Retires at 35 years old and is without a club this summer. What a career he has had. Should have won the Ballon d'or imho.

Truly end of era. RVP, Robben and Sneijder all retiring in one summer.

I agree with that in 2010- treble winner, world cup finalist with numerous match winning displays. Should really have been in the top 3 at least

We should have got him in 2009 when Real were putting him and Robben for sale. One of Fergies biggest mistakes. Those two would have covered the big gap Tevez and Ronaldo had left.

Should have won the balondor in 2010.

Fantastic player fell of a cliff at the tail end of his career but was a joy to watch.

One of the biggest myths in football that he should have won the Ballon d’or in 2010. Was absolutely obvious to everyone at the time that Messi was the best player on the planet by a mile. People just look back and see how much he won and what he did with Holland that year and say he should have won the Ballon d’or, but that's bollocks.

    Cracking player though.
