Thought we could reminisce for a few weeks, until United realise there is a transfer window active and panic bid for Fellaini on October 5th.

Ronaldinho for me.

I was on teletext 303 every day, several times a day, genuinely believing the announcement that he'd signed was going to break any second.

And then I remember seeing this as the main headline on BBC teletext and I thought he'd signed...

RONALDINHO CHOOSES MAN UTD

Oh... :(

I had one every window for a few years, until it got too painful & I gave up.

Sneijder, Hazard, Thiago, Vidal

I believe those were 4 consecutive years also. It’s the hope that kills you.

I lurked the caf at the time of the Sneijder saga. “We don’t need him, we have Cleverley”

I also really wanted Marcos Senna back in 2006. Im numb to transfer sagas ending in heartbreak now. Doubt I’ll even bat an eyelid when Sancho doesn’t happen.

Ronaldinho, was my first rodeo and I was a young bull but with Thiago, well, let’s just say I got broken in rightly.

Actually it was Sneijder tbf.

I was extremely hyped for Benzema. Thought he was a real deal back in Lyon and it seemed like a natural trajectory for him to come to United. Remember being truly gutted he ended up in Real.

Thiago for me. Still painful. Will be more so if he goes to those scumbags.

This too. He had a great game against us and thought it was happening. But he made the right choice in hindsight! Great club career

This thread is like being on a diet and talking about all the finest food you’ve ever ate. Or nearly ate.

Surely he won it all, but who knows - had he joined us at our peak in 2009 he could've been quite successful here as well. Perhaps under Sir Alex he would've been a different man and never fall out with the national team, allowing him to win the World Cup? I am still bitter he never joined us, yes

Yeah him and Kroos are the two that really stand out since Fergie left, however if we are looking at overall history too then would have to be Gazza and obviously Shearer when he left Blackburn.

Ronaldinho definitely. I was 18 and waiting for my college to start and had plenty of time like these days to browse redcafe.

The Robin Van Persie one was a journey, especially when those pictures of Fergie meeting Wenger in London popped up online. The Thiago one with the "Nos Vemos en Manchester" was a classic to really get stuck into. Hazard's saga became too deep when people started analysing the colour of this kids blue shirt Hazard was holding thinking it was some sort of cryptic clue as to where he was going...

Since then I can’t get into sancho knowing how the club operates. Way too much potential for annoyance so I’m going to not get fully invested in muppeting anymore and just wait till the window closes before inevitably continuing to complain about how we waste our money when we do actually spend it, have weird random owners who never address the fans and hold us back, an arsehole with no football business knowledge, who helped leverage shitty owners into power using us as collateral, running our football operations and his mate with no previous football business knowledge handing out mega contracts to average players who we struggle to sell. Lovely.

I remember being on holiday in Jamaica, and there was terrible slow internet. Saw a headline that we'd signed Ronaldo, and I lost it. Clicked on the link to read more, and 2 minutes later I was like who???

Arjen Robben for me, I've never been hit as hard as that by a missed signing. I still can't quite believe that it never happened.

Has to be Thiago. I mean, I’m still hurt by the Liverpool rumors!

Ronaldinho is certainly up there, but I wasn’t as invested – by the time of Thiago’s transfer I had been hooked up on caf and his thread, even though I was still a lurker if I remember correctly. Those Olly’s gifs, see you in Manchester etc. :(

Vidal was the most mental I’ve seen. Stuff was coming through at 1-2 in the morning and you wouldn’t dare go to sleep.

Luis Saha got me excited too. He looked class for Fulham from what I remember. Decent for United too but sadly for his injuries.

This was amazing at the time. Can’t remember the name of the hack but he printed something about Sneijder and Sir Alex was not happy.

I remember the hunt for Batistuta way before all these social media days.

Back then we didn't pay well though, so were never getting him

Sergio Ramos. Was obviously never going to happen, but I was still absolutely gutted.

Bale is the big one for me, would have been our next Giggs and been loved by the fans.
We could have paid him as well as Madrid did and would have been better for everyone including Bale.

I think he would have tore teams apart for us in this league.

Would have been a nice weapon to have in the CL too.

I was only a lurker at the time but I recall a lot of brilliant gif's in the Thiago one, and it had the whole thing with the beach ball etc. - an incredible saga.
Those were the days. In the absence developments Olly or...CodeCX(?) would still periodically cook up a new gif or photoshop.

Lucas Moura for me. Woke up every dawn googling his name to see if some Brazilian newspaper had news about him to us.

Moura broke my muppet heart and Hazard broke my muppet spirit. :(
