He's done it. And what a performance, truly vintage Federer. Magical shots left and right. Who knows how often we will witness a Federer like this again.

With some points I agree, with some I don't, but that's exactly what crossed my mind when I heard he was forfeiting the match and listened to him while he was apologising (bolded sentence).

It will be interesting to see if he plays in the Davis Cup this week.
That is absolute garbage. This is a man who has never retired during a match, and had a chance to make a real season-ending statement against a formidable opponent against whom he's had good results. Nadal and Djokovic have pulled out numerous times over injuries, and this is what, Federer's 3rd time missing a match? Perhaps he shouldn't have manned up and apologized to the crowd.
