So we stick with Ashley Young instead?

I wouldn't mind seeing him there. He has experience, quality and is better than who we currently have. Buy him, don't pay too much in my opinion.
We'd just be adding to the deadwood.

Then that makes him pointless, he's hopeless at defending. Buying him for 35 million is bad business he's also 29 this year.

I wouldn't mind him as almost a 'last resort' option to play behind Dalot in the pecking order but he'd be far from my first choice.

1. AWB
2. Meunier
3. Hysaj (Napoli)
4. Valery (kid from Saints, looks promising)
5. Trippier
6. Promote a youth prospect like Laird
7. Keep playing Young. UGH.

The only circumstance in which buying Trippier makes sense is if Solskjear is set on playing a back 3 with wing-backs next season. And I think if that was his plan we would have seen it used a lot more than just the occasional game under him so far.

Which player would want to trade Spurs for Manchester Utd and risk his career at this point?
Not to mention that living in London is actually something that can play at Spurs favour when offering contracts.

Most of the established players will only come to our club for a huge wage boost.

Everyone wants Wan Bissaka but I can't see it. He's too similar age to Dalot. We need an experience right back over 25. No idea who we can get though.

Trippier looks out of depth against the real elite players or anyone with pace. I can't see Meunier leaving from PSG to a sorry state of a club we currently have.

Only a year older than Dalot but he's got a full season of premier league football under his belt unlike Dalot who has played sporadically.

Trippier doesn't impress me defensively, but can whip in some good crosses. Would be an improvement on that front over anything we currently have.

I personally like Wan Bissaka but I can’t see the club going in for him because of Dalot’s age.

I think Dalot can replace Young and Darmian - fullbacks that appears on both sides of the pitch.
Dalot needs to improve his defensive play first. We know he likes to attack but I remain unconvinced about his defending.

Then again it’s confidence. He’s playing in a side that barely gives him defensive cover

I mean sure, he's not as shit as Young.

But that's all you can say for him.

Would be an appalling signing given all the options out there.

Dalot has shown no promise at right back. The best scenario is to bring in AWB who is already world class in his position, move Dalot up to the right wing and get a Sancho or whoever to rotate with him.

I too am done if we sign trippier. Brainless defender.
He’s certainly not brainless as a footballer, he just doesn’t have the speed or strength and gets found out. Last year we nearly always had a defensive mid that helped our fullbacks our defensively. Since then our strength in midfield has literally evaporated so Trippier struggles. Offensively he is good. Having said that I think he will be sold and would love to see him go to Italy or Spain and see him do well, there will be interest in him.

If anyone on here wants Trippier at OT, please watch the Spurs-Ajax game right now. He's so far out of his depth.

He’s absolutely fecking shite. It’s actually like watching Young, down to the supposed crossing ability.

He's fecking shit. He's always been a fecking shit footballer that can cross a ball decently but now his crossing is shit too.

I think his confidence has definitely gone and it's affecting him but yeah I don't think Young would do any worse.

He's terrible. Why on Earth would anyone but his agent link us?

Sure he actually played a ball through to an Ajax player at the edge if his own own box last night too. Maybe a Spurs fan can correct me, was in the right back position when a Spurs player just set up an attack.

He's had a dreadful season after an excellent WC. A real shame as his development from his Burnley days is something to be very proud of but he's hit his ceiling now. Wouldn't be a smart signing.

Can we not just close this thread?

Gives me depression just seeing he has his own transfer thread. Sort of like Young's contract extension thread.

I'll be quite relieved when he signs somewhere else. We probably were never really interested but still, it would put my mind at ease knowing Woody doesn't have the option.
