TEAMtalk | Football | Latest Football News, Results and Fixtures - Fletcher lined up for Wolves switch

Burnley striker Steven Fletcher is reportedly set to move to Wolves for £7.5million, with two Molineux stars heading the other way on loan.
Fletcher joined the Clarets last summer from Hibernian for £3million but following his side's relegation to the Championship last season could now be on his way out of Turf Moor.

The 23-year-old Scotland international put in a number of admirable performances for Burnley last term, despite Brian Laws' men going on a terrible run which saw them drop out of the top-flight at the first time of asking.

Wolves, on the other hand, found some good form this year and steered clear of the Premier League's relegation zone, finishing the campaign 15th in the table.

Manager Mick McCarthy has signalled his intention to strengthen his squad during the off-season, and Fletcher is understood to be high on his list of priorities.

Wolves only managed 32 league goals last term - the fewest of any team in the division - and Fletcher could provide the necessary quality to pose more of a threat in the final third.

In a struggling Burnley side he managed eight goals in 35 league starts, and is now set for a big-money move to Molineux.

And it appears Wolves duo Wayne Hennessey and Chris Iwelumo are set to go the other way and join the Clarets on loan.

Goalkeeper Hennessey did make 13 Premier League starts last season but is not Wolves' No.1 stopper, while striker Iwelumo did not find the net once in 17 appearances.

i think they would do better to get Welbeck on loan if we are willing

He deserves to play in the Premier League, did a great job for Burnley.

For a Scotsman he's quite a cultured player. Showed he was good enough for the Premiership last year so a decent signing. Not a great goalscorer, but good enough with his back to goal to bring others into play.

8 goals is not bad.

What is the going rate for strikers these days?

So many strikers!

Kevin Doyle
Sylvain Ebanks Blake
Andrew Keogh
Stefan Maerhoffer
Sam Vokes
Chris Iwelumo (out on loan for a season)

and now Fletcher

Only Doyle is really any use though.

You forgot Stephen Ward. He can play as a striker, and he also just signed a new contract.

£7.5m is a bit too much. I can only imagine him paying that kind of money if it is a replacement for Doyle.

Wolves show ambitions, it will surely be even harder next season to stay up as both Newcastle and West Brom looks strong coming up. But the signing first of Van Damme and now Fletcher is a good start to avoid relegation.

Time for Wigan to act a bit now as well, they look like a strong relegation candidate at the moment.

I think that Wolves could still really do with a centre back and a right winger considering that Michael Kightly was out injured for all of last season and apparently has the same tendonitis problem with his knees that Hargreaves has.

I'm not sure why people are so confused. He did quite well for Burley last year.

He's young and did very well in a struggling side. Had a impressive goal return considering it was his first season at a new club (a struggling club) in a new league and not only the goals. He provided some gems too.

If he can produce for Wolves he'll be well worth the money.

Bump.

Sunderland have made a £10 million bid. I like him but that is steep for a championship player.

He's a decent player and probably about as good as they can expect to get, tbh. They need someone who will score goals reasonably consistently.

Considering Wolves paid £8m for him two years ago and he was reasonably successful for them, it's a decent price. You can hardly get a decent striker for less than that these days.

I think that Sunderland could afford to play hardball, especially if Fletcher wanted out, which he probably would/will have.

Terrible idea to pay £10 mil for a player of that calibre.

It's not a bad price at all for a striker who consistently hits 10-15 goals per year.

He does guarantee goals.
Thats the price you have to pay nowadays.
With even the bottom clubs getting 50m from TV deals, the price of these players was always going to increase a bit.
