Didn’t want episode 6 to end. Absolutely loved it.
It's fantastic. The one shots are the best in the comic too I feel.Didn’t want episode 6 to end. Absolutely loved it.
100%. Fantastic episode. I am wondering if this is what WoT noobs feel like watching the show. With no preconceptions of the story or characters it’s a wonderful experience.Didn’t want episode 6 to end. Absolutely loved it.
Episode 6 was probably my favorite episode, so you have that to look forward to.I've been watching this with no knowledge of the character or story as my wife is a big fan of Neil Gaiman and has been looking forward to it. I really enjoyed the first episode in particular, and the next three were decent. We just watched the fifth one last night though and I did not enjoy that one at all. I get what they were trying to show, but I just did not care about any of the characters they introduced. They spent the best part of an hour introducing them and their lives to show us the consequences of John Dee's plan, but by the time they showed that I just wanted it to be over with! Then it took all of five minutes for him to be (seemingly) defeated. It just seemed like an unnecessarily long diversion from the story, particularly given the length of the previous few episodes.
It's Neil Gaiman, of course it is philosophical.I thought at first he's gonna be teaming up with Constantine to catch the bad guys. But up to episode 6 it looks like a very different movie. Stopped watching. Too phylosophical and too slow for me. Might speed up next season if there is next season but not looking forward to this
But where's the Boom, Kaplunk, Splat, holy socks Batman? It's Neil Gaiman, of course it is philosophical.
I honestly have no idea on what it's all about, just seen the short Netflix "pop up" play where they have Constantine doing what she does. It's Neil Gaiman, of course it is philosophical.
Its based off a comic, not a book. 24 hours (the diner ep) is far darker in the comic and my favourite ever issue of any comic book ever released. But where's the Boom, Kaplunk, Splat, holy socks Batman?
I thought this was a Spiderman spin-off but was relieved it's based off an actual book. I enjoyed it and tried to imagine watching what the author was trying to convey. The restaurant episode made much more sense once I did that.
You're laughably bad Drebin. The dialogue and accents in this are laughably bad.
Coraline <3It's Neil Gaiman, of course it is philosophical.
Not seen or read that one. I take it from the post it is worth it?Coraline <3
It's an animated movie not sure if that's your cup of tea. It's Tim Burton so it's very dark and a good story. I think it's one of the best animated film ever. I never read the book but if it's anything like the movie, it should be a good read. It was nominated for a few Oscars as well. Not seen or read that one. I take it from the post it is worth it?
Tbf, its got better as the shows gone on. But the first 3 episodes had a silly amount of incessant and unnecessary bad language that it felt so forced and eye-rolling.You're laughably bad Drebin.
he is a terrific actor. Been in loads of things. David Thewlis is his name.Finished this today and really liked it, the guy who plays John Dee was pretty good.
What do you think are the deviations? I was particularly impressed by the recreation of the comic's feel, including the increase in quality as it progresses, so I'm interested in what you feel varies or is shoehorned.I'm two episodes in and it is starting look and feel like a doctor who serial. Shame as the graphic novels are excellent. There's a lot of weird shoehorning too, but I guess it's got gaimans blessing.
The best episodes are six and eleven to my mind. The first five episodes were brilliant. The last five were still good but not as good as the first five.
The original pronunciation of the name is Contantyne. It didnt become Constanteen until the 2005 Keanu Reeves movie that also changed the character from blonde Liverpudlian to Black haired LA douche. When Matt Ryan took over the role they brought back the blonde Brit persona but kept the "teen" pronunciation. Gaiman has said that it was Moore who named the character, and "Tyne" is how he pronounced it.Just finished watching this now - I watched the first episode weeks ago, and liked it well enough, but was sidetracked, and then bingewatched the rest of it now.
I agree with what was said above - the first five were good. It's been a long time since I read the comic book, but I remembered several aspects of the story (the duel in Hell, not least, which I thought was well executed in the show). The last episodes were indeed a bit shite - the serial killer convention stuff didn't work at all. The last episode was also shite - the animated cat thing was just...generic crap, and the live action part was essentially a mediocre Twilight Zone effort.
And - yeah - the one in the middle was very good. Absolutely very good. I enjoyed the dynamic between Sandman/Dream (in general: good casting, liked him) and Death (excellent casting, nailed it for me - again, based on what I remember from the comic book.
I will definitely check out the new season, but I'm very skeptical - the trend is that these adaptation series get progressively more shit.
Also - the female Constantine character wasn't very good. In the comic book (the main one, where Sandman is trapped and then gets his gear back), that was good ol' John Constantine - as far as I remember (as in: male). I don't mind that switch, as such, but the character just wasn't very interesting/well portrayed. Cynical lesbian who wasn't all that cynical after all - bah, meh, yeah.
ETA Not to mention: John Constantine is completely fecked up: an alcoholic, chain smoker, hardly able to function at times. The female Constantine looked far too healthy and didn't come across as nearly fecked up enough. For someone familiar with the comics, the scene where Sandman appeared at her place (which was kind of Hollywood messy) just seemed ridiculous. Constantine shouldn't be Hollywood messy: he/she should be genuinely shabby as feck.
Also - shouldn't Constantine be pronounced "constanteen" (not "constantyne")?
I still think it's the closest we've had to the Constantine we know and love. Certainly I trust Gaiman to handle him better than most and the cameo in the TV show is very similar to the cameo in the comic, including the merciful death. And it was good to hear the name pronounced the British way, as it should be.Just finished watching this now - I watched the first episode weeks ago, and liked it well enough, but was sidetracked, and then bingewatched the rest of it now.

Cool, didn't know that (about the rights). The original pronunciation of the name is Contantyne. As for way theres no John in the show, it's a rights issue. Bad Robot had a version of the character ready to go with a live action version Justice League Dark. Watchers of Legends of Tomorrow will also notice that Matt Ryan was quickly pulled out of that show around the same time that the deal was made only to return as completely different character. Supposedly JJ ask Warner for exclusive rights to the character for merchandising reasons and didnt want any other versions of the character out at the same time. So no John in Legends, or in Sandman. Having Johnna at that point seemed like the solid choice, according to Gaiman.
