Special against tight defend. And if Haaland end up at Old Trafford. It just make more sense. Reason why United shall drop to play the cam?
Because you only play a cam/nr.10 only the quality of the players like that is on the same level as Kaka, Zidane, Platini and Cantona or Dele Alli with Spurs. If you are aiming to get top 4 or win the premier leauge. The level of that player has to be in common with goal of the result to winning the league. And if you are satisfy with nr.8 or down the table. You can use Lingard, Perreira or Mata in that role. A winning premier league team demand that level and quality. So currently United dont have it. So drop it. Go for 2 really CF instead. Do United have it?Yes. In Martial, Rashford, Greenwood and Haaland if he is coming.
Pontential line up in 4-4-2 formation
James/Greenwood - McTom - Pobga - Rashford + Greenwood/Haaland - Martial/Rashford or
Greenwood - McTom - Pobga - James + Rashford - Martial
As wingers i prefer lightweight wingers. Haaland suit better as CF. Even Lukaku and Haaland can play as RW in need or crisis.
And i am 100 % sure against bottom half and tight defend. The result will be better with 442 instead of 4411 formation. Against better team 4411 might work better. or alternative with Pobga back 451 is an alternative option like this.
James - Fred/Lingard - McTom - Pobga - Rashford + Martial/Haaland
So in the end. Nothing personal against Mata and Lingard. But the truth is that. Same with James. They are not players to open up tight defenders, to get United enough points to get top 4 or win the premier league. It demand higher skills, qualities and level. Without Pobga United had struggle and will struggle. If Pobga stay out and no adding of a new really good and creative cm/nr.8 options in this january transfer window.
