I'm really surprised that the football club valuation in France is so low!

Nice sold for 100 mil euro.
PSG sold for 79 mil euro.
Marseillie sold for 44 mil euro.
Bordeaux sold for 95 mil euro.
Lille sold for 80 mil euro.

These figure are like buying one decent player in today's market. Am I missing something here?
It's a reflection of the league they play in, TV revenues, gates, operating profits etc. PL seems overvalued by contrast, but a lot of it's due to its much bigger international footprint.

It's still way too low. I mean Arsenal just bought Nicolas Pepe from Lille for 80 mil euro. How can the club valuation be cheaper than one player.

It's mainly due to the fact that most clubs do not own their stadiums or training grounds. If anyhting these valuations are relatively high.

To me it's still way too low. Someone should buy Monaco. With their young talents there they could strike jackpot.

Monaco is worth a lot more than the clubs that you mentioned and it's probably the worst club to own because they are too small to survive within FFP rules.

It feels absolutely crazy that PSG is allowed to compete in the Ligue 1 with far superior financial power than all other clubs and yet comply with FFP.

Monaco won the tiltle with young players was one of the greatest miracle.

Neymar's transfer fees alone can easily buy 3-4 decent club in France. PSG shouldn't be allowed to compete in Ligue 1.

FFP is a stupid idea that was always going to benefit established clubs/leagues and big cities. If it wasn't for PSG and QSI things would be a lot worse for Ligue 1 because it created bigger TV revenues.

Stupid idea to make clubs operate within their financial means? So you'd rather see clubs go under trying to play catch up?

Leicester have done very well despite FFP, so it's not exactly keeping the status quo...

He should make Sergio Biscuits his first signing.
Deffo

Its a great club
They have history of great goals on the breakaway
If the owner can sign a trio of great attackers along with a drifter to drift between the lines they will be a good team.
Hopefully the wagon wheels dont fall off.

FFP doesn't prevent clubs from going under and France was actually the example initially used with the DNCG which was deemed too complicated. Currently the only thing that the FFP does is allow the haves to stay up. Leicester and PL are a bad example because they are the ones that benefits the most, you basically have clubs that don't really perform at a high level and rarely play in european competitions receive money that was mainly produced by the 5-6 best teams in the league.

Arsenal should have just bought Lille for the Pepe money.
Yes, but you can also buy their bank debts, pay the wage of the other players and 200 people of staff, while are you trying to sell the club you bought to sign the player you want... :smirk:

There are some cons

Ligue 1 really is a joke. Maybe PSG, Lyon and Marseille would / could survive in the EPL, the rest would be struggling.

Check out the average attendances - they're way below even English Championship attendances.

And TV rights are peanuts compared to La Liga, Serie A and EPL.

Despite the French NT, football in France is not a huge spectator sport whether in the stadium or on TV.

If you think € 200 million is ' low value ' for a club in France, I've got a bridge in Brooklyn which would be far better value for you.

Average attendance in ligue1 is around 23000, serie a is similar, and Liga 26000, the championship is bellow 19000...

I think ligue1 suffer a lot of the bad European results of the post Bosman period, a bellow average marketing power, and the high tax system...
Epl is way hyped overrated as ligue1 is underrated, you mention the terrific level of the EPL, Can you remember the last 5 years results against ligue1 clubs?

About fiscal difference, just think that PSG pays more social taxes than the whole Liga, Serie a and Bundesliga together...crazy isn't it?
Why the fpf does not include this kind of disparity in the rules?

I don't get it either.

You can buy Marseille with the same amount used to buy Lenglet?
Marseille was a losing business at the time of the sale, plagued by mafia and stripped of all their valuable player assets, needing a deep rebuild.

At the moment only Lyon and PSG are worth upwards of €500m but the trend for other clubs seems pretty good.

If anything, it shows how the biggest clubs of England, Spain, Italy and Germany are miles ahead of french clubs with the exception of PSG. Not sure Lyon is currently as big as you say.

Lyon has a €300m turnover and own their stadium complex. They can compete financially with anyone but the top10.

From memory they paid their stadium and the training complex, so they should go back to the 2000s years, which means that they are going to pillage other Ligue 1 clubs, they started with their favorite target, Lille.

Shouldn't Ligue 1 clubs with decent academy structures be worth more than they're going for? A player like Lloris from the Nice academy now might bring back 30 or 40M from a club like Lyon with a percentage sell on fee once a richer team buys him.

Ligue 1 is favorite hunting ground for epl team and buying player from there is definitely not cheap.

It's bizzare that some of the clubs there are cheaper than players they sold

Football work in a strange way.

Man Utd is worth 4 bil and Nice is worth 100 mil. We would have thought that we can buy any players we want from Ligue 1 because of our financial power but reality is not the case. Buying good player from Ligue 1 sometime is more expensive than the club value
