Always exciting to watch for the french teams.

Caqueret - Le Fee - Man Utd Koné - Thuram is a ridiculous set of midfielders at this level. I’d be very happy to see any one of them at United.

We have 0 players in this with Kovar not being fit. Annoying!

Is Italy participating in this?

What are the odds of them making the final and losing it?

It hurts to see we lost 4 finals + 1 semifinal at:

- minute 88 vs Spain
- minute 86 vs Uruguay
- minute 88 vs City, Lukaku open goal miss
- minute 90 vs West Ham
- penalties vs Sevilla

But yeah, at least we were there, in the final stage, all the times while every other european countries but England, Spain, Croatia didn't even reach one single final..

I'd been looking forward to watching this tournament for a while, until I realised it won't be on UK television due to a lack of agreement between UEFA and domestic broadcasters:
AHEAD OF THE GAME: England U21s' European Championship is in danger of a TV blackout | Daily Mail Online

A massive shame as these youth tournaments capture some of the long lost surprise and excitement that we used to associate with their senior equivalents, whether that be future superstars announcing themselves from obscurity or surprise runs from traditionally unfancied countries.

I don't understand why Edwards and Iling-Junior aren't in the squad.

Gallagher and Guehi should go too.

It has been a while since I've been excited by a french U21 team, but this one could be special even if I don't rate Ripoll.
Caqueret and Cherki have a lot to gain if they shine during this tournament.

Perhaps the most entertaining goalless draw I've seen in a while. Verbruggen looked excellent for the Netherlands, calm under pressure, good passing and important saves.

This is probably one of the worst portuguese U21 generations ever. If this is the best we have we are going for a dry patch in a few years.
There were overall weaker generations, but at least they had 2 or 3 players that would shine. Now it's just average or medicre players.

The England team looks quite odd. Garner at RB, Aarons at LB, Gordon at ST. I don't understand Lee Carsley at all. Maybe he's a genius but I can't help thinking he's a dud.

Yeah, just put it on and a bit confused about the shape/line up. Some good players in there but seems a mush mash of a team.

Haven't watched A. Gomes at Lille but seems like he is the deepest midfielder for England.

Kepherem Thuram and Man Utd Kone are two top midfielders.

Football without VAR is better. :l

Yeah but don't you love all those emotions, the passion?! Italians will get over it, football is just a game

Ridiculous. It’s a goal. Even if you don’t see that, it’s a penalty. Screwed up twice in one scene.

Yeah, we got robbed as usual tonight. It's shameful in 2023 there is neither Goal Line technology nor VAR in such an important competition (let's not forget the three best teams will play at the 2024 Olympic Games)

Did anyone watch the England game? The ESPN app had James Garner playing at right back, which surely must have been a mistake.

Disregard. Looks like SparkedIntoLife already covered this.

He had an absolute nightmare of a game the other night, but I think your player, Tomás Araújo, looks very promising.

Switzerland vs Italy… Bove committing the most obvious penalty you will see and the ref completely ignores it... Uefa compensating Italy for the France game?

Germany trailing against Czechia…

And England unconvincingly winning so far against a decent Israel side. Luckily for England they can‘t face any of the big teams before the semis.

The squad Sylvain Ripoll has at his disposition is truly ridiculous.
Should be fired if he doesn't win this tournament (should've been fired long ago in fact)

Leaning more now towards genius than dud. 3 wins and none conceded against Czechs, Israel and Germany is a really solid start. I don't actually think this squad is especially better than previous under 21 squads I've seen but Carsley seems to be making them gel. We'll see though; tougher challenges await.

We would've comfortably progressed from this group if we had a competent manager ffs

Hhm, England's is insane also.
True. England has an amazing squad as well but I think France's is better and more importantly Ripoll has failed with so many talented squads that he needs to finally win a title to justify him being kept in that position for the past 6 years

England have a really good squad.
