But you’re just describing a high foot.

you really need to explain why it isn’t just a high foot when there isn’t contact. The ref doubling down in his mistake doesn’t mean much. If High foot is always reckless then there’s no need to categorise it as high foot.
If it’s not just a high foot then the contact alone for the pen is ridiculous anyway.

If he made contact with the attacker then fine but he clearly doesn’t even do that.
What gives it away was how long it took VAR to look over it imo.
Heres the law. It’s hidden under indirect free kicks

An indirect free kick is awarded if a player ... plays in a dangerous manner. Playing in a dangerous manner is any action that, while trying to play the ball, threatens injury to someone (including the player himself) and includes preventing a nearby opponent from playing the ball for fear of injury."

that fits last night to a T.
Where is high foot mentioned in the rules of the game?

He turns his head to try and get the header towards goal and did? He doesn’t pull back at all
You may be right on that. He gets to the ball first and it doesn’t really impact his ability to play the ball. I don’t know how anybody can argue that raising your foot so high you nearly kick somebody in the face isn’t reckless though. Which is covered by the rules. As I initially said, it’s the consistency with which the rules that are applied that is the issue. In isolation I think that’s a penalty.

He was offside? So we got the offside graphic for the Maguire onside but not the Rashford offside? That’s weird.
No he was not offside. They checked it and decided not to give the pen because they didnt think it was a pen

No, because doing that in that situation couldn’t be anything other than reckless.
Not sure I really comprehend your thoughts process.
Sanchez ploughing into Jesus the other night is reckless, the keeper last night sliding into Rashford is reckless (offside or not), someone instinctively trying to clear a ball from over their head is not reckless for me, especially when McT doesn't move towards the ball, yet the attacker does.
If anything looking back on it you could actually say the attacker instigated the contact.

Preaching to the choir here. It should be feet only.

That's the only thing that matters. His shoulder, head, whatever means nothing if he doesn't move his feet.

That's the only true advantage

Vinicius has gained a clear advantage here. His head is so clearly ahead of the defender and he can use his head to score. He's a good few Cms offside. Even a millimetre can be the difference in getting enough contact on a shot to direct it goalward and not off the post and out . There should be zero controversy with vini jr being offside here at all.

I agree they were reckless. That doesn’t mean swinging your foot at head height isn’t reckless. It’s even more reckless when you don’t even clear the ball. He clearly isn’t in control of his movement as he doesn’t even clear the ball and he could just have easily kicked the guy in the face. You need to check your understanding of what the word reckless means.

Not giving a foul is absolutely bollocks because he's clearly impeded Rashford by coming out, swinging his leg at the ball (missing it) and forcing Rashford to jump the tackle to not risk having his ankle broken. That means that Rashford has to actively decide not to jump the tackle, smash the legs of the keeper and go down for it to be an infringement.

I mean, you can call it obstruction if you want, but it would still be reviewable by VAR because it would've been a red card even if they sanctioned it with an indirect free kick.

Just watching the end of Bournemouth game...that is a joke. You could see from first replay Rodriguez head is offside and it takes 5 minutes to work out. :houllier:

They need to be putting cameras on the gantry for every 10 yard strip of turf as they seemingly can't work it out quickly from the titled angles seemingly.

Listening to Morrison on Sky Sports, they gave the goal with a green line and the line didn't look right. He then said via the video of the VAR room, that they were arguing and then eventually gave a red line for offside.

Clubs voting against the automated offsides used in the recent Women's World cup was an idiotic decision. In a way they've brought it on themselves as the current technology clearly isn't good enough to make quick decisions.

Something to do with the Nike Premier League ball not being used with the technology. But yeah, it worked in the World Cup (Men's and Women's) and it works in the Champions League. Stupid not to implement it, in the richest league.

Said it in the other thread. Newcastle player is holding his left leg. Which you can clearly see never gets remotely touched on.

PL is just watching and doing nothing about it. We know which teams get decisions and which teams don’t.

How is Lascelle not off?
First situation, Wolves player was 1v1 with the keeper if not for the obvious foul. Must be counted as denying a goal scoring chance.
Second situation, wrestles Wolves player in the box, denying him the chance to control the ball.

Feels like the guys in the VAR rooms really have different ways of thinking.
These guys were desperate to side with the ref regardless, some other are desperate to make themselves important, like digging up stuff with Manchester United star player Casemiro, stuff that were worth red card for him, but not for most other players doing the very same thing. There is not even a touch consistency from game to game.

VAR team will be stood down right ? Or is that only when the dipper cnuts are impacted
Wolves should protest heavily.

I've watched 3 of their games now and they've had some pretty dodgy decisions go against them.

Could have had a pen against Utd.
Terrible penalty given to Luton against them.
Then you have that today, which was a disgrace.

Watching the final, and the difference between the two sports is night and day. The respect between players, between the players and ref over significant decisions, the professionalism of the ref and the review system, they really have got it down to a T and it's refreshing to watch a sporting content without theatrics and controversy dominating the game.

They drew the lines in the wrong place something that according to Mike Dean is impossible. Apparently it's not impossible then. Makes you wonder how many times it has happened before and noone has noticed.

They watch all these replays, in super duper slo-mo and they still can't see the player going down before any contact is made.

PL refs are as cnutish as they are stupid.
That’s a penalty. Although what’s annoying is us not getting one for an identical foul on Sancho when we played Newcastle last season.

It’s the stupidity of the “clear and obvious” wording. It makes the VAR completely overthink the situation. Rather than thinking is it a penalty or not, they are thinking is it a penalty and, if they don’t consider that it is, is it clear and obvious.

Here, we can all see there’s not enough contact for the player to go down like that but there is a tiniest bit of contact. That probably was enough for VAR to say it wasn’t clear and obvious enough to overturn, although we all think it’s the wrong decision.

Get rid of “clear and obvious” and stop trying to protect referees. Getting the right decision should be all that matters.

That match was a disgrace, Ronaldo got assaulted too. Was bizarre the ref seemed scared to give a pen.

The angle doesn't matter for how the line is drawn, they're choosing the best angle to identify which player and what bodypart to use.
Surprising that it should take so long in the Bournemouth game deciding which angle and frame to draw lines from

I think the problem for a game like the Wolves one is that they would have had these terrible decisions even if VAR was not there. It has just added to the agony of it. You would hope that VAR would correct the poor or difficult decisions but they don't seem to be getting a lot of the obvious ones sorted out. It is a little worrying for me that with 10 different replays they still can't get it right.

So would most teams, Liverpool could have that Spurs goal flagged offside. Utd could have had the goal against Arsenal allowed.

I don't think it would only apply to Wolves, they were shafted yesterday and questions need to be asked why a shite penalty for little/no contact was given to Newcastle. But, a situation with even more contact wasn't given at the other end. Sky won't even acknowledge it or put it in the highlights, but are adamant during the game that the Newcastle one is a penalty.

This "clear and obvious error" wording needs to go, if it's wrong it's wrong and the VAR room should be able to tell the referee that.

I can think of a couple of game deciding decisions against us just this year. We lost 3 games because of wierd, crazy decisions like that. Why that happens to us is for people like refs to answer.

Knew as soon as it was Oliver. He’ll find ANYTHING to justify his extra payments from City owners.

Michael Oliver, the UAE paid ref, calls for a nothing penalty for City. Seriously how does this guy still ref in our league? It's a disgrace.
