Just does not get old
I think he will go after next season.I think this is his final season
Surely the Premier League trophy would be the natural fit - I'm sure there are one or two photos of him with it knocking about somewhereEhhh..Wish it was him holding the European cup.
Me neither - seems rather clichéd.I don't think I have ever seen Fergie have a ball under his arm...
That is always brilliant
Agreed, that side looks rather like an afterthought compared to the the East stand in particular. With Sir Alex out there, I'm sure more will be done to develop that area in time.Hope they redecorate the exterior of the North Stand as well. Looks terribly outdated in comparison to the East and West Stands
Manchester United will unveil a statue of Sir Alex Ferguson outside Old Trafford on 23 November, ahead of the league meeting with Queens Park Rangers, who were the Scot's first home opposition of his 26-year tenure.
A statement from United said: "As Sir Alex Ferguson celebrates 26 years in charge of Manchester United, the club can announce that the statue of Britain's most successful manager will be unveiled at Old Trafford on Friday, 23 November, at 2pm.
"The unveiling will take place the day before United's match with Queen's Park Rangers, the opponents of Sir Alex's first home match in charge at Old Trafford on 22nd November 1986. Key figures from the manager's time at United will be in attendance to share the occasion. The statue was commissioned to mark the manager's quarter of a century in charge of Manchester United.
"The statue, by renowned sculptor Philip Jackson, will be positioned in a prominent position near the entrance to the Sir Alex Ferguson Stand, renamed in his honour last year. The club will also be unveiling new artwork and installations in the Sir Alex Ferguson Stand concourses which illustrate the manager's achievements throughout his United career."
Ferguson's haul of major trophies for United stands at two European Cups, 12 Premier League titles, five FA Cups, four League Cups, the Cup-Winners' Cup and one Super Cup, Intercontinental Cup and Club World Cup. He was also voted the League Managers Association manager of the decade for the 1990s, has won three LMA manager of the year awards and the Uefa manager of the year for 1998-9, and on 10 occasions he has been voted the Premier League manager of the season.
Sounds awesome! It would be nice if we could see statues of "Ferguson's Fledglings" in the near future and place it opposite SAF's. Like how we did it with "the Holy Trinity" and Sir Matt Busby's.http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2012/nov/06/manchester-united-sir-alex-ferguson-statue?CMP=twt_gu
Bolded bit is good, the SAF stand is probably the most outdated part of Old Trafford
I don't get it.Just does not get old
Yeah I don't get it, some of his statues are cringe worthy and this is something that's going to be outside the ground for decades. It's done by the same useless cnut who did Best/Law/Charlton and Adams/Henry/Chapman (not Lee). There are plenty of very good sculptors around who could have done a much better job, I really don't know why he's commissioned.
Not really, why do we only have to do these things once somebodies dead? Other clubs make statues for people who've helped them to one thing. The man is a living legend. Lets celebrate him and let him know we appreciate everything he's done for us.Isn't it a bit premature? I mean he is all alive and kicking
Why? I don't understand how it's weird. Bobby is there all the time as well and Law is always about.I am sure there is no shortage of people telling him how much he is appreciated. They already have a stand named after him and he is well celebrated.
I don't have any problems with the statue, the timing of unveiling just feels a bit weird. I mean the man is there in person everyday.
Not arguing, I just don't get the point why someone has to be dead before they can have a statue.I don't want an argument but I don't get the point of it when someone is still alive and with the club.
So does this mean it may well be his last season?
Only Sir Alex knowsSo does this mean it may well be his last season?
As in things being revealed about the person after they've died that casts them in a bad light? Sod it if that were the case the statues give people a great place to vent their fury at.Have always seen statues as a sign of respect for great men or women, who have made a significant contribution to society or in their chosen field. Have seen them as a symbols to make aware and inspire the younger generations. Give them some perspective about the honoree’s accomplishments.
May be it is a cultural thing as the ones I have seen in India are mostly posthumous.
(Also, I want to mention a certain recent incident but there are chances that the uninitiated and the overly emotional will take it the wrong way and turn it into something else. So, I will refrain)
I've actually never seen that. It's fantastic!why?
been there, done that.
lolgreat to see the finest finisher i've ever seen at the club back at united
i believe the statue will have saf mounted upon a horse, and that ruud is going to be the horses' heeeeed
What's wrong with the Best/Law/Charlton statues? It's done by the same useless cnut who did Best/Law/Charlton and Adams/Henry/Chapman (not Lee). There are plenty of very good sculptors around who could have done a much better job, I really don't know why he's commissioned.
They're hardly creative works of art. Most of these statues are standard fare. What's wrong with the Best/Law/Charlton statues?
