2011 All Star Weekend

Quick standings update. As I said, next season I'll drop the previous update and just combine them into this one. But here's a few games of progress (or regress..ion?)

Observations:
  • @Skizzo and the Pacers are finding some form and solidifying their playoff chances.
  • @sebsheep and the Heat aren't quite there yet, but 6-3 is a good start.
  • 4-5 isn't great for @Dr. Dwayne and the Jazz, given they are only wins ahead of the Clippers just outside of the playoff spots.
  • The surprisingly bad Kings (@oneniltothearsenal and @P-Nut) are looking to improve, while the surprisingly bad Grizzlies (@Solius) are still surprisingly bad.
  • Both conferences seem rather top heavy, with three or four pretty good teams and a whole bunch of meh. On the plus side, that means anything could happen. Well, almost anything. I don't think @Samid or @reelworld are making the playoffs.

All Star Weekend

Dunk Contest - Kevin Durant ain't shit

3 Point Contest - fewer Cafites than for a while, partly due to injuries. 5x winner @BenitoSTARR is in, as is 3x winner @Solius and perennial participants @Samid and @P-Nut. Solius hasn't won since he had this third in a row in 2004. 3x Caf-destroyer Kyle Korver is also here.

1st Round - 4 advance

Martell Wester: 25
Kyle Korver: 22
Kirk Hinrich: 26
J.R. Bremer: 28

The reigning 3-Point Champion is out just like that! 21 is the worst BenitoSTARR has shot in one of those, by some margin.

Better from Samid, 26 might be enough to go through.

P-Nut needs Solius to shoot 25 or lower.

27! We've only got two Cafites in the 2nd Round (Samid and Solius - the SS boys), which is great news for me (fewer screenshots). Unless someone starts shooting identically and takes us into tiebreak rounds. Don't you fecking dare Solius, I will end you.

2nd Round - 2 advance

Kirk Hinrich: 19
J.R. Bremer: 24

Solius is easily through!

Samid too! It's an All-Caf final round.

Final Round

Samid did well to get to the final round, but it's the return of 3P-Solius!

All Star Game

West - @P-Nut returns as West captain, his 5th time in a row. @Solius, @Dr. Dwayne and @altodevil also return.

East - @BenitoSTARR loses the East captaincy to bonafide superstar Kevin Durant. @hobbers makes his 11th appearance and @Samid his 6th, while @Salt Bailly continues his veteran arc by making his 2nd all star team in a row. We've also got a (sort of) newcomer: The Cub (@The Cat). @V.O. misses out on injury.

The East wins! 2nd time in a row, and the 5th time in 6 years.

10/11 End of Season and Playoff Bracket

Final Conference Standings

Western Conference - another strong season from @altodevil and the Lakers. @Dr. Dwayne makes his 5th playoffs, and his first with Utah - though their poor form in the last third of the season almost put them out. Conversely, the decent form of the Kings makes sure that the new duo of @oneniltothearsenal and @P-Nut make the playoffs with one win to spare! Half the playoff teams from the West have a below 50% win record.

At the bottom of the conference we have two youngsters, @Stobzilla at the Hornets and @reelworld on the Nuggets. Both had almost decent records to end the end the season. reelworld II in particular might take heart from actually having a winning record in the last 25 games of the season. @Solius also has one with the surprisingly bad Memphis Grizzlies, though it was not quite good enough for a playoff spot. Incredibly only three wins off, though.

Eastern Conference - what drama! @Salt Bailly's Toronto Raptors end the season with a very good 15-10 record, and winning their last two games was enough to put them even on wins with two teams who didn't make the playoffs, the Cavs and @BenitoSTARR's Knicks - pulling ahead on tiebreakers. Right ahead of them we have @sebsheep who also had a good end to the season, and right ahead of that @Skizzo, who kinda didn't - but still had enough of a buffer to make it in 6th.

The two Cafite final hopes in the East are definitely @V.O. with the Nets and @hobbers with the Celtics. Both will probably have to beat a strong Washington Wizards to get there, though, and hobbers will have to do it in the 2nd Round. At the bottom we have the unsurprisingly bad Charlotte Bobcats, though @Samid did help them nearly double their wins with a 7-17 end. @weetee's Hawks aren't quite that bad, but still pretty bad. @Dan and @The Cat were only two games from 39 wins, and coincidentally lost their last two games.

Regular Season League Leaders

Playoff Bracket

Injuries - only starting 5:
Kevin Durant (Washington): 3 games
Channing Frye (Washington): 3 games
Chris Bosh (Toronto): 8 games
Zoran Planinic (Philadelphia): 1 game
Anfernee Hardaway (Miami): 13 games
Jared Dudley (Indiana): 7 games
Nick Fazekas (Indiana): 4 games

Oh and...
(Indiana)

Six teams in the playoffs with losing/tied records, including half the teams in the West. That's got to be some kind of record?

If only me and Solius would have had 1 season together rather than just missing out on the meet up.

Surprised to make the play offs so suppose this has been a good season.

If next season Denver can land either Kawhi or Kyrie then hopefully that would be enough for playoff!
Next draft is pretty bad though beside those two

It's not a bad little draft, honestly. Remember it bases their stats on their rookie season, so we might have some funny results. Like Iman Shumpert possibly being the best player of the draft.

Actually this made me curious, so here are the best players from each draft class since we started, by peak (excluding you lot):

2010: John Wall (61/73)
2009: Tyreke Evans (67/78)
2008: Derrick Rose (77/83)
2007: Kevin Durant (83/89)
2006: Brandon Roy (72/74)
2005: Yaroslav Korolev (71/76)
2004: Josh Childress (77/80)
2003: Carmelo Anthony (79/83)
2002: Caron Butler (75/77)
2001: Andrei Kirilenko (75/78)
2000: Darius Miles (77/78)
1999: James Posey (69/73)
1998: Vince Carter (79/79)
1997: Tim Thomas (72/76)
1996: Allen Iverson (77/80)
1995: Michael Finley (80/82)

2011 Playoffs - 1st Round

@altodevil @Dr. Dwayne @oneniltothearsenal @P-Nut @Salt Bailly @hobbers @V.O. @Skizzo @sebsheep

Lakers 113-88 Golden State | altodevil: 10/14/0
Clippers 95-94 Utah | Dr. Dwayne: 28/6/7
Portland 124-132 Sacramento | oneniltothearsenal: 27/10/3 & P-Nut: 44/1/13
Washington 103-82 Toronto | Salt Bailly: 21/19/5
Boston 92-95 Philadelphia | hobbers: 13/6/8
New Jersey 109-98 Indiana | V.O.: 18/1/16 | Skizzo: out injured
Chicago 106-87 Miami | SebJr: 17/0/3

Lakers 105-96 Golden State | altodevil: 3/25/1
Clippers 93-97 Utah | Dr. Dwayne: 36/8/3
Portland 122-114 Sacramento | oneniltothearsenal: 9/8/3 & P-Nut: 45/0/9
Washington 112-94 Toronto | Salt Bailly: 20/8/6
Boston 89-105 Philadelphia | hobbers: 32/13/9
New Jersey 105-70 Indiana | V.O.: 25/1/12 | Skizzo: out injured
Chicago 112-109 Miami | SebJr: 6/1/4

Lakers 101-92 Golden State | altodevil: 6/15/3
Clippers 107-115 Utah | Dr. Dwayne: 42/10/2
Portland 109-107 Sacramento | oneniltothearsenal: 14/16/0 & P-Nut: 37/3/12
Washington 114-98 Toronto | Salt Bailly: 25/6/7
Boston 102-96 Philadelphia | hobbers: 35/11/14
New Jersey 107-115 Indiana | V.O.: 14/1/17 | Skizzo: out injured
Chicago 116-98 Miami | SebJr: 15/3/7 (in 18 minutes!)

Lakers 81-97 Golden State | altodevil: 0/17/0
Clippers 112-101 Utah | Dr. Dwayne: 34/10/4
Portland 95-102 Sacramento | oneniltothearsenal: 16/16/1 & P-Nut: 40/3/6
Washington 112-99 Toronto | Salt Bailly: 15/5/9
Boston 84-80 Philadelphia | hobbers: 21/12/11
New Jersey 120-103 Indiana | V.O.: 29/0/15 | Skizzo: out injured
Chicago 115-98 Miami | SebJr: 7/0/6

We lose Salt Bailly and Toronto, but it would have taken a miracle to beat the Wizards as the 8-seed. He's never played better in the playoffs before, so the loss isn't on him. SebJr didn't play enough to heavily impact the series, but beating Chicago was probably never on the cards either.

Lakers 87-74 Golden State | altodevil: 2/24/6
Clippers 102-112 Utah | Dr. Dwayne: 25/7/1
Portland 103-102 Sacramento | oneniltothearsenal: 6/14/1 & P-Nut: 29/3/12
Boston 108-82 Philadelphia | hobbers: 23/8/13
New Jersey 111-80 Indiana | V.O.: 24/1/13 | Skizzo: out injured

altodevil is through, as expected, as is V.O.! We lose Skizzo, but he was injured for the duration (and would miss the next round also in any case).

Clippers 85-110 Utah | Dr. Dwayne: 22/9/4
Portland 87-117 Sacramento | oneniltothearsenal: 9/8/3 & P-Nut: 43/3/9
Boston 99-83 Philadelphia | hobbers: 25/7/10

Utah and Dr. Dwayne make it through after his best playoff series ever, at the age of 33! As does hobbers after going down 0-2 and momentarily probably furiously preparing his next post in this thread.

Portland 96-92 Sacramento | oneniltothearsenal: 15/10/2 & P-Nut: 39/1/8

We lose the Sacramento boys (oneniltothearsenal and P-Nut)! They were heavy underdogs, so losing in 7 games is no great failure. Also note how three of their losses were within 4 points. After the start of the season they had this should not be considered a disappointment.

We've got another Cafite match-up in the West, but hobbers would do very well to get through Washington in the east, while V.O. has an okay chance on paper.

Though this probably doesn't help V.O.:

Ryan Anderson (69 ovr) and Channing Frye (62 ovr) on Washington are also still injured for 3 and 1 game respectively, but both will play through it.

You're not wrong, was furious reading 105-89 defeat in game 2.

We so inconsistent.
