Look at their FA Cup run compared to ours in 99. Look at their CL run compared to ours. Then compare the quality and mentality of the respective Arsenal teams we challenged. It's pretty obvious whose is more impressive even without factoring in the financial doping.

Of course 1999 is more superior - the romance (class of 92), the drama/emotions (CL final injury time equaliser+winner), the legendary moment (Giggs wonder goal), and the relieve when with Fergie final leading us to win CL after years of domestic domination... its almost impossible to match. Plus no one expect us to do it at that time, its kind of miracle when it happened.

But lets just say if City won it this year, we would have the media going on about it it over next few years. It would be kind of unbearable, as their treble winning team would be compared to our 99 all the time too.

If City pull off the treble this year it will be equally as impressive as ours as soon as they provide the evidence that proves they are innocent of the charges that the PL have levied against them.

Whilst the charges hang over them, and of course if they are eventually found guilty then the achievement is at the very least tainted.

Not necessarily that 1999 was better, but I do think that it was a lot harder to do back then.

English clubs back then were nowhere near in the 90s - I think we were the first English club to get to the final for about 9/10 years back then. Domestically, it's been similar-ish although Arsenal were obviously on a very similar level to us.

These days, this is an era where money has made English clubs dominant. An English club gets to the European final pretty much most years. Domestically, we've seen teams get closer to 100 points more than ever before. So statistically, it's not something that would be as out of the blue as it was back then.

The drama of it, as pointed out in that article, was a huge thing in the romance of it. Nearly lost out in the league, were a Giggs wonder goal away from going out the FA Cup, and then obviously we know how they won the CL.

City will probably win it from here but urgh, who cares. Very boring, straightforward with the hero of the story being an absent corrupt billionaire who hires lots of lawyers.
No matter how many trophies City win or if they achieve "The Treble" they will always be "Johnny Come Latelys" and a poor second best to United in every way conceivable.

The treble winning side of 1999 has to be the greatest club side in English football history, the sheer drama of that season is unparalleled before or since.
The last minute goals, the Giggs goal against Arsenal in the cup semi final, Schmeichel saving the last minute penalty in the same game, coming back from the dead against Juventus, and all largely done
with players who broke through the ranks, the class of 92, THAT season will be remembered till the end of time, and Solskjaers won it!! absolute goosebumps!
