Rosicky is miles better than Downing. It's like saying Hargreaves is no better than Djemba-Djemba.
Just when I thought when you were starting to talk some sense, you go and say this. Rosicky can never be as good a set piece taker and crosser as Downing is.

He's better than him post injuries but that's not saying much. Rosicky was in a different class beforehand.

Rosicky was a far better player than Downing. A classy player on the international stage. Arsenal never really got the best out of him and I dont think it's entirely due to injuries although obviously they are a huge factor.

At this moment in time though Arsenal would be a better team if they replaced Rosicky with Downing. Itd be odd though because Downing doesn't really suit their style.

That is true. However he is better contrary to Pete's statement. Which actually goes to show how badly things have gone for Rosicky rather than how good Downing has been.

Rosicky was hyped beyond belief when he scored that belter in the world cup(I don't remember who it was against). But for Arsenal, he hasn't been that impressive at all. When he was signed, he was called a Pires Replacement but Injuries have taken their toll and he hasn't really fulfilled the hype that was given to him. I don't know anything about him pre-arsenal.

Rosicky during his Sparta Prague and Dortmund days was ridiculously good. Dortmund relied heavily on him and Koller to pull them through games. Just been very unfortunate with injuries, that's all. He's every bit as talented as Nedved was, he just didn't get the opportunity to show it enough because of his dodgy hammies.

No real point in talking about the Rosicky of old. The new version shouldn't be getting near your team. He's incredibly mediocre now. Wenger would be right to ditch him and see if he can't find someone who can play at the level you need. Even someone like Chamberlain would be a good risk to take as his energy would add something in Rosicky's absence.

This, pretty much. Shame about the injuries though, because the Rosicky of old was frighteningly talented.

Apparently last season he was suffering from a virus for much of the time. Once last chance Tommy.

Dalglish/Commoli must be completely bonkers paying £75M for Carroll, Henderson and Downing. That's about £35M worth of value.

I've never really rated Downing a whole lot but he can cross very well and he'll improve them no doubt. He should certainly set up some chances for Carroll next year. Good business for all 3 parties.

I actually think he'll do pretty well for them.

He's improved quite a bit over the past year. Good crosser, decent turn of pace, can play out wide or through the middle.

20m seems excessive, though.

Inflated fee but a lot are these days. He should do well for them as you know what you're going to get with him. He'll stay wide and fire crosses in for Carroll to get on the end of.

20m for Downing? Really?

He's decent but nothing special. Liverpool have been spending a whole lot of money on some solid, above average players.

Adam, Henderson, Downing and Carroll

They are going British atleast, thats the only positive I can draw without laughing at the transfer fees.

I can see why they'd want him, his game plays to Carroll's strengths and he's just starting to fulfill the potential he showed at Boro. They won't be getting any value for money out of £20m though.

Their transfer policy is very odd IMO, I always think resale value should be taken into account when doing a deal, gambling substancial amounts on player's who've the time and potential on their side to be worth more than you payed further down the track is a good way of measuring it. Fact is that in the case of Carroll, they'll be lucky to see him ever become worth even half the sum they paid for him despite his age and qualities, Henderson in all probablity won't be subject of a £20m offer again, ditto Downing. I'd say since the new yanks took over, only Suarez at £23m and Adam at £7m have provided any sort of value for money/potential value for money. Suarez at that price was a relative bargain and Adam for £7m is a decent bit of business. Everyone else they've bought/could buy though has been vastly overpriced.
