"I came here watching psg vs lyon and dani alves red card, boy seems creative"

So it looks like the footballing gods have blessed France with yet another potentially elite prospect, and while he's been making plenty of waves in Ligue 1, he seemingly hasn't done enough to deserve his own thread on the Caf, whose otherwise cultured and discerning members can sometimes be tardy when it comes to boarding hype trains (hence the demonym caftard*).

This particular hype train seems to be building up a head of steam pretty quick, can navigate those tight turns with ease, and has enough horsepower to give other, similarly powerful engines the freedom to play on the left in a midfield three. Or maybe not. Anyway, it's called a Tanguy NDombèlé, and his video is here:

*If you were offended by my use of the term caftard, please accept my apologies as it was not my intention to shame tardy persons. In point of fact I happen to know a great many people that are routinely tardy in real life, so much so that it has come to be accepted as a term of endearment in my country.

Hopefully he stays at Lyon for another season. A whole host of clubs will be after him though if he keeps his form up, he's a fun player to watch.

I actually saw him in that PSG game and he looked fantastic. Can't beat a marauding box-to-box player.

That makes more sense.

Also why you don't want him to move to a big club :p

I just think with young talents with little experience they shouldn't be moving until they've got a few season under their belt. Lyon are a good club too, no point going elsewhere and being sat on the bench for a while.

One of those players who never look like they are in full control of the ball, even if that's probably an illusion.

It works both ways but generally I do agree with you, playing a few seasons at a relatively smaller club does a lot of good to younger players but it can be detrimental if they aren't developing the skills needed for a big club.

He was great against PSG in particular and looks very promising, still raw though and would probably be best off staying at Lyon for another season or two.

Ah well, at least it's not yet another Dembele to get confused with. Close mind you.

One of two midfielders I hope we sign. He'd be a lot cheaper than Milinkovic-Savic as well.

Why can't we just sign him now for a fraction of what he might cost? For example, Dembele was just a steal for Dortmund.

Chelsea loan type system wouldn't go astray around here.

He was so good the first time I watched him, that I googled him and was amazed he was just 20. From what I've seen so far he's a nailed on CM star for the future.

Who is the other?

I personally think we need one of those low centre of gravity playmaking CMs.

He looks a quality dribbler. How's his passing?

I watch as much of Lyon as I can because I want us to sign Fekir. This guy is the type you want to take a punt on and take it as a calculated gamble that if it pays off, you've got yourself a gem, and if it doesn't, you'll at least make back the majority of your money.

Hard to place him in a huge team until he proves his positional worth over more than a season because obviously, all those twists, turns and risks he takes look excellent, but unless he proves he has that (Spurs) Dembele trait of keeping the ball under most circumstances against most opponents, or, really comes to the fore in the remainder of Lyon's Europa League run, or even France at the WC (should he make the squad) the fast-track isn't really an option in terms of just dropping him into league-challenging major sides as he is now. (talk about a run-on sentence! :nervous:)

Of course, the type of talent he has, if it's backed up with solid positional sense and performance, his value can absolutely sky-rocket, so you want to be in at the initial phase, not questioning and rueing why the hell you've waited until he's a £60m+ player when he could've been had for a third of that.

Buy and loan out, at worst, keep and train in close quarters at best, but buy, ultimately!

Both he and Barella look like they'll be great in the future. I agree with those saying the club should consider buying, then loaning back (for at least a season) these kind of talents as opposed to waiting for their price to skyrocket before inquiring. If Lyon have an option to buy, we'll likely have to wait until the season after next if we're interested. His value may go up a lot in that time though.

Ndombele is the new Dembele?
History has shown us that footballers with the surname Dembele tend to be outstanding at football. NDombele is pretty close, worth signing him up in FM for that reason alone.

I can imagiine if him and Paul Pogba were in the same team, they'd both end up trying to out Paul Pogba each other, to the point there'd have to be twice as many opposition players allowed on the pitch just to make sure both of them have enough to pointlessly try and take the ball around.

 I can't recall you ever disliking a player as much as Pogba.

I would argue that a midfield partnership designed to create spaces and draw defenders can only be mutually beneficial for the pair.

Very similar stats. Although my point is that on the face of it, or a good diatance from rhe face given I've just watched a short YouTube video, he appears similar to Pogba who in turn lacks that metronomic game-controlling ability.

I can imagine one beating two players to pass it to the other, who then beats the same two players slightly more extravagantly, before passing it back again, until one of them loses the ball and they both stand there waiting for a team mate to get it back.

I don't dislike him. He just needs to grow up. He was ok against Chelsea.

Not sure how the idea that Pogba needs other players who do the work for him, tallies up with the idea of one of those players being another Pogba though. Then we'd need to play a six man midfield with both of them on the left of a three each, or something.

He is promising but not a permanent fixture for Lyon yet, give him time to develop. He looks like he has the right profile for EPL though.
