Sir Alex Ferguson is monitoring the progress of Sunderland midfielder Lee Cattermole and is rumoured to be considering a move for the 22 year old defensive midfielder as he looks to bring in more young talent into his Old Trafford squad. The Manchester United boss is known to be an admirer of the former Wigan and Middlesbrough man and is looking to capture the battler either before this transfer window shuts or in January, depending on the long term injury concerns over Owen Hargreaves.
The Stockton-on-Tees born midfielder arrived at the Stadium of Light last summer for £6m and has quickly established himself as a key part of Steve Bruce’s first team plans and the former United defender will fight to keep hold of the youngster.
Cattermole has put in some fine performances for the Black Cats and is now said to be close to a full England cap after 16 appearances at Under 21 level. Valued at around £12m, a move for his services would be yet more evidence of Sir Alex looking to bring in hot prospects rather than spending big on established stars.
