This is probably one of the worst portuguese U21 generations ever. If this is the best we have we are going for a dry patch in a few years.
There were overall weaker generations, but at least they had 2 or 3 players that would shine. Now it's just average or medicre players.
After watching this game, going to have to agree. That Samu Costa was fecking useless.

France v Spain and an England final would be nice. Just need to wake up in the second half :nervous:

Bradley Barcola from France is having a really good tournament.
He had a great breakthrough season for Lyon this year where he showcased a lot of maturity for his age. Definitely one to watch for the future in my opinion.
Same for Gouiri, although he has some issues adapting to Rennes, he’s a skillful player with great footballing IQ

We're playing great. Pen was unfortunate and pretty soft.
We're doing good but really should be beating them by a few goals. Oh and it's 1-2
Heads will roll if we go out to Ukraine

Turning into a Mudryk show. France should be marking him closely. If he plays well Ukraine plays well.

Not sure, Sylvain Ripoll is close to Deschamps.

Also it wouldn’t be the first we’d be having an underwhelming tournament for our U21 or other youth teams. Even the olympics were embarassing…

Mudryk choosing to make himself available for the U21s to play himself into some rhythm was commendable. Turning out to be a great decision.

"You and your paper can feck off."
The next generation will seemingly continue the story of every Ukraine squad since Sheva retired, full of decent players with nobody who can put the ball in the net consistently enough.

Ripoll needs to be SACKED this time around.
Should've been the case years ago but I don't see how he survives this one.

Imagine going into the Olympic Games in your own country with this man as your coach ...

Disheartened to hear that England were hanging on. I would hope that we could take the game to big nations and be on the front foot.

Honestly Mudryk was meh during the game. Involved in the 2 goals but nothing much to see other than that. Agreed he just came back from injury though

Most of all these 23 players will never become a top club player. João Neves had a good start at Benfica but bare in mind he played mainly because the other players were tottally jaded after a long season, his value is still to be proved yet.

The defenders are utterly average at their best display, our midfield lacks intensity and skill (Dantas is actually skilled, but lacks in all other aspects). Our attack is full of those FM players who have huge PA but will never make it, despite some of them already made expensive transfers.

Garner and Gomes both heavily involved in this tournament. Both academy players sold yet we keep the likes of Mctominey. Is another example of how badly run this club has been run in the last decade.

Gomes in particular has been very impressive in the way that he’s almost the deepest lying midfielder, controlling the game and the tempo with a lot of maturity and poise.

I always thought he was an attacking midfielder, so to see this side of his game is actually really impressive. There’s a lesson in there about not putting players in boxes and limiting them to the specific roles we saw them in first.

Even more baffling when you consider McTominay wasn't in the same stratosphere of talent as Gomes and Garner were in the academy.

Gomes has played quite a bit of 6 for England. He played there for the U-18 World Cup run.

He is probably going to end up at Brighton if we don't pull our finger out and realise that there is a real player there, size or not he is holding his own in an equally physical league in France.

Angel is small but i have for some reason never felt he is a lightweight that is easily pushed around by opponents. He seems to have good balance and a good sense of how to use his body in duels.

Yeah you mean the guy who is a full international for his country who seem to be going places and has been scoring goals there for fun lately against the likes of Spain.

England have a good team and there are a few players in this that will likely end up in the first team squad in the future like Gordon, MGW, Colwill, Garner, Gomes, Thomas, Smith-Rowe etc.

Totally agreed. Mctominey if I remember reading correctly nearly got let go but had some growth spirt and he got a break. Spot on with your analysis on Gomes. He definitely deserved more time here and a proper run.

Great start by England. Should be leading.
