If he wanted to leave then, why drag this on?

We risk having him leave for 5MM quid in the summer of 2011, could have gotten 50MM in the summer of 2010 and bought a few replacements.

It's unlikely he will contribute anything this season other than collect his paycheck. The cnut.

Exactly why sell a player as soon as they say they are unhappy?

Most professional players will still give their all. Its in their interests to carry on playing well.

He won't leave for £5m, there's an unwritten agreement between the members of the ECA preventing this from happening. It is stupid to vilify Rooney as a cnut when you have only heard one side the of the story.

We only knew on August 14th too.
This and Fergie thought he could change Rooney's mind and that Rooney would have acted professionally but unfortunately none of the two things have happened.

I think we could still get about 20 Monopoly Money for him.

If we sold him in the summer, it would have been all put on the Glazers. Why do that, when you can sell him in Jan for the same money whilst letting Rooney make himself public enemy no.1?

Now the Glazer's can't really be blamed, Rooney looks a cnut, we get cash and SAF once again comes out smelling of roses.

How, when the situation would be exactly the same?

Rooney camp doesnt want to discuss a new contract. He asked to leave.

feck all to do with the Glazers.

Because playing the waiting game is pretty dangerous. If a deal can't be sorted out in january then he can go on a Bosman. Also it was Rooney's camp that leaked the stories, so it kind of spoils your theory about us letting Rooney vilify himself.

You seriously don't think it would be spun as yet another 'Glazers are to blame' screamfest?

Now, at least Rooney has made himself look like a twat and it can't even be questioned if it was a asset strip.

But that is exactly what has happened. If the club came out first and gave a load of shoulder shrugs, it'd look similar to the Tevez situation. Now it's clear this is all Rooney and his advisors, or at least it looks that way.

My point is how could the club have foreseen Rooney's camp leaking the information? For the plan to work, they'd need to be sure that Rooney's camp would leak it.

Bullshit- the club has gone stale and you know it- and that has everything to do with the debt and glazer policy- and that is why he wants to leave, period.

Utter drivel. I don't know the club has gone stale, I don't even think that. I think we are treading a shit path, but I trust enough in SAF and the majority of our fans to keep us going strong.

You don't know the facts, you just have an opinon, so leave the periods to your missus.

Knowing Rooney as closely as Ferguson does, you don't think this ankle injury thing couldn't have been a nudge in the right direction?
Sir Alex isn't the type to do that. He didn't even do that with Ronaldo and why would he? He's overseen the development of those two players from a very young age. You're being paranoid here Lambs. Anyway we'll see just when any agreement was made by the size of the transfer fee we receive because if it was last summer, the fee should be quite a hefty one.

I'm not being paranoid at all, you don't have to read too much into everything posted on here you know.

It's what I first thought when SAF gave that interview today, and it's what I still think now. Do you not think that the development from a young age thing you mentioned, could be a very good reason for Fergie to have had enough and want rid of him?

2 weeks notice before the transfer deadline probably wouldn't have left enough time to buy and sell even if they didn't intend to get him to change his mind which they obviously did (SAF said as much).
