Monaco: tiemoué bakayoko, followed by Southampton and Manchester United, wants to set

Arriving at Monaco in 2014 from Rennes, tiemoué bakayoko (21 years) could leave the Rock this summer.
Midfielder AS Monaco tiemoué bakayoko (21 years, under contract in 2019) does not seem to be part of plans to Leonardo Jardim. He studied proposals from abroad, including Stoke and Southampton. Manchester United keeps an eye. He played 19 Ligue 1 games last season.

Don't know anything about the player, maybe @bucky @JPRouve @Downcast @BBRBB can chip in on him.

Another player I've never heard of and I can't spell.

I swear agents and tabloids are just trying to make football fans literacy levels go up.

Only saw him couple times. He is like Fellaini of Makelele role. Tall and physical. Dominating in the air. Seal the ball well. Other than that slow and clumsy on ball. Expect simple pass. Any fancy pass is not his specialty. Can't tell his positional, tactical ability though. At least not elbowing everyone.

Don't take my word for it though. Maybe he developed more since I watch him?

I think he's definitely a talented player, but he wouldn't be the first midfielder of the the talented young ones that are playing in France I'd hope we'd sign. To be honest when I was watching Monaco I was paying more attention to Lemar and Fabinho. I had a similar impression like @ti vu , the only thing I disagree with, I thought he was decent at dribbling.

If he isn't considered good enough for Monaco I don't think MU sould be interested. I saw signs of improvements last year from 14/15 but trying to be a first teamer for Stoke or Southampton already seems challenging enough at this point in his career.

It's a bit strange though because with Toulalan and possibly Fabinho leaving there's room for him and he's still very young and could develop further to a high level.

@JPRouve is our resident Monaco follower and probably knows him better

I hate when we sign players I don't know. Most of the time, it doesn't work out. :(

We're linked with quite a lot of Monaco players I notice. Is there a big Mendes influence there?

Or it's just because of Martial and they figured we must have scouted them.

Didn't their sugar-daddy project dry up? I thought the income tax loophole for the players had been closed as well...I don't recall hearing the resolution of it...

It's not really a loophole there is no income tax in Monaco unless you are french.

Concerning Bakayoko, he is an alright squad player for Monaco but not good enough for United, like for Ounas I don't believe the rumour.

@Devil may care

It could be smart to hire him at a low price and loan him to another EPL club.

I'm not in a position to assess his potential for improvement.

However, I don't have any reservations about him and sometimes you may need to take some risks to have very good surprises.

"could leave the Rock this summer."

Poor Dwayne Johnson will be devastated.

Only 21 and already married and looking to divorce a pro wrestler/hollywood actor! Sign him up, bound to be good for our commercial deals.

Good drive with the ball, comfortable under pressure, solid destroyer.

Not the deep lying playmaker i hope we go for, but maybe Mourinho has different plans.

Bloody love us being linked to players I've barely heard about.

Plays very similarly to Pogba, may seem like a lazy comparison but that's all that came through my head watching him. Looks a very good player.

Bakayoko doesn't exactly sound like a 'Carrick replacement' and doesn't seem like it from that video, but I guess it does make sense to have that destroyer option in the side, especially if Griezmann is the summer target. I can imagine Mourinho setting up with somebody like Bakayoko doing all the dirty clean-up for Pogba, Griezmann, and Ibrahimovic et al. and water carrying for them to do all the creative work.

He isn't exactly a destroyer either, that's what Fabinho does for Monaco. Bakayoko is more box-to-box.

People expecting a younger version of Carrick to waltz in next summer are having a laugh.

A little bit like the people that wanted Carrick to come in and play like Roy Keane. Football doesn't really work like that. And I don't think Mourinho's idea of a midfield necessarily requires it either.

Also we don't need a like-for-like replacement either, someone with a good passing range would be great but we need someone capable of reading the game well whilst also being reasonably good defensively, we just need a player who can play in a way that still frees up Pogba and Herrera without compromising the defensive integrity of the team.

I'm still shocked that people don't seem to understand what Carrick brings to Pogba and to a lesser degree Ander. If we buy Bakayoko it would hopefully be as a rotation for Ander as he's not suited to being the holding CM, not suited at all.

I agree. A mini Carrick would be nice but it's not essential. A big, athletic lad that can put himself about and win the ball would be great in itself. Chelsea are sat top of the league with Kante and Matic in midfield and neither of those two play anything like Carrick, really.

I was going to answer to your post in the other thread. You are right, he isn't a playmaker, a great passer or a great defender but maybe that's not what Mourinho wants.

People understand it perfectly well, it's just not essential. A three man midfield can work incredibly well with a defensive midfielder at the base.

The thing I'd ask then is why not just groom TFM as Ander's understudy? His strengths are the same, power, drive, pace and mobility, buying someone else for the role seems counter productive to me.

Not if you want Pogba to be at his very best, there's a reason that his best form has came with a holding CM (Pirlo/Marchisio/Carrick) that can play acurrately and consistently through the lines, if you play with some lump at the base then Pogba constantly has to drop deep to get on the ball and that fecks up the shape of the team, it ruins the press and takes Pogba out of the parts of the pitch where he can hurt teams.

Pogba has had great games at United without Carrick. He had the luxury of playing with Pirlo for a couple of years, and now Carrick for a couple of weeks, but there's no definitive evidence to suggest he needs that to perform.

Marchisio, for one, isn't really like that pair and Pogba has looked perfectly fine alongside players like Vidal, Khedira and Matuidi elsewhere.

We aren't going to be playing with "some lump" at the base either. I'd imagine Mourinho wants an athletic, physical ball winner that can also help initiate attacks. Makelele, Cambiasso, Motta, Essien, Matic and Khedira have all played regularly under Mourinho in the past, none of whom play like carbon copies of Carrick.

I've got no idea if this Monaco lad is up to much, but if he's a good defensive midfielder that can sit infront of defence then I'm sure he'll be a welcome addition.

Whether this happens or not says a lot to me about how highly Jose rates TFM to be honest. Considering he doesn't really possess the traits to be a holding midfielder I don't see a real need for him, much like I don't see the need for Lindelof, but hey - in Jose we trust.

Rather we looked at Lemar

Agreed

I assume he'd replace Fellaini as the more-physical, less-creative rotation option with Ander in the second midfield spot. Physicality, stamina, dribbling and aerial ability are his most recognisable traits; he's not a holding player or deep-lying passer.
