Should we change captaincy as well?

Ronaldo is the only candidate.
Definitely. Maguire should have passed it on when Ronaldo arrived.

We have players with multiple champions league and world cups to their name being lead by Maguire. It’s obviously a bit silly

Ronaldo should really be as our captain. If he doesn’t want it, then just give it to Bruno.

He represents the type of player that separates us from the best teams. I understood at the time why he was made captain, but now the team is not deficient in leaders and his performances warrant a period on the bench.

Pretty sure we did this in Fergie's later years. Rio/Vidic/Evra/VDS/Giggs pretty much all shared it no?

Feck me, just reminded me of how that team was filled to the brim with leaders :(
Vidić was still the captain, he just missed many games due to injuries. We were lucky to have so many outstanding characters in the dressing room though :(

I've been saying this. There's every chance Ole looked at him and think he fits a certain typical captain template. English, plays in a central position, ugly and big.

3 years later, we've finally realised he's an error prone sensitive type who can't handle criticism and pressure very well.
I'll be honest. I didn't really watch much of Maguire at Leicester. That WC where he scored those headers for England, the way he looks, I thought we were getting a John Terry/Vidic warrior type of CB.

I think with a new permanent manager a change of captain would be fine and allow Maguire to save face a little.

I can't think of a good reason not to give it to Bruno to be honest.

New manager, new captain, pretty much standard fair isn't it unless the captain was performing spectacularly well or is the biggest name in the dressing room at the time, neither of which Maguire is - Give it to Ronaldo or Varane i'd say, true Varane hasn't been there long but he's a no nonsense winner

It's sad Ronny will never get to captain a club side in his career.. either this season or next season he's only here for a short time so why not make him captain he's better at it than Maguire leads by example and Maguire needs to focus on his own game and give it up... When Maguire was sent off who took the armband? Not Ronny but Fernandes.. he's way down the pecking order despite playing for the club the longest (2 spells combined).. so won't even get it for odd games as Maguire and Fernandes play every-minute of every-game and never injured or rested together

Will a new manager send a statement and make Ronaldo his captain? The best and most senior player at the club which is what the captain normally is? He should.. to motivate him more than anything after the last few weeks must've been quite a shock to him..

Commercially would make the club more money and sell more Ronaldo shirts too.. it's win-win!

even bloody Nani is captain of his club side in MLS.. Ronaldo is the only winner at the club.

I'm sure Ronny would relish the opportunity and responsibility.. after winning everything in his career it must be hard to stay hungry.. so giving him the captains armband might get another 10-15% out of him as it's something new that he hasn't done before (for a club side)

I'm sure it would be a masterstroke by any manager to make Ronaldo the captain in terms of motivating him and thus making the team stronger.. whether it's at United or somewhere else (if he doesn't retire after United).

I think people don't understand or appreciate how hard it is to keep a GOAT like Ronaldo motivated who has won everything in the game.. and the disappointment and realisation he will have had of the last few weeks of basically fighting for 4th with the season over in November it will de-motivate anyone especially someone like Ronaldo who has won everything in football already it must be quite a culture shock as that's all new to him as he's won a trophy basically every season of his career.. that's what a good manager does though keeps his best players motivated.

Yes Jan or end of season I would put him up for sale. Hope Newcastle would be silly to give us half his transfer fee back, as £40 mill will be tops we can get for him I think
I agree, wishful thinking though as we all know he's going nowhere. I fear he's going to become the new Phil Jones over time. We can only hope and pray he sorts his silly mistakes out and Varane gives him a kick up the arse and they actually work as a partnership. I have my doubts.

Ole probably watched Maguire mostly at the World Cup just like you. Otherwise at that point he was still in Norway, why would he watch Leicester? It's not like Molde planned to sign any player from there. If you think Maguire looked like Terry/Vidic at the World Cup, I'm not surprised why Ole was so eager to give that captain armband to him.

Would be throwing Maguire under the bus to strip the captaincy from him. Nowhere for a player to recover from that
Happened to De Gea as well. Its not a big deal, unless he is a manchild.

Give it to Bruno. He's a leader. Let him take all the setpieces as well.

Ronaldo on penalties.

One thing I would argue is that Carrick and a potential caretake should not name a new captain. Our next permanent manager should make his own choice so there is no need to make a change right now.
