So far in his career Lindelöf has made a lot of good choices. Beginning in his native Sweden with third-tier side Västerås Sportklubb, it was there that teammate Robin Blomme first saw his potential. “He was one of several youngsters that were added to the first team at that time,” Blomme, the editor-in-chief of SoloCalcio.se, told Yahoo Sport UK.

“He was from the start a really outgoing person, not shy at all. He got along great with everybody. I like and liked him a lot. There were a lot of laughs in the dressing room thanks to Victor.”

Then just 17 years old, it was more than just a precocious talent that caught his teammate’s eye. “He was very determined,” Blomme said. “He gave his all in every training, and often put in extra time in the gym. He became very athletic, and that helped him to adapt to senior football. I remember a player that was really good for his age and played like a veteran senior player.”

Background...

Having started out with hometown club Västerås, helping them win promotion to Sweden's second tier, Lindelöf joined Benfica in December 2011, aged 17. He won the 2015 UEFA European Under-21 Championship with Sweden, but senior Eagles appearances were rare – and a move to Middlesbrough was mooted – before injuries thrust him into the first team in early 2016. He shone, stepping up to become a senior international, and winning the first of two Portuguese titles that season.

Playing style...

Regarded as a ball-playing centre-back, he is a big man but skilful, and while he can put in crunching tackles, his timing is exceptional – in 46 appearances for Benfica last season, he was booked just once. Pacy, he has been tried out as a right-back at international level, but his natural position is in the middle. He has been nicknamed 'Iceman', Lindelöf (pronounced 'linda-love') explaining: "It was one of the coaches and a few team-mates who gave me the nickname. I think it's because I'm pretty calm and steady."

Zlatan and Henke Larsson had already achieved legend status when they joined United so it's gonna be strange to see a regular Swedish guy turn out for United.

It's not pronounced Linda-love at all....
We watch enough Swedish kids programs while growing up in Norway to consider us pretty fluent in Swedish, especially when drunk.
The ö is pronounced roughly like how brits pronounce the u in feck... you know what i mean :)

“The club relies on volunteers and doesn’t have much money at all as we’re based in a poor area of the city.

“We have all been so excited that Victor has gone on to sign for United and we were getting some much-needed funds, but now this.

“We’re so sad and don’t understand why anyone would want to do such a thing.”

It's a funny one that. Technically they don't cover it as usually it is done by the claimant and is a criminal offence, but not sure how it works if it is someone unknown doing it more as an act of vandalism. If they cannot prove the latter they might not be covered.

That's awful. Can imagine they had plans to use that £75,000 to improve the facilities, and now they're looking at rebuilding. Shame

It is a shame and as I said above. Arson is a nasty business to either prove you didn't do it or who actually did.
