FERDINAND TO FACE LATICS TONIGHT
Posted on: Wed 01 Sep 2010
Rio Ferdinand has been named in the Manchester United team which plays Latics tonight at Stalybridge in the Manchester Senior Cup, kick off 7.30pm.

The England captain will be making his first appearance since being injured in the first England training session after their arrival in South Africa for the World Cup.

Another England defender, Wes Brown is also in the team while his brother Reece is one of the Reds' substitutes.

The United team also includes Brazilian international Anderson, Italian Federico Macheda and Richie de Laet.

Team: Devlin, W Brown, Gill, Wootton, Ferdinand, de Laet, Macheda, Anderson, Cofie, Eikrem, Ajose. Subs: R Brown, Coll, Tunnicliffe, Lingard.

Latics point out that as it is a cup match it is pay on the turnstiles for all fans. The prices are £4 for adults, and £2 for over-65s and under-16s.

From that line up it looks like Rio might be playing centre mid!

Would be great to have the Brown brothers playing together for at least some of the game. From an interview I have read previously, I don't believe they have ever played a competitive game together.

Wootton played there recently didn't he?
He's played there once or twice for the Academy and looked quite confortable there.

With Rio I'm assuming that he'd get a better run out in midfield as Oldham are unlikely to carry too much of an attacking threat, especially considering the strength of our line-up.

Thinking of going to this, just waiting to hear back from my mate.

Anyone been before; easy to find/park?

The line up looks right, quite a decent crowd on here. Will update during the game for those who are interested.
Yes please!

Rio and Anderson in the squad? Along with Macheda?

Hopefully Rio looks ready to go, Anderson looks motivated and Macheda looks sharp!

Oldham hit the crossbar with a great dipping free kick. United having more possession but struggling to impose their game against a committed and well organised team.

Oldham with a long range shot hit with power but straight at Devlin.

Ajose nearly plays De Laet through with a great slide rule pass. Most of Utds best play down the right. Macheda, Cofie and Ajose peripheral. Rio looks typically elegant, Ando a bit off the pace and the Hollywood passed not coming off at the moment.

0-0 ht.

United dominating possession but struggling to convert their superiority into chances and haven't made their keeper make a save.

Oldham look more up for it and quicker to the ball and deserve to be level. Hopefully the game improved 2nd half.

There's also loads of little midgey bastards flying around everywhere.

The orange offside trap fails and the Oldham striker forces a save from Devlin at his near post.

Oldham's Jacobson scores from the corner, Devlin culpable.

Them Ajose scores a great equaliser from the left.

1-1.
