Which striker should we sign this summer?

Let’s say we have 100m to spend on a ST + an AM. What would people choose?

A) Osimhen or Gyokeres + Cherki

or

B) Delap + Cunha

Effectively, higher risk “only done it in lesser leagues” vs lower risk “prem proven”.

Wish we could afford to buy two so I never have to watch Højlund in a United shirt again.

If we end up with Delap being our sole signing at striker it’s going to just be another season of struggling to score. I’d be fine with Delap if we brought in another forward but it won’t happen.

first option definitely.

Yeah I haven’t kept abreast of his situation I just vaguely remember seeing a ~£55m bid online somewhere.

I’d imagine high £50s would be demanded.

I think he’s outstanding.
Include Hojlund in the deal for good measure

Probably option B.

I don’t think we can take the risk of A) given the poor record of Serie A strikers in the PL historically too.

I think Hugo Ekitike would be a fantastic signing, and stats this season are 45apps, 22 goals, 10 assists, he really reminds me of a young Isak.
He has a top level all round game, great at holding up the ball and playing in others, just needs to develop that stone cold killer goal scoring instinct, and he'll be a world class forward in a few years.

Pretty sure his price will be out of our reach

B without a doubt. We don't have another season to wait for either of the three in A to catch up to the pace of the Premier League. Bring in Delap + Cunha for this season to contribute starting in August. Then go big in 26/27.

Though, I'd be happy to see us take a chance on Kubo in an exchange involving Antony + some funds.

I get your point, however can't leave all of GK, RWB, athletic CM until the summer of 2026 that's for sure

Likely option A would cost a good bit more than 100M now we have established there is no release clause for Cherki.

There’s just something about these young players with one or two good Bundesliga seasons. I immediately think of the likes of Havertz, Werner, Sancho, etc.

You all need to prepare yourselves for the inevitable signing of Jamie Vardy when we fail to sign either of Cunha or Delap.

Ideally a blend of A and B, however with our finances and potential no CL football it's unmanageable

So you don’t want Cherki (plays in France) and Gyokeres (Plays in Portugal) because you believe that players recruited from Serie A (like Salah/ or historically like Henry) usually do quite poor in the PL ?

Not just that no. But it’s absolutely a factor. Salah and Henry aren’t good players because they came from Serie A (a very different Serie A to the modern one I’d argue) they succeeded because they had world class technical skills and physical attributes combined.

Osimhen is also nothing like either of those players his technical level is far below that so it’s a bit of a silly comparison to make especially given I can more recently point to players like Kane, Rooney etc.

I think you’re underestimating the physical level of the PL vs Serie A. There’s a reason nobody has leapt at the chance to get Cherki or Osimhen.

After all Osimhen is a player who failed in the Bundesliga. Usually this forum even talks down players who were a success here, so it's astonishing that this is almost never mentioned about him.

Still bugs me how no one at the club thought that signing Marcus Thuram on a free would be a good idea.

can I suggest the not-a forward but a goalscorer kevin de bruyne. from the sounds of it, he's pissed off with city for not offering him a new contract... what better way to punish them than to come to us... (yeh, I know it's not happening)

Mbeumo looks handful and would connect with Amad on the right wingback role very well. He had Amas on a toast all game, a case could wel be made for child abuse how he tormented him.
