Few days ago i participated in a football quiz and there was a question "Who invented Elastico?" so i thought it would be fun to find other "inventors" like the legendary Rivelino as most of us like to see a good skill in a game.

There are 3 skills that really interest me but feel free to add yours on the list....

1. "Iniesta's" La Croqueta, he took it from Laudrup but is Laudrup the first one that did it?


2. I give it to Taddei as he did the best version of it but lets mention Wilhelmson also so we bring some joy to @The Stain


3. Zidane roulette

The folha seca (dry leaf) technique, mainly used for free kicks: Most commonly the great Didi is considered its inventor, but I'm sure that's in dispute too. There have been many brilliant players over the years to use this piece of trickery, in recent times Cristiano Ronaldo would be the most obvious example.



A highly disputed one is obviously the bicycle kick - whereas the Matthews faint has to be credited to Stan the Man (even though it's more than possible that he didn't actually invent it - as such). Same for the Cruyff faint, I suppose - I don't recall the details there, but I'm pretty sure Cruyff wasn't actually the first to use it.

Indeed. We used to call it the Maradona turn having a kickabout when I was a lad - and that was when Zidane wasn't much older than yours truly.

So was Laudrup.

Ronaldinho is the only one I recall seeing doing a double elastico.
 
According to Wiki, this is the history of the rabona:

The first reported rabona was performed by Ricardo Infante in a game between Argentinian teams Estudiantes de la Plata and Rosario Central in 1948.[1] The football magazine El Gráfico then set up a front cover showing Infante (in Spanish "infant") dressed as a pupil with the caption "Infante played hooky" ('rabona' in Spanish means to play hooky or to skip school). Since then the play has been called a rabona.

This is the greatest rabona ever...

 
I believe Sergio Ramos perfected the 'drop trophy under moving bus' trick though I could be wrong.
 
Did Cruyff actually invent the Cruyff turn? It seems like one of those things that's falsely attributed to him.
 
on a serious note, i think Ribery did the "McGeady spin" before McGeady but im not sure.....

As a Dutchie i'd like to say yes, but apparently there was a player called Adrian Alston who performed the same trick 5 days prior to Cruyf against East Germany in 1974. Cruyf did it on 19 June against Sweden. Could be wrong tho.

 
The rabona is old as the hills, I've been able to do it for over 50 years (still can) and I'm certain I didn't invent it, my Dad showed me.
 
I dont know who created the step over but we all know Phil Neville perfected it

I'm almost sure that I saw it in an old video. A man was playing around with a ball and did a rabona for the sake of it.

Poor Alston, getting sod all credit then up pops the most famous player in the game to take all the glory. It's quite a basic thing that it's hard to imagine any one of the numerous wing wizards that were ten-a-penny before 1970 not doing it at some stage.
 
How about this throw-in?



A buddy of mine in high school took his throw ins this way. The power he got on his throws was incredible. As crazy as it sounds, I'm sure he got more power and distance on his throws than Delap on his.
 
What about Poborsky's scoop against Portugal at Euro '96? The lift over the keeper is quite a common finish, usually when they're on the ground or thereabouts, but almost never with that kind of air though. Had anyone done it so eye-catchingly before?



Thinking about it, Michael Laudrup quite often scooped it over the defensive line for a striker to meet. Still, not quite the same.
