Thought I'd have a bit of a K-Cinema weekend and watch some of my favourite movies again.

Oldboy
The Man From Nowhere
I Saw The Devil
Lady Vengeance

And am about to watch The Gangster The Cop The Devil.

Clearly on a veneance theme, but still thoroughly entertaining movies. Will do a psychological thriller weekend next, I think.

Would be great to get a compendium of great Korean films across genres, if possible.

Could anyone recommend any dark comedies or thrillers, per chance?

Castaway on the moon. Dark comedy, kind of. Watch it! I loved it! One of the first Korean movies I watched, and it’s amazing.

Two movies that haven't been mentioned so far:

A Tale Of Two Sisters
I generally don't like horror, but this is the exception. It's a very good movie that just happens to have horror elements in it, rather than being a pure horror movie.

A Dirty Carnival
It's not a well-known movie like the other titles you'll see in this thread, but it's probably one of the most interesting gangster movies I've seen(and I've seen almost all the famous Korean gangster movies). Much more character/story-driven than gritty/violent(though it does have some of this as well)

Peppermint Candy

Did the Memento "tell a story backwards" thing before Memento did, although not to the same extent. Really good film

TBF the flashback storytelling technique was used long before Memento.

Great film btw. Forgot about it

If Japanese films are okay to suggest then I feel I have to put forward 'The Happiness of the Katakuris', it's extremely crazy but a truly awesome film.

Very enjoyable, but 'just' a run of the mill action romp with a period setting - no real depth or complexity to it. Still, well constructed, acted and deliciously evil - the villain really is a nasty piece of work!

I'm trying to get a hold of some of these movies, but they're very hard to come by.

Yep, all great films. Only saw Burning lately and think that might be the best of the lot.

I'd also include Mother and I Saw The Devil, which was somewhere between absolute tosh and weirdly brilliant. I've not really decided!

Just watched Bedevilled. One of the most depressing films I've ever seen - and it's supposed to be a horror!

I guess that's more a living hell kind of horror, and if that's what they were going for, they certainly succeeded.
