average footballer who plays like nothing really matters. He doesn't have any ambition, and lowers standards at the club.... he's not a winner.

Rubbish. Get him out the club

He is an engine in midfield and nothing more. Poor technical ability and low IQ player.

Will be moved on at the earliest opportunity if we had any sense.

Without doubt the most clueless, low footballing IQ rated player to pull on the shirt. Add this to atrocious quality and you have Fred

I don't think he should get a new contract. A shame cos my Grandad was called Fred.

He was truly awful tonight.
One of the worst performances I've ever seen from an established player

He works hard but he is just awful on the ball. Too erratic. If you are starting him in midfield you need a Casemiro type midfielder. I felt bad for Sabitzer. Playing in a 2 man midfield with a crazy maniac like Fred.

How has anyone not had enough of the Fred experience. I'm tired of seeing sloppy right footed passes, getting caught on the ball in our half, stupid first time shots and failled chipped through balls.

He's been a disaster for me. An average Fred game is a bad performance, he's only worth anything when he plays well and that doesn't happen nearly enough to justify another game beyond this season.

For who?
That's the biggest issue we face.
Surely there is a workaround.

Either put Martinez in DM, where he played earlier in his career, next to Sabitzer.

Or put Sancho as the number 10 and drop Bruno Fernandes into the number 8 position

I am ready to sell my soul to Qatar if that’s what it takes to never see this guy put on a United shirt again

He's been bad for sure. I think it's only by virtue of there being many other terrible players at United over the years that Fred has never really been seen as a priority to replace, as there's always a more pressing concern in the team. Even now everyone is fixated on buying a striker to solve all our problems

The good, the bad and the ugly. Fred's career summed up at United. Not the first time we have seen Fred to Fred things. Misplace 5 yard pass, shoot as if he's wearing a blindfold. Not knowing how much power or foot to use, he cost us tonight. Nearly cost us a third goal with that free kick.

Absolutely not. A shambles of a player. I know he’s had an odd good game here and there but he needs to go. Shaktar must have pisses themselves when we signed him.

He has his uses, as the 3rd man in a midfield 3 against big teams or as an impact sub. So I understand why the club took up the option on his contact.

Having said that he shouldn't ever start in a midfield 2 again if we can avoid it, he just doesn't have the technical ability or the footballing brain for it. He's not a defensive midfielder, he's not a playmaker and he's not an attacking midfielder. He needs 1 or preferably 2 competent midfielders beside him to make up for his limitations and allow him to play to his strengths.

After next season he really should be moved on. But more importantly Manchester United should move on from players like Fred.

He’s not a CDM that’s for sure but then I don’t know what he actually is.

Not good enough on the ball to be a CAM but he’s best in that position running on vibes and keeps him away from our own net as a bonus

He should go, but it's not really his fault, just a question of balance, as shown by Lindelof coming on. We need another DM. Fred got bypassed easily on the first Leeds goal, and that's what having a DM is for.

Sabitzer has to stay. He's a quality player with 2-3 years left, so not much resale value, but it seems like Bayern would take 20-25M for him.

So, now we look like this:

-----------------------------------------------#9(Rashford, Weghorst/Martial)
Rashford(Garnacho, Sancho)-------------------------------------------------Antony(Amad/Pellistri)
----------------------------------------------------Bruno(Eriksen, Sancho)-----------------------------
---------------------------Eriksen(Sabitzer)--------------Casemiro(DM)-------------------------------

Sell Fred to Serie A for 15M, McTominay to a Prem team for 25M and you've got Sabitzer's fee covered and 15M of the fee for a DM, which is probably about half of what you need for one we like.

No idea who that would be, but there are DMs who can play a bit around, teams like Palace (Doucoure), Fulham (Pahlhina) and Villa (Kamara) just got theirs in for 30M or less this past summer. We can't offer as much playing time, but at least the same in wages (higher than what Doucoure got surely but Fulham and Villa probably paid decent amounts to get those guys) and it's United and Casemiro is old enough that a player might fancy his long-term future here.

He is only good as sub so don’t mind if he leaves but can see why Ten Hag would keep him because he is really good off the bench.

At the same time I wouldn’t mind selling Mctominay, Fred, VDB , not buying Sabitzer and then buying Rice as our 2nd CDM to partner Casemiro when needed and to take over him as he learns the game from him.

Has he let his standards drop this far under ten hag so far this season ? This has to be the end of Fred. Useful on his day, suicidal on off days
He was absolute dogshit at the start of the season. His excusers on here will try and pretend the first 5 games never happened though.

Absolutely not. The problem with some footballing experts on here who claim that he is good enough or useful, is that they think a team that should be competing for the highest places can carry a midfielder such as Fred in midfield. That we can try and play attractive football with a midfielder as limited as he is. No we can't. Let him go, he is not good enough.

5 games...

Try about 5 years of people pretending he's not shit.

Let that sink in. 5 years of this clown and people still try and defend him.

He should have been binned off after 1.

In the eyes of some, he is still better than prime Kante, in the 1 out 10 solid games where he looks like a pro footballer though.

It depends on the contract and Fred's expectations of playing time, we need squad depth, even if it is playing the last 20 minutes every match

Signing Fred to a new contract, if the wage is appropriate is cheaper than buying a squad player, that could mean £20-30m? which can be utilised elsewhere, also if keeping Fred at the club keeps Casemiro sweet then give him a contract all day long.

I am 50/50 it would depend on what the options are if we do not, I would certainly like to see Amad and Hannibal given a chance next season as part of the squad

The puzzling thing is Fred is a regular in the Brazil national team With Casamiro along side him.
until last night Freds form has been much better of late.. He has been more than useful coming on to stiffen up the midfield when Erikson was blowing. Hes even weighed in with a few goals.
last night he seemed to revert to his old self. His bottle went as it was clear we were over run in midfield., panicking on the ball, zero composure Which leads to all his old mistakes. Hes ok in a back up midfielder role. As a starter without a strong CDM alongside him then no.

I've seen Fred be shit but last night tops it. I'll keep Sabitzer if he turns out decent. Get rid of Fred and Mctominay and get another quality midfielder in!

Based on which game? All responses since yesterday are picking at what is his worst match in a Manchester United shirt. The answer then must obviously be no.

Based on the last period of games in tandem with Casemiro? Yes.

The club will decide which weighs the heaviest.

I love Fred in the same way I love Mata. Lovely guys but this is a football club and that isn't enough.

He has a lot of good will from being one of the few players to come out of last season with a shred of dignity but he simply isn't good enough. Being played out of position doesn't excuse awful passing or the plethora of other issues he routinely exhibits.

Need to get rid of Fred and McTominay and bring in a couple of quality midfield options.
