By that arguement, are you saying Phil Jones is the finished article? Comparative price tag? I do know what you are saying but 18 mil is a snip when you conscider how good this kid can become if he is nurtured the right way and United are the club to do that(although we have a bad record with keepers)
It's different with a keeper, any mistake and it tends to cost the team a goal.

In an ideal world we would have had VDS for another couple of seasons to work with DDG and remove a lot of the pressure/media critics.

De Gea looks a good prospect and has improved of late.

My issue is the fact we were not looking for a good prospect we needed the finished article and at the money we spent that is what we should have got.
The problem is, how many goalkeepers who are the finished article were available and would they have been good enough? Don't say Schwarzer or Friedel please like some other goon did. De Gea will be here for years, and can only get better. I'm glad we signed him.

I was hoping we would get Manuel Neuer but that was always going to be a tall order (no pun intended!)

Don't get me wrong I think DDG has all the bits to become a top keeper.

I think the run of games has helped him tremendously. Fergie needs to place his full trust in him for the remainder of the season.

Important saves. His kicking hasn't been up to his normal standard so far but that's a relatively small thing.

Knowing that even if you mess up you'll still get your chance next week does help a lot. Oh my god oh my god this is my only chance to prove myself is never a good place for any player to be playing from.

I might be talking rubbish, but he might be just punting the ball forward because he's afraid he might get distracted by the sun. Maybe his kicking would pick up when we switch over to the other end next half.

Gets better with each game he plays. Unsurprisingly. Thank feck Lindegaard's injury forced Fergie to put an end to all the chopping and changing.
I really hope Fergie sticks by him now. Nothing against Anders but I just think that De Gea has a lot higher potential, obviously a great shot stopper and better with his feet. He just needs experience to iron out a bit of the indecisiveness.

It's got to the point now where I'm really not bothered if the media don't rate him, for the reason that it may prevent a lot of the "De Gea to Barca/Real" rumours that they are bound to come up with.

Think he's been brilliant, going to be a fantastic asset for us in future.

I initially hoped we would get Neuer, but he has had some howlers this season in germany. DDG is doing great. Its just the media being hypercritical. I have seen other keepers make similar mistakes and yet nothing is ever said. Its Manchester United.

I know it's a cliche, but it's very, very important to have a goalkeeper who's confident. De Gea looks like a number 1 now, much more vocal with the back four.

I don't see it. He'll make mistakes like all young keepers and Fergie will give Lindegaard games, ostensibly to give DDG a break from the firing line. I don't really agree with it but I don't see Fergie changing the pattern yet.

Did everything to a high level today. He looks a much more confident, decisive player lately.

It's a shame that his performance will go unnoticed in media because of the North London derby...

His confidence is up because he's getting a run of games and his performances have improved as a result. Hopefully SAF doesn't rotate GKs again this season.
