Were Liverpool that good in the 80's? (from the newbies)

I know a LFC fan who think Liverpool are the biggest supported club in Europe.

Strange lot. Deluded? myth makers? or just plain thick?

i know a United fan who thinks his side is Englands most successful?

deluded? myth maker? or just plain thick?

Were they that "good"? Yes they were ..

Was Bjorn Borg a "good" tennis player? Yes he was ..
Was Cliff Thorburn a "good" snooker player? Yes he was ..

Were these successful sportsmen "good" to watch?? WERE THEY feck!!

Liverpool stank their way to success. They made the present day Chelsea team look relatively swashbuckling! Truly awful grinding football! Dirty bastards too!! The backpass rule was amended because of them ff`sake!

Pah!!!

We were superb

Our side including Barnes, Beardsley and Aldridge was probably the best attacking side I've seen in this country. Passing and movement coupled with superb individual ability

thats what i remember most about liverpool in the 80's

Let's be honest, yes, they were during the late 70s/80s. Very good. They dominated like United did in the 90s, they could be very entertaining and yet grind out the one-nillers when necessary. I've supported United for more than 40 years and those were truly bleak days............

With all due respect, there's no contest. We won 4 european cups in the space of 7 years. United have won 2 EVER. So the levels of dominance arent even close.

You've not seen many then. ;)

Seriously, Liverpool were not a swashbuckling gung-ho side of the type that epitomises attacking, but they were very efficient. Good at what they did, but at times were very negative. I think that part started under Dalglish when they would regularly be in the attacking corner and gradually pass the ball back to Bruce Dropalot.

At times they were good to watch just for the sheer efficiency of their passing and some of the players were excellent to watch; e.g. Dalglish, Barnes, Johnston

I remember it as Rush, pen 89 too... but having gone over this with sutty, it appears Rush never took penalties

Don't know how they got us thinking that... probably just another example of the power of evil to influence the mind

couldn't have been Rush, he didn't score against United ever until 1992, when it actually mattered to us! The he scored once more, can't remember him scoring more than two versus us though

I never get involved in this pointless 'which is the best team/club' question, DJS. It always leads to the same circular argument and increasingly bitter and silly posts.

I think the fans expecting too much would relate with betting. Not only that, there are glory hunters too.

No one would hate to see their team win trophies, but I'll agree with the fact that some (you read it 'some', you understand it as 'a lot') people are asking for too much for a club's success. Just because a club is worldly reknown doesn't mean it'll win everything.
