Vinicius Junior

I'm the same and I can't shake it. He obviously put outsanding numbers last season and seems to continue (especially in the CL because in la liga, we've seen players like Sarabia having comparable performance sheets and he's obviously not a top player) but I just can't see him as an elite player and feel his good spell could end at any time. It's just a feeling though, there's no tangible explanation. The WC will be a good start since he's been pretty disapointing with his NT so far, then the big test will be how he fares in a different sytstem without Benzema.

Comparable to last season? No, that never happened. Sarabia's best was his last spell at Sevilla with 12/5 (G/A). Vinicius had 17/10 last season and looking equally dangerous this season too.

Not to mention I have never seen three guys man marking the former.

Im not questioning his talent in relation to his age. I simply wouldnt call him a top top player just yet. Give it two more seasons.
He's undoubtedly a top top player? He's as good of a ball carrier/dribbler with his pace and ability as anyone in the world. He's been producing elite productivity the past year as well. His pace is matched by very very few around. Defensively he is excellent with his work rate, pressing, etc.

Sarabia's last season with Sevlla was 13 (or 12 depending on sources)/13, I thought it was a bit closer but it's not that far off.

In terms of opportunities for ethnic minorities and their general treatment you mean?

Yes, which countries would say provide the best examples of inclusivity, equal opportunities and integration?

I acknowledge the ethnic minority will differ from country to country, but that shouldn’t be of significance.

I think given that he’s a significant and contributing factor in the Real Madrid attack, and has been for a couple of seasons, that it’s a stretch to not see him as a top player.

I do think we need a bigger window to truly judge him, however. If his form was to suddenly nose dive and never be recovered, would he still be considered a top player? I don’t expect that to happen though, as he seems to be going from strength to strength.

I stand corrected. I had a quick look at the numbers and when I saw the 5 it was corresponding to games played in another competition, not assists.

Not really though, he only started to be an important factor for Real Madrid last season, before that he was mainly here to pretend he's a danger on the left wing but he was far from being efficient.

The huge improvement he displayed over a couple of months is one of the things that make me say "that's a bit strange".

He is a top player as currently he's one of the best in his position in a team that just won their league and champions league with him being a very important part of our attack. It's the same with Haaland people were having doubts about him while he was at Dortmund but it was pretty clear his forma and goals weren't an accident or simply luck, he didn't become a top player the moment he signed for City as he was already that good.

The comparison with Haaland doesn't make any sense, it's 2 very different situations. Those who doubted Haaland did probably because of the league he was playing in (despite him having comparable results in the CL), he was dominant pretty much anywhere he went for 3 seasons. Vinicius was just an improved headless chicken until last season. What's strange with Vinicius is that he became very good almost overnight so the future will tell if he really improved drasticaly or if he was overperforming (even if the eye test obviously shows he got better, the question is how much better).

Vinicius has also performed in the Champions League and before that what he was lacking was his end product and decision making. To be honest I had little hope in him improving to this degree but he already had the tools. I guess he's still suceptible to regress in form or have a bad patch, like every player does, but he's already one of the best players in the world in his position.

Vinicius turned 22 this summer

Just saying

I love Vini, he is absolutely top class and I think him and Neymar will be a strong why Brazil wins the WC in Qatar

Do they work well together? I haven't watched Brazil for years but presumably Neymar will play down the middle either as AM or CF right?

Not working amazing so far (even if it was pretty interesting during the game against Ghana) but it could be lethal if Vicinius make the right runs. Neymar plays pretty freely but mostly on the left behind Vinicius in a left wing/midfielder mix.

It's a fairly new starting XI for Brazil since Vinicius was far from beeing a guaranteed starter until the start of 2022. I think it was the 6th game he started for them, the 3rd with Neymar in the team. Is record is pretty much blank with his NT so this WC will actually be very important for him.

So he's sort of no.10 but in a free role and goes deep and wide?

i saw the match v Ghana and they were amazing together - had telepathic understanding of each other’s movement and the ability to deliver the correct ball effortlessly

Interesting, if they can make it work then they have to be in with a good shout of winning the tournament. I could see Argentina and Brazil both going a long way.

The potential is huge but they had a tendancy to end up in the same area, it could really be a lethal duo with a couple of extra games toghether though. Snce the team is tipped to the left side, Vinicius could make more runs behind the center backs instead of sticking to his side as much as what he's doing now.

All the talk is of Mbappe and Haaland as the future superstars but this guy is up there too.

He's not. It's probably his 1st very good game with Brazil in a total debacle. He was nothing special in the group stage when he had the chance to carry the team without Neymar (and is mostly underwelming with Brazil).

He's also just "good" with Real Madrid in La liga this season (which is often the case when Benzema isn't playing). He's a very good player, but not "up there".

Says the PSG super fan.
No offense intended

I can give you the name of many players outside of PSG that are "up there", but if one player is for Real Madrid it would be Benzema, or Modric (even if he's getting older). Vinicius is a very good team player, his composure got much better in the past 2 seasons but he's a level below up there.

He’s only 22 by the way. By 25 I think he will be up there. His dribbling is sensational.

Yeah Vini is still lacking in some assets of his game.

Composure, too often where he is a headless chicken. Mainly when it comes to finishing, but at times also wanting too much and playing against himself and the team. While he did massively improve, it is still too big a part of his game. He is often great up until that final finish and then it just goes wrong, not clinical enough like Mbappe (yes I know he has his fair share of misses as well).

Ball control, doesn’t have that silk touch like a Neymar does. Then again I’d consider it much better than Haaland for example. Dunno if this might be concentration on his part.

Still has a lot of aspects of his game to improve to level up. Though I would say that I wouldn’t trade him for Haaland (despite the different positions).

Valverde say hi?

According to toni kroos, valverde is in top 3 players in europe.

Yeah, this season Valverde is hands down Real's best player. I had mostly last season in mind when talking about Benzema or Modric. This is not true this season.

It’s actually insane. Like the original tweet says, Vinicius is genuinely getting abused week in week out by fans, and even ganged up on by opposition players.

Don’t expect anything less from Klopp. He is usually on the money with this kind of stuff

Fantastic by Klopp, albeit completely mental we’re still in this day and age having to highlight and admire such responses
Klopp looked genuinely puzzled that the journalist could ask a question like that.
