Hard to believe there was a six year period between Schmeichel and Van der Sar where goalkeeper was a problem position for United.
And interesting how effectively Fergie learnt his lesson from it, right? Remember how desperate the media was for the pattern to repeat itself when we bought De Gea, I must have read three or four separate articles predicting he'd be the first of another string of flops. But the boss had got his preparation right this time and he absolutely nailed it.

  1. David De Gea
  2. Peter Schmeichel
  3. Petr Cech
  4. David Seaman
  5. Edwin van der Sar
Shout out to Nigel Martyn as best of the rest - 4 appearances in the PFA team of the year.
Martyn should have replaced Seaman as England's number 1 by the late 90s. Seaman was over the hill and there on reputation.

Aye totally. Seaman's lack of mobility was very evident around that period and into the 2000s - remember him getting lobbed from a corner against Macedonia and then obviously Ronaldinho. England were often guilty of being too loyal to keepers who had once served them well.

Nayim lobbed him from the halfway line too when he was at his peak. Tbh any top modern keeper would have got to this.

Back on topic same list as everyone else.

Schmichael
Cech
DDG
VDS
Seaman

Top 4 in any order, Seaman clearly 5th imo
