This is... odd?

Considering but for City Arsenal would be in a shout of winning the entire thing, and considering that Citys rise coincided with them taking a lot of Arsenals best players which effectively really hurt their biggest legends evers legacy.

Very peculiar to **** for sports washing FC when they contributed heavily to your irrelevance.
Yes I love it. I love their football, the way they manage their players and transfers. Arsenal the way being managed for the past 15 years were nowhere close to win anything. The players if not City will go to other big clubs anyway. Our irrelevance has nothing to do with City.

Do people not know AC Milan had already 2 European cups and 10 league titles before the 80’s ?
So what? City had 2 league titles, 4 FA Cups and 1 Cup winners Cup before the takeover. Why should 10 Serie As be a cutoff? Is it fair to say Napoli have no history? Is it fair to say United were shite before SAF?

Reckon City have spent closer to £10bn on the project, all in. It goes way deeper than just transfer fees.

Won’t disagree that we’ve been incredibly wasteful and amateur in our spending though.
Point being, the money we’ve spent over the past decade, we should be more than able to comfortably challenge for PL and CL every season, instead of moaning and crying for being outspent/outplayed by our rivals.

Fact remain we’ve spent far more than Real Madrid, Barca, PSG, Liverpool, Bayern, Chelsea etc over the past decade too. They all won multiple titles/trophies (and even CL), and were able to compete with City and beat them on some occasions.

Some really don’t seem to know how loaded City are. Maybe it’s easier for people believe it’s all above board and that the gap is closer as it gives the illusion that the oil clubs can be stopped.
So if it’s all illegal why dont the other 19 PL teams get together and sue City and the PL? What are they waiting for? If the evidence is so obvious then why haven’t PL teams gone on strike?
The truth is that everything in football - contracts, agents, sponsors, accounting - has some level of shadiness.

no team should be allowed to be owned by a country or an oligarch.
Isn’t United owned by an oligarch? If yes, how come United fans don’t fully boycott all matches?
If no - then what’s the difference between the current owners and Abramovic?

People arguing that we have a higher spend than City must be in cuckoo land. Most of their costs are under the table backhanders given to agents and their families, with their pretend sponsors also helping out.
Shush these wet behind the ears City fans aren't meant to realise they are sucking life out of the game with underhand dealings

Is the point of Manchester City to give you guys something to talk about?

On the first page of the Football Forum there are 5 threads directly related to City, a club that are apparently an irrelevance to most Utd fans.

Was going to reply to some of the rubbish posted in here but decided not to waste my time.

Kind of cute seeing the non City fans licking their arse though.
Yeah the media have our rivals fans on board as their second team, brainwashed by the sportswashed what an utterly sad state of affairs

Was meant as a bit of light-hearted banter :)

Not really a new City fan by the way. First game was in 1974 so I grew up with us being completely turd and, from the early 90's onwards in particular, being completely overshadowed by our local rivals

OK I will respect you are a pre 2008 fan so what is your take on how shadily your club is ran and surely you can understand the cheating remark

Of course I can understand it. As you'd expect, I don't necessarily agree with it :-)

You'll have to understand that when I started supporting City we had won 1 European trophy, 2 leagues, 4 FA Cups and 1 League Cup. At the time this was an honours list that wasn't exactly a million miles away from the 'top' clubs in England at the time.

Then a period of Liverpool domination teally started thanks in no small part to money from Littlewoods.

City then entered a period of time where the club was run in an absolutely shocking manner for years, eventually leading to our slide down to the old 3rd Division.

At the same time as this, the PL came into being and our nearest & dearest neighbours (well, sort of!) were being run incredibly effectively and benefitted massively from the income the PL generated and started to dominate the domestic football scene.

So, money has always been a huge factor in the success of football clubs. Yes, our wealth has come about differently to most other clubs (although it might be worth reading about James W Gibson and Utd) but if we are now 'cheating' our way to success then that accusation should also be levelled (at least to some degree) to the other clubs who have periods of dominance in the English game should it not?

By the way, the old 3rd Division times were a great laugh in many ways but of course I wouldn't swap them for what we have now :)

What doesn't sit well with me is that there is a lot of false reporting in the media about how much you have spent, however know full well this media won't ever talk about under the table payments.

I also don't think you should compare your level of spending to someone like Blackburn under Walker. He was a guy who had the club at his heart not promoting an Arab state.

Spending alone doesn't get you where City are at the moment.
It's the combination of unlimited funds and excellent management. They have a clear style of play and buy good players that thrive in their system.
Once they win their first CL trophy, City will only get more attractive to the best talent and of course they have money to sign them.
Can't see that changing anytime soon.

I am sure Pep leaving won't have the same devasting impact on City as the retirement of SAF had for United.

With the whole ‘owned by a country’ thing, I do have some sympathy for your point of view. It’s quite difficult to prove such things though. Why is Abramovic an oligarch and Malcom Glazer not? There are no hard and fast definitions.
The oligarch expression doesn't just mean "very rich guy".
It's linked to having influence with influential people who run a state, typically Eastern systems like Russia.

Sorry, but anyone who doesn't want to admit that, whatever the factors involved, City play some fantastic football sort of sum things up on the Caf. They deserved to beat us by more than three goals and are now the finished article with the arrival of Halaand, in my mind. Even if we'd played as we did against Arsenal and Liverpool, we'd have lost. They well win the PL and the CL and I'd been a bit surprised if they don't match our treble this year or next (or both). they could quit easily win the lot.

They have players both in the starting XI and well beyond who do what the manager wants week after week (unlike, seemingly, ours). They work hard so must train hard, they look much fitter than us and most other sides and have all the skills to excite their fans. I don't think our fans would be complaining much if their owners had bought us instead and installed Pep. As I say, you can complain about where the money originates but that doesn't change the facts.

It might be interesting to see what happens when Pep leaves, but, again unlike us, you can bet they are already planning for it. My guess right now would be they'll approach Arteta unless the bottom falls out of Arsenal's game plan in the intervening years

There is an inevitability about City now that is like watching paint dry.
Haaland is not just the cherry on top of the most expensive cake in history. He’s more like a Teflon cow catcher on the front of a bullet train.
They have a squad that ensures any injuries are covered.
They have 100 million pound players on the bench.
With what feels like a bottomless pit of funds, when will it end?
There are no limits applied to City.
It’s like flicking through a Panini album where all the stickers have been bought. It’s there, it looks impressive but where is the joy? Where is the excitement?
Baldy is just a good engineer that has been given all the correct parts to build a machine. Running on limitless grade A fuel.
The Harlem Globetrotters were a joke basketball team. I see no difference in City.
Even the best racehorses are given handicaps.
What is the point?
There is no point to them, especially because they are, even speaking objectively, a small-ish club.

They are a franchise. It's not "Manchester City" now, its a vessel for the Abu Dhabi sportswashing project. They have been rebranded and rebadged and the club bears no resemblence to the old Manchester City.

People might accuse us of being bitter (as United fans) but I am the first person to say that Liverpool have been fantastic under Klopp. All credit to them, superb achievements, great manager, great team and they arguably deserve more success than has been reflected by the number of trophies they have won - mainly because the oil cheat-code team hoover up the majority of the trophies and score 100 points every year.

It will kill football. When Newcastle get going and its them and City winning every trophy in sight, leaving the historical big clubs to fight for top four, folk will become even more disallusioned

City are living rent free in some people's heads. Entire posts and now threads being dedicated to how just money alone has made them successful. Funny as heck. And Newcastle have not turned on the heat yet.

Unfortunately this sums it up. I can't see the city dominance being shattered any time soon. Even with Newcastle it'll take their oil money a few years to bear real fruit.

The problem is not the money, its where the money comes from and the ethics behind the people controlling City. We already know how the Russians infiltrated football and the country as a whole. Now we have Saudis do it and no one cares. We barely know the full extent of what they are doing. Everyone is bought out. Including politicians etc. It goes beyond football. But City will be stopped....by Newcastle.

Absolutely. It's amazing how many Utd fans have bought into this narrative.

Not a real football club in my eyes, nothing they do matters and will always be seen with an asterisk.
I think fans now would feel the same way. But what about 5-10 years from now? When a lot of younger fans grow up watching and supporting City dominate. They'll be like Chelsea today.

And all the talks will be about some other club which recently got taken over by a multi billionaires or some country.

You really believe this? City is only revealing the money spent on signings and wages to comply with FFP. The spending somehow always magically close to Man Utd's figure to make it looks real.

There are many other "creative" payment method in their book. They have been caught on this too.
And you really believe your argument could work but reversed??

come on, if your saying City are being so dodgy (which I agree they most likely are) then Of course United most likely are too

it’s not just City you know

There’s some clueless posts in here but this one jumped out. Quite surprised seeing it’s from a Liverpool fan too.
It only stood out because I’m a Liverpool fan

not because of what I posted

I shouldn’t be surprised on a United forum that United fans would have their blinkers on when it comes to City and their money

Anyone with a brain knows City among many teams are loop hole rule avoiding specialist, but that doesn’t equate to Spending more than United

United have just spent their money terribly, it’s quite simple

To reiterate, this thread is NOT about United.
It’s about the pointlessness of a team that is essentially destroying the top flight of football.
I would argue that it could backfire against their owners too, as football fans get fed up of the unfairness of it all.
By the end of this decade, unless they get reigned in, 99% of fans will be turned off the game.

I've said it before.
I've never felt nothing for a club before. Every other club generates some sort of emotion. Love, hate, admiration, respect, amusement, boredom, fear, etc.
For city there is nothing. I don't care that they 'won' the league as the reality is, they haven't. They've bought it.

Everycity fan knows deep down that the club they supported pre 2008 longer exists. They are a soulless club and everything I'd hate our club to become.

Yes I love it. I love their football, the way they manage their players and transfers. Arsenal the way being managed for the past 15 years were nowhere close to win anything. The players if not City will go to other big clubs anyway. Our irrelevance has nothing to do with City.
I tried to make this make sense in my head and reversed it, imagining if it was Spurs. It would still not make any sense for me to “love spurs” unless I was actually a Spurs fan, regardless of the fact we’ve been mismanaged.

City fans aren’t blanket banned on here, you can just be honest. You don’t need to pretend you’re an Arsenal fan.
