Manchester United hit jackpot on US tour

When Manchester United toured the United States in the summer of 2003, the anonymity of the players was such that Sir Alex Ferguson’s squad were free to roam the streets of Philadelphia, Los Angeles and Seattle with all the presence of the Invisible Man.The average American sports fan would not have been able to tell Roy Keane apart from Kleberson, yet eight years on, as the Premier League champions prepare to face Chicago Fire at a 61,500 sell-out at Soldier Field later on Saturday, Manchester United’s age of innocence in the US is no more.

Thanks to the Premier League’s increasing popularity and a sustained push by the club’s commercial team, plus Nike’s ability to propel United onto the American market, just as in Manchester, Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur, United are now big business in the United States. More than 67,000 spectators turned out to see the 7-0 victory against Seattle Sounders last Wednesday, while next Saturday’s Champions League final rematch against Barcelona at FedEx Field, the home of the Washington Redskins, is expected to test the stadium’s 82,000 capacity.

The financial benefit to United of their five-game tour has not been divulged by the club or the tour organisers, but a flat fee in excess of £3 million, plus commercial and attendance-related spin-offs, is understood to be close to the figure the club can expect to generate.

Next summer, the United bandwagon is likely to head back to the Far East, but Ferguson admits that the States is now firmly on the map for United — and vice versa. “The big tradition at the club has always been about going to the Far East,” Ferguson said. “But we’ve had fans outside our hotels here and the fanaticism is there to see. You cannot help but feel strongly that the United States is now an emerging soccer spot.”

I'm just going to use this thread to say that I had absolutely no idea we were in this Challenge League thing until somebody mentioned it in the Chicago Fire match thread.

People on youtube think its Kiko behind the cam..
Its Ando

Kiko is probably the one who says 'Good Nani, good'
oh and Berba is so fecking cool
You can't sound more Italian when you're speaking English than that person does.

Surely that's Kiko.

Compare if you still think it's Andow.

v
And, when you see Nani, you can expect Kiko with him.

"Diouf/Lindegaard/Rooney/Carrick, can you sign for me, please?"

Why can't people just say 'Wazza, come on and gimme your autograph'?

You've got some other players in related vidoes on the right.

I just love how Rooney is casually sitting there playing FIFA whilst getting paid thousands of pounds. Footballers dont realise how lucky they are.

And Berbatov is so fecking cool. Also, Anderson's English seems to have improved greatly.

Manchester United soccer stars have hit New York's party scene with style -- clubbing until 4 a.m. yesterday, dancing with belly dancers and downing Champagne "in a celebratory mood."

Top players from the British squad, including Wayne Rooney, Ryan Giggs and Rio Ferdinand, hit a series of hot spots Sunday night -- including Lavo, where partner Rocco Ancarola put on a sexy Moulin Rouge-themed burlesque show.

A witness told us: "The team and their staff took over half the restaurant. Once the music started after dinner, they were dancing on the tables and the banquettes to the deejay. Some were wearing flapper headbands taken from the girls, masks and gangster hats. They were handed tambourines and maracas. One player even donned a fake moustache.

"Then the belly dancers came out and they were mesmerized. Ryan Giggs got up and was dancing with a belly dancer on a table, the guys were laughing. They all left at around 1 a.m. They invited a few girls onto the team bus with them, and two went."

The team, some of whom had also hit rooftop bar 230 Fifth during the evening, later rolled up to Chelsea's Juliet Supperclub. A spy told us, "They were in a celebratory mood. They ordered Champagne, vodka, scotch and mingled with a group of models. They stayed until 4 a.m., when they all got back onto the team bus without the girls."

The players, on a US tour, wanted to celebrate after Saturday's win over Chicago ahead of their game tomorrow against the MLS All-Star team, which includes iconic former Manchester United star David Beckham in Harrison, NJ.

A Manchester United rep said: "It was a day off, and some of them had planned to meet up at Lavo. The full squad wasn't there and the group included team staff. Everybody was dancing on tables at Lavo, not just Giggs. That was the theme, the whole restaurant was dancing. None of the players invited girls onto the bus. Two girls got on the bus at Lavo, they were friends of the backroom staff, and one was with her husband. At the end of the night, the team got on the bus and went back to their hotel with no girls."

Sounds like they're making the most of the tour.

Cam someone on twitter ask rio or Kiko(he probably gets less questions so might answer)

Don't think they'll reply.

Jesus Christ. How can you still think it's Anderson, not Kiko... it's beyond me. That person sounds like Italian, Anderson sounds totally different.

Nothing against you, but you're a twat if you think it's Anderson, seriously.

Got a PM from a newbie Zoo.

Watched it on MUTV when it aired. Mandy Henry said it was Anderson behind the camera.
I can hear that Italian accent, and I really still don't believe it could be Anderson. By the way, Mandy is ugly.
