Adam, Henderson, Downing and Carroll

They are going British atleast, thats the only positive I can draw without laughing at the transfer fees.
The players will all improve their team & squad, so it's good for them really. The fans will probably be delighted. Just seems like an awful lot of money for players who aren't really world beaters but if the owners are willing to spend it then fair play to them. They haven't picked up a centre-back yet, which they were obviously keen to do, so expect to see them spending more cash.

wouldn't be surprised to see us giving a new centreback a miss this summer. Think a leftback will be a higher priority.

I can see why they'd want him, his game plays to Carroll's strengths and he's just starting to fulfill the potential he showed at Boro. They won't be getting any value for money out of £20m though.

Their transfer policy is very odd IMO, I always think resale value should be taken into account when doing a deal, gambling substancial amounts on player's who've the time and potential on their side to be worth more than you payed further down the track is a good way of measuring it. Fact is that in the case of Carroll, they'll be lucky to see him ever become worth even half the sum they paid for him despite his age and qualities, Henderson in all probablity won't be subject of a £20m offer again, ditto Downing. I'd say since the new yanks took over, only Suarez at £23m and Adam at £7m have provided any sort of value for money/potential value for money. Suarez at that price was a relative bargain and Adam for £7m is a decent bit of business. Everyone else they've bought/could buy though has been vastly overpriced.
Signs does point to re-sale value not being particularly important for FSG in their calculations .

We can't stop here. This is bat country.
Poor Suarez, they probably roped him into joining with promises of building a top level team with world class signings.

Instead they sold Torres and used the funds to sign a load of duff players Suarez has probably never even heard of.

Looks like Kenny is desperate to buy the league again. Someone should tell him it's not 1995.

TBF, its better than some of the obscure signings previous regimes were making. It will improve the squad and play to some of the players strengths. They obviously wanted Downing and whether they paid 10m or 20m shouldnt really matter as long as he delivers for them.

Its just the way the transfer market is nowadays. At least you know what you will get with him rather than several players from a different league for a cut price (but who all add up to the same value)

With Adam's Hollywood balls and Downing's crosses it does look like they are setting up their team to get the ball on Carroll's head as much as possible. Suarez might be starting to wonder how he fits it Liverpool's game plan.

He is a decent hardworking professional. He is probably on someone like Milner's level. Did well for Villa but in no way worth that sort of fee.

421 - Since Aug 2004, only 4 players (Lampard, Fabregas, Gerrard & Giggs) have created more PL chances than Stewart Downing. Craftsman.
Hmm...how do you define a "created" chance.

feck knows. But apparently Henderson topped that stat in the league this past season, so it might be considered an important one by Commoli.

Sounds like an even-more-bollocks stat than assists. Sky were going on about someone who made 42 'chances' last season (but only 2 assists). They probably count every fecking corner as a chance.

assists are no more bollocks than goals.

Honestly the 3 of them are barely worth 35 million.

The number of times a pass a player has passed to another who has shot immediately after or the number of times a player has passed to another who shot inside the box, I'd think, the latter would explain why the likes of Brunt, Davies and Downing are so high in the list.

This has been doing the rounds on RAWK so I'm guessing Comolli is a firm believer.

35 million bid for Kevin Davies coming up next.

Redcafe: Young 15M, very good player. Downing 20M, overpriced, mediocre player.

Yes but it doesn't take into account bad or inaccurate crosses.

A cross maybe bad and may lead to a player heading the ball straight at the keeper.

Now the header is on target but had the player crossed better the striker may have scored. Infact this sort of thing happens all the time with wingers. Yet this would count as a "created chance" eventhough its a bad cross in reality.

Very ambiguous and doesn't say much at all IMO.

Fair enough, but the fun fact to remember is which of the two players Liverpool went after first...

Is he assembling an all English XI?
I do think Kenny is deliberately trying to regenerate a British culture and mentality as the dominant one at the club.

He's assembling an English XI out of the English players the English don't particularly want in the England team.

He's doing a cracking job so far to be fair to him. He just needs to go after Gareth Barry and he's almost got the full set.
