You trying to impress somebody weaste?

I turned it off temporarily to see what kind of difference it would make with the cgi-limits. Sadly the answer is feck all.... :(

Turn it back on for me there will ye? ;)

I could have told you it would make no difference except slow the bloody forum down like hell!

And if I could turn it back on I would, but you never offered to make me an admin with server powers did you? ;)

Niall = Never listens to Weaste (who is one of the only one who knows what he is talking about) ;)

CGI Limits = CGI, turn off the PHP (which take CGI requests) and only have ultimatebb.cgi is obviously not going to solve the problem. :p

It has no solution on the current server. People will just have to live with it, but the other thread was right. Having guests does not help the situation as they are invoking CGI scripts, be Perl or PHP, they invoke a request for a script on the server.

The worrying thing is that someone, a scouser for example could write a program that constantly hits this site with CGI requests. It would be constantly down!

Even regular posters that get the CGI-Limits message probably cause problems, as they click and click and click on the refresh instead of waiting a minute, thus causing the whole thing to last even longer by them making more CGI requests.

You are between a rock and a hard place. <img src="graemlins/smirk.gif" border="0" alt="[Smirk]" />

I thought i'd intervene here to spare Weaste the embarrassment of making 5 consecutive posts without an answer. ;)

And just for the record, I agree with everything Weaste said.

Well I would if I understood it I'm sure. :)

I understand all that weaste but I reserve the right to experiment ;) And PHP is run in CGI mode on this host (as far as I know) so it's the same problem whether it's on or off - although the PHP processes faster I'm sure.

As for this stupid fecking host (I hope they're not reading this!) I've had enough of them as I'm sure everyone else has and I'll be getting a new one as soon as I trip and fall into a big pile of money.... ;)

Maybe we should start charging scousers to use the forum - that should keep them off the front lawn! ;)
