And i guess we would pay Osimhen's wages on top? Which would negate the 5mil you think Napoli would pay off Ronaldo's salary.

Which would effectively mean that we would be swapping them for the season, with both clubs continuing paying their players salary.

That may be a good deal for all.

Napoli would benefit commercially from having CR7. United would have a player that "should" be far more capable that Ronaldo is at this stage of his career.
Mainly it would just be a way of deferring payment to next summer for someone we could do with immediately. Would represent most of the budget for next summer though, in all likelihood. Unless someone buys the club and wipes off the debt.

Mad as it sounds, it's still the one that makes most sense of the various rumours going (Atletico, Chelsea, Sporting, Saudi).

Rumours on Twitter that Glazers want Ronaldo to stay. I have no idea.

Napoli want 100m so on top of the 220ish m we've already spent means... Zero chance.
From what people are saying the 100mn will come from next years budget because this year would be a loan with an obligation to buy next season.

That deal is never going to happen.

Osimhen hasn’t done anything to go up in value outside of transfer price inflation.
Napoli went nuts and paid 75M for him, he hasnt even reached 20 goals per season. His best being last season with 18 goals (14 in serie A). I'd say even the 75M Napoli paid for him is way too much.

All this considering he's playing in a league where Arnautovic scored 14 goals and Tammy Abraham 17 goals, and god damn Ciro Immobile 27 goals.

It's frankly hard to evaluate how good he is or how good he can be. The best possible move would be swap loans with a buy option, but that would be mad for Napoli - maybe their president is mad enough and is suckered in like the Chelsea owner almost was, by the mere fact of having the most recognisable footballer on the planet in his team.

It's annoying Napoli paid so much to sign Osimhen in the first instance. He's a player far more suitable for what we want to do here but the financials involved to get it done would be insane, especially if they want us to pay the bulk of Ronaldo's wages.

If we could find a way to fudge the numbers by taking whatever salary subsidies we're proposed to pay for Ronaldo off the Osimhen transfer fee then that might be a deal worth pursuing. I just can't imagine we'd be able to sort the intracacies of two separate deals like that in the time remaining of this window though.

Why does the loan have to be an obligation? Surely, a loan with an option is better for both parties (unless Napoli are actively seeking to get rid of Oshimen).

If it works out, we spend the cash next summer and exercise our option. If not, Napoli would be happy to have him back. Lot’s of examples of players doing well in Italy even though it didn’t work out for them in the Premier League (Tammy, Lukaku etc).

Now 120 M sounds ludicrous but if the option is around 90-100 M, then we should go for it.

P.S. I’m not suggesting Oshimen is worth 90-100M euros mind. But seems to be the going rate for top rated talent nowadays.

There's literally 0 benefit for them in a loan with no obligation unless we pay a crazy stupid loan fee + his full salary.

They're not looking to improve a player in a loan arrangement, they might be considering selling him for 'feck you money'.
If it doesnt work (and no obligation) we just ruined their product nobody is touching him at that value again.

They will want to bank a win. The obligation would be there only if we are cash constrained or we would prefer to show the transfer fee in our books from next year onwards; they would basically do us a solid.

There is a talk of West Ham wanting AWB. Swap him for Antonio and we are good for short term. Antonio can be our Haller profile wise

option 1:

Pay Ronaldo full salary, keep an half arsed player who isn’t suited to ETH style or

Option 2: Loan swap Players with option to buy for 100-120m, Napoli continue to pay their player salary and we continue to pay Ronaldo salary. But we get rid of a player who doesn’t want to be here and get someone more suited to ETH style and also gives us enough time to judge him. For Napoli, they can get Ronaldo, someone they could only dream about!!

Napoli won't accept anything that doesn't have an obligation to buy.

I completely agree. I know there are some people adamant that he isn't good enough (I'm sure they all have legitimate reasons for believing this), but having watched how we have played, in pre-season and our first 4 games, he fits the profile of player we need at #9 to a tee. Young, works hard, scores goals, good with his back to goal, good in the air, quick. Maybe there is an abundance of players who match this profile that I'm unaware of, but I'd struggle to name any that don't currently play for one of our rivals.

I don't think this deal happens, because it honestly feels like it would be too good to be true. We get a player that fits our needs with the fee deferred for a year, while solving the Ronaldo problem, which in itself, feels like it's reached addition by subtraction territory.
Spot on. Pace, header, work-rate, plus getting rid of Ronaldo .. This deal will give everything we crave but is just too good to be true, given the owners and management's incompetence.

First media reported 100m euros + Cristiano, now i have been reading that the total value of a potential transfer would be 100m and that they value Ronaldo around 20m euros - so that would mean 80m cash and 20m in Ronaldo. IF that is true, then we should make this happen without hesitating. I have been a fan of Osimhen for 3 years now and he keeps impressing me and my close friends that are big Napoli fans (we are often sitting together watching both Man UTD and Napoli).

Osimhen has it all basically - pace (longer runs), great finisher with both feet, extremely strong in the air, physically a monster great movement, strong and very good positioning. Dribbling is very effective but he is not the showman (Neymar). He is also very young, i believe 23y (born December 1998) and has already proven himself both in France and now in Italy.

Stats:
Ligue 1 - 27 games 13 goals 5 assists
Seria A - 54 games 26 goals 9 assists
Nigeria - 23 games 15 goals (Cant find stats about assists)
= 104 matches 54 goals 14 assist

Injuries:
Had some problems with his shoulder when he was 18 years old that kept him away twice from playing, first one was 2018 and he didn't play for 8 weeks. He then played for 2 years without any problems but then again, 2020 in November he suffered the same injury again and he didn't play for 6-7 weeks. He made a small surgery that fixed the problem and has not had the issue since then. Was also away from football 6 weeks in 20211 when he got the Corona virus and same year in November he got a cheekbone fracture and Corona again during his rehabilitation.

Other:
- He has scored 8 out 10 penalties.
- Plays for Nigeria so he might miss matches due to the Africa Cup of Nations.
- Speaks fluent English
- 26 game winning goals
- 15 headers

The best deal for us would be if we could send Ronaldo their way on a permanent deal and get a 1 year loan with us paying his salary and with an options to buy for 80m euro.

I like this take, always found it curious how Martinez is seen as some kinda Suarez regen
Lautaro is a poacher and that’s it, a short & bulky sort of fox-in-the-box striker. As for the comparison with Abraham, you can clearly see Osimhen has another gear in his engine and I am pretty confident that extra gear would serve the pinball-style PL game much better than the slower, tactical game he has to play in Italy right now.

Yeah this was basically a hail mary by Mendes. United aren't cooperating, so this isn't happening

Mendes not only got to get Ronaldo a new club but he has to line up a replacement for Utd as well!

Mendes will have to fork out some of his own cash if he want's this transfer to happen. No way United are meeting those demands for someone they can keep on the bench and still put in all their media stuff

130m for Osimhen is extremely bad business so we will do it.

A friend of mine, who regularly watch the Italian league, describes him as a monster who will battle for every ball with defenders, pacy, is very good in the box, can finish with both feet and is very dangerous in the air. His opinion on the deal is that we will get the better team with Osimhen than Napoli with Ronaldo. Basically, the same opinion I have about him but he watched a lot more Napoli games. But he also said that Di Marzio, who first broke this story, is not as reliable as he was before.

There’s surely no way this happens but Osimhen is probably the player I’d want most as a striker. His play style kind of reminds me of Louis Saha in that he’s very well rounded in all attributes. He’s definitely not as technical or silky as Martial so I think those two battling for our no.9 would be good competition depending on what we needed against a specific opponent - I think they’d actually also make quite a good pair up top.

A forward line of Martial, Osimhen, Rashford, Sancho, Antony would give us lots of options and we’ve still got Elanga and Garnacho to bed in too.

But…..never gonna happen.

He's not worth over 60m, even in this mad money market. Massively unconvinced by him. He's got time on his side, but a deal north of 100m would be very worth deriding.

A striker of his quality and potential would never be cheap, unless you're getting him from a club who are desperate for cash.

Absolutely this. Guy is good and i would welcome his signing especially that he seems as ETH's type of forward but nothing screams world class or potential world class around him.
The fact that Napoli overpayed him is their problem. At current market 40-50 mil euros would be his realistic price and i would not mind us paying that. 80 mil-100 mil? Come on
