It's a thankless job with thirsty online muppets demanding facts before things actually happen. At the end of the day, it will be impossible to get an exclusive if people waited until after an occurance. However, if people are aware that wheels are in motion, and that interest from relevant parties is there, then of course they will report 'deal on'. When it goes wrong, they will of course get reactions like yours.
And when journos take the opposite approach like Howard Nurse and only post once things are all confirmed, they get ridiculed for that as well.
