Got the idea of this thread from another thread recently started concerning the question Ronaldo legend yes or no.
For me he isn't legendary status, but that's just my opinion. Whatever, tried my hand on picking, what I think, is the best utd team of legends. An almost impossible task as you are going to leave out players that deserve to be in there. Problem is you can only pick eleven and these are mine:

Gregg

Neville
Foulkes
Edwards
Evra

Robson
Scholes
Charlton

Law
Cantona
Best

What’s the difference between this and Uniteds best ever eleven?

Also strange to give Evra Legend status and not Ronaldo.

Don’t get Evra being regarded as a United legend, aside from the fact he’s a jovial character.

He's probably on par with Irwin in his pomp albeit 100 less appearances. Both are legends imo.

Schmeichel
G. Neville---Rio---Foulkes---Irwin
Best---Keane---Scholes---Giggs
Charlton
Law

These things are always so tough to do, but doing a legends line-up whilst leaving out Cantona and Robson is particularly difficult :nervous:

I'm astonished that some of the following stars brought in during the Fergie era have missed out: -

Taibi

DeLaet Blanc Prunier Buttner

Tosic Djemba-Djemba Kleberson Cruyff

Manucho Bebe

It's such a shame that team never got to take the field together!

Would give our current XI in their current form a proper game.

If you were having a one off game Ronaldo would be one of the first picked every time.

Irwin is the best left back I’ve seen play for United in my 50 years supporting them.
Very much so.
He must have been a managers dream of a player - incredibly consistent, a proper team player and not injury prone.

Not someone who would criticise the tactics he simply got his head down and played to the best of his ability.
A true professional in every sense of the word.

First name I'd have down on any legends team would be Keane. Most influential player I've ever seen.

Losing to Comeback Winning!
Gregg
Irwin---Foulkes---Edwards---Byrne
Keane---Robson
Ronaldo---Charlton---Best
Law

Manager: Matt Busby
---

Perhaps the most legends among the legends.

Busby era ~ Byrne, Edwards, Gregg, Foulkes, Charlton... joined by Best and Law later
1980s ~ Robson
1990s ~ Keane and Irwin
2000s/modern ~ Ronaldo

Not sure who should be the captain of this legend lineup..? irrelevant, not important.

*Ya, I know Irwin played mostly as LB with us. Right or left, he's equally amazing at both. He's arguably our best fullbacks, can't omit.
*Don't care what Ronaldo do after he left, what he did being a United player is just too phenomenal, the best we've got in the modern era.

Swap Taibi with Andy Goram to make it United’s worst XIII.

I remember Goram joining us as a cover when he was many years past his sell by date, but I don't remember him getting many games, and definitely not making the sort of mistake Taibi did against Southampton(?).

I agree he would be a worthy addition though.

Ah sorry - I thought that was just a typo! Are you suggesting Andy was a little overweight?
When Rangers goalkeeper Andy Goram was revealed to be mildly schizophrenic, quick-witted fans chanted this to the tune of ‘Guantanamera’: “Two Andy Gorams / There’s only two Andy Gorams”

Thanks - I never knew that. Nice chant!

On a complete tangent (well, it's about a chant, and about goalkeepers at least), I remember United playing away at Spurs. Early on in the game, when Paul Robinson made a good save, the Spurs fans started chanting "England, England's number one ...". Well England's number one shipped 4 goals, but the fun started when the United keeper got injured late on and, having used all their subs, John O'Shea took the jersey. Before the end he had time to pull of a decent save, cue the United fans chanting "Ireland, Ireland's number one ...". Made me smile (and to be fair to the Spurs fans, they seemed to enjoy the joke too).

When people talk of United legends why does Johnny (Jackie) Carey never get a mention?
