Probably time has come to re-introduce Varane now. Lindelof is playing badly recently, on a consistent basis.

I am the first person to comment on this guy, the first!!

I always say it, he is the master of playing shit quietly. He is always there doing nothing. And him and Maguire have zero connection after all these years.

That third goal shouldn’t happen with better defending before we even talk about Onanas part.

Same old story. Gets by with not much criticism because he's so inoffensive in every single way. Not passionate, not physical, not emotional, not proactive, not involved, not anything positive generally. He was genuinely the most uninvolved player on the pitch (along with McTominay) but 'didn't make a mistake' is what he's usually excused by some blinded posters.

What the feck was he actually trying to do here?! Moving out from his central position to cover a potentially one-in-ten chance genius through ball..into the channels?

No, as per usual he passed off his defensive duties in the most important part of the pitch to suddenly be aggressive into no man's land. He really sold a big fat massive one to Mainoo there. The 'funny' thing is even if that ball did arrive into the channels, he wouldn't have done a single fecking thing. TIme and time again, he backed away and let the opposition have the ball. There were at least 2-3 times he could have nicked the ball or got a better clearance but he just stood off. With Shaw going walkies, instead of stepping up and trying to cover that side, he just did nothing.

Him and Shaw are a nightmare on that left side in pressing, covering and defending. Absolute wet fart.

Lindelof was positioned too far across because neither Shaw nor Garnacho was tracking their right-back so he had to come across. If Shaw and Garnacho had each selected a player to mark then there wouldn't have been an issue. Throughout this match and during previous matches, Garnacho has been a liability defensively, he is often too late to react to the opposing right-back making a forward run. In recent years our wide forwards have cost us tons of goals by failing to track. Garnacho has at least made an effort unlike Rashford.

Ultimately, the goal was down to Mainoo not getting close enough that he could block the shot.

I thought Lindelof was very fortunate that Icardi was marginally offside for the disallowed goal before half-time.

It's 'fine' that Lindelof was aware of the potential overload but to get on the wrong side of the ball from his position is amateur. He got his body position all messed up and for no reason as he could see the entire side of that pitch in front of him but decided to come across so far that a ball was played PAST him from the inside.

It wasn't a ball over the defence because we were stretched or we were pressing high, the ball was played passed him because he got himself into no man's land as he was completely unaware of his surroundings. 9/10 times in a match it's not a midfielder's responsibility to start running backwards from the middle of his own pitch to track a runner because his centre back vacated his space. Lindelof practically cleared the runway and invited that pass. There's absolutely no justification for trying to over-anticipate and over-commit to such a low probability danger and pass in that area of the pitch. There's a basic rule to defending and that's get goal side with both Shaw and Garnacho already getting in front of their players.

Lindelof fecked up massively with a low iq move, not sure how you could defend that.

Edit: just saw your last line. Yes, it looked really close as if he had played Icardi onside.

It’s been a problem for some time but this evening it was worse than normal. Our left side was wide open from time to time, which drags out the CB, but for the goal Lindelof didn’t need to go that wide. It looked like Mainoo had his player under control but the run and pass were just perfect.
For the narrow offside goal, I think it was Maguire who marked Icardi.

Atrocious defending today like on most occasions. He needs binning. Also taking sweden national team to gutter since getting the captaincy.

He looked shaky but he had to cover the whole left side. Shaw was absolutely abysmal and left Linde to do two jobs, which again forced Maguire to cover more.

Does anyone in the media ever criticize him? He's the biggest fraud at the club.

Ten Hag needs to sort out his problems with Varane and get him back in the side.

80m pound signing Antony would have been a flop at 8m. Sancho cost nearly the same and has about 4,5 good performances for us in his 2,5 years at the club.
Dvdb cost us about 35m and i don´t know if he has a performance better than average even once? Onana cost about 40m and have hands firm as a pair of floppy tits.
Mount cost us about 60m? Not even as good as that Austrian guy we loaned last year.

There is some ultra stiff competition for the title biggest fraud at our club, and i don´t think Victor is even close to the top.

Yeah, says it all really, about our squad building. Eye watering amounts of waste.

The thing is, he should be. None of the guys you listed have been here for 7 years. And Lindeloff wasn't Cheap either by the way, He was our most expensive center back ever when he signed.

Man Utd 2:1 Chelsea
The Chelsea goal epitomises Lindelof. The most passive defender I have ever seen. Hopefully him and Evans don’t see any more minutes.

Lindelof was great last season but he’s been really bad this season. Like back to his debut season bad. Such a passive, scared, defender.

He's a massive pussy. Evans should be ahead of him in the pecking order.

Offered nothing in possession, attack or defensively. Got extremely lucky when he slipped, played a high line and got caught out several times, bailed by Shaw/Dalot and then to top it off, played like a scaredy cat giving all the space and time for the Palmer goal. That's in only 45 mins.

As usual though, he will have some deluded defenders saying he 'wasn't at fault, it was a perfect strike, Onana should have done better', suspiciously just like the 3rd Galatasaray goal.

Varane has been horrendous this year but if this is the Lindelof we're getting, put the Swede back in his rightful place on the bench. He needs to be held accountable for his performances and he's bringing none of his supposedly qualities and is once again being outshone by Maguire. Shaw is twice the player at centre back.

He's been here for 6 fecking years and continues to flatter to deceive.

Another player that has stayed here longer than he should have. Needs to be shipped off

An absolute nothing player, hate watching him disappear from any tackle, challenge or header.

But he’s a good squad player, never complains (perhaps because he doesn’t like confrontations), good enough for 3rd choice etc etc

finally you’re all waking up from this Swedish matrix

We benefited a lot more from having Shaw’s pace alongside Maguire.

Has to go. You can't be a reactive defender when we are so open in defensive transitions. Name one top team who plays a reactive defender like this guy.

No wonder Sweden misses out on the Euros having him as a captain.

We can't even complain anymore. We know what he is. He has to go in the summer. Ridiculous he's been here this long.

No wonder Sweden misses out on the Euros having him as a captain.

We could've had prime Maldini instead of Lindelöf and we'd still be nowhere near qualifying. Having him as captain is a great summation of just how shit we are though.

He is consistently worse than Maguire this season. Consistently. This is not good enough, he actually doesn’t deserve a starting spot now. If we can’t use Varane, then it’s better to play Shaw or Evans as LCB, not Lindelof, going forward

ten Hag wants to play attacking and high intensity pressing like Klopp at Liverpool. To do so, he needs proactive players who is eager to win the ball back not ball watching because during our attacking transition, we are likely to have most of our players going offensive mode which will leave us vulnerable in defense. And that's why we need proactive and aggressive players to win the ball back. Lindelof is the opposite of proactive, he's passive. The goal we conceded is another example of being passive. Lindelof won't be anywhere near in Pep's City and Klopp's Liverpool defenders' list.

Yep, all this. He basically cannot play in this system against any decent attacking outfit. Which therefore means unless we’re playing Luton, Sheff Utd, palace or Everton he can’t play.

Back off, back off, back off, put arms behind back, back off some more. Oh wait they’ve already taken the shot?!

People calling for Shaw to be there instead - did you miss the second goal that he meekly gave them?
