I met a girl yesterday who's favourite band is The Smiths and she also loves The Cure, which are two of my favourite bands, sadly...she kind of works for me so i don't think i could go there. :(

Make it so that Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want and Lovesong plays whenever you're around, and subconsciously make her yours so that she'll come to you instead.

Thing is she is 21 and we were chatting whilst cleaning bedrooms when she told me that she loves The Smiths and we were getting on and somehow the conversation turned slightly and she blurts out that she only dates guys over 30 (i'm 32) which i didn't think was odd at all, until my boss and I were doing paperwork later in the day and he informs me that she had asked how old i was earlier in the day.

weird.

Well I'm almost 30 so maybe I could swing it.

I mean obviously she likes you but you said you can't so you know.

Ok let me clarify...

I could potentially get into trouble for dating her, i am no stranger to trouble and will do it anyway.

Yeah I have to be extra sure though as i am technically her boss, so mis-reading signs and asking too early is risky as feck.

I love The Smiths.

Yeah, I think Hatful might be my favourite album. But then Queen is Dead. And Strangeways. And Meat is Murder. When you look at the singles and b sides they put out in such a short period of time, it has to go down as one of the most immense, sustained creative bursts in music doesn't it? Musically and lyrically they were incandescent.

A wonderful group. So were Electronic, and Morrissey's early solo career was great, too, with a splendid last hurrah for Mick Ronson. It's a shame where he's gone since, though. But we'll always have Johnny Marr.

It's funny how later musicians talked about McCartney, Jagger, Richards et al. and yet almost all of them fell so much faster. Oh, the Stone Roses...

Anyone listened to/got TQID Deluxe Edition? Dunno if any of the demos have been on any other compilations/bootlegs before, but some of them are great.

I'm going to 'These Smiths' in Wigan this evening. I don't know if it'll be any good but at least I'll know all the tunes.

Never really got them to be honest. Love most of the local bands from the 80s like New Order, Happy Mondays and, to a lesser extent, the Stone Roses, but, while a few tracks are superb (This Charming Man, How Soon Is Now, There is a Light that Never Goes Out) overall they leave me a bit cold. Hated them at school, tried to get into them later but..I liked Electronic so maybe it's the horrible singing voice (even compared to Sumner) that's the problem. Plus Morrissey is very unlikeable to put it mildly.

Editing my own posts.
I’ve never understood how anyone who wasn’t of a very specific age at a very specific time fell for Morrissey’s 6th form poetry nonsense.

In retrospect he’s a massive joke, right?

I doubt you would be posing that question if he hadn’t come out as a little Englander in recent years.

His body of work with The Smiths is significant.

Driving in your car is a good tune.
Headmasters ritual is good too.
They have some quality stuff, but a lot of people don't bother because Morrissey is a twat. Wasters.

Over-rated yeah, and loads of of clunky lyrics especially on the bsides but don't really agree, he was funny as feck when he was writing for them and really good eye for detail.

@Rolandofgilead a good friend of mine hired his very soon to be wife when he was a manager at KFC and in college. Don't worry about breaking rules. If you like her and she likes you that's all that matters.

One man's 6th form poetry nonsense is another man's genius I suppose.
