I just couldn't see the point of playing Park. Mind you, even more mental was not playing Valencia.
Disagree with the work rate. He runs and runs but I think his legs are going. He's not as quick as he was or as fit (may be due to the fact he hardly plays) but his time is up here. I love him, but he just isn't good enough and the continual falling over and slipping is ridiculous.Once again though, he starts Park in our biggest game of the season over our best performing winger that season. Nani was our best player last season but Park played in the final over him. Valencia this season and Park starts again. In the past he could have put in a shift but now his work rate isn't anything more than just a little above average, and that is what happens. I don't blame him. He can't run around forever and age caught up with him. Obviously he wants to play whenever he can and you can't say he doesn't try, but he just lacks composure on the ball, strength and balance. It is a little ridiculous how many times he falls over in a game.
I meant his work rate is nothing more than average now because his legs being gone and him not being as quick. He tires much quicker now and that makes his work rate go way down.Disagree with the work rate. He runs and runs but I think his legs are going. This.Don't know if his decline has been dramatic. He's been not that great for years. I've been going on for 2 years at least that for a small player why can't he hold onto the ball, pass in tight spaces, and pass the ball first touch..
TBH I didn't agree with starting him in the CL Final last season but SAF did and then offered him a new contract which I didn't understand either.
But there you go.
He's poor. SAF said that Barcelona had showed the way to go after that game so you can't justify starting Park as following Barcelona's lead.
Fair enough. I thought you meant he doesn't try as hard. You're right he still gives everything, but just can't keep on running the whole match like he used to be able to.I meant his work rate is nothing more than average now because his legs being gone and him not being as quick. He tires much quicker now and that makes his work rate go way down.
Oh for a lazy genius in the current team...He was always all workrate and zero talent. However there were a time when we used to have a lazy genius on the opposite flank, which made Park, erm useful. Now he's as useful for us as bulls tits
I agree.Oh for a lazy genius in the current team...
I think when he has played earlier in the season, Park had very visibly regressed from the player he had been.It was his first start in a good few months, you can't expect him to hit the ground running. Fergie was a bit naive to start him, or even playing him when he isn't at his best form.
1) Did you think Park played on the wing tonight? I thought Giggs was on the left.Fergie is to blame for playing him today and out of position in other games, but I think we're overlooking the real problem here; Park just isn't very good anymore.
When in central midfield, Park will press the opposition, but after that he doesn't offer much in the passing department and has no composure on the ball. If you look back at the teams who've pressed us this year, especially Atletic, all the players doing the pressing possessed a great passing ability and were in the team because they offered much more than work-rate.
When he's on the wing which is probably his best position, our attack really suffers. We are a team that relies heavily on getting creativity out of our wingers and them setting up our chances. Park can't and won't cross the ball. He leaves that up to Evra, who isn't that great either. With Park on the wing, all the opposition has to do is double up on Nani or whomever and our dangerous wing play is effectively stamped out.
It's a shame really, because Park was an immense player for this club. But this whole season every time he's played there was usually nothing positive to say about him. I suspect that many people will be glad to see the back of him, if he leaves in the summer. Which is unfortunate, because he's done alot of great things for this club and should be remembered and missed the same way we did when John O'Shea and Wes Brown, left last summer.
I'm aware that Giggs was on the left today, I was giving my views on Park the central midfielder and Park the winger as those are the positions he plays for us, when he does play.1) Did you think Park played on the wing tonight? I thought Giggs was on the left.
2) It's not a matter of being glad to see the back of him. Personally I just couldn't see WHY he would be in the team tonight. We did no worse when he came off.
Ok, sorry for the misunderstanding. I still think Park is now ineffective in ANY position.I'm aware that Giggs was on the left today, I was giving my views on Park the central midfielder and Park the winger as those are the positions he plays for us, when he does play.
Welbeck a proven match winner? Hardly. One of his goal has resulted in a win. Wasn't an individual moment of magic that scored that goal. It makes him on of the least proven match winners in our team.Him playing today and instead of Welbeck was a pathetic choice by Ferguson, Park has no place in our lineup anymore whilst Welbeck has proven he can be a match winner. Not playing Welbeck earlier also cost Rooney a chance to make an impact.
Okay that's fair but the combination with Rooney is a winning one.Welbeck a proven match winner? Hardly. One of his goal has resulted in a win. Wasn't an individual moment of magic that scored that goal. It makes him on of the least proven match winners in our team.
Bollocks, he was fantastic up until the CL final last season. He pretty much won that Chelsea game for us, and it seems Fergie thought he could do it again. As much as I love and respect Ji, he's been shocking for 18 months now.
Errr... he wasn't so shocking when he ran Chelsea into the ground this time last year... so bollocks to you.As much as I love and respect Ji, he's been shocking for 18 months now.
Massive exaggeration that. Park's technical abilities weren't ever brilliant but he made up for it in other ways. Work rate, stamina, defensive nous, intelligence and his off the ball movement. He also improved his finishing and was handy for a goal or 2 in the later years. Last season he popped up with some great performances and came up with game winners. He's had a dramatic decline this season though and hasn't had one good game really. He was always all workrate and zero talent. However there were a time when we used to have a lazy genius on the opposite flank, which made Park, erm useful. Now he's as useful for us as bulls tits
That's a little unfair, don't you think? Not the most talented, no one argued that, but he's been very useful and a good servant. Not sure we will have him around next season mind you, but to say zero talent is harsh. He was always all workrate and zero talent. However there were a time when we used to have a lazy genius on the opposite flank, which made Park, erm useful. Now he's as useful for us as bulls tits
I dont know why you're taking it so bad. There are player with very little talent who had made a good career for themselves in football (ex Gattuso). Sometimes these guys can be useful if you play them in the right team. That's a little unfair, don't you think? Not the most talented, no one argued that, but he's been very useful and a good servant. Not sure we will have him around next season mind you, but to say zero talent is harsh.
People were full of praise when he played that pass to Hernandez to score against Chelsea at the end of last season. And again for his goal at Wolves.
I never said that he's the worst player I've seen in a United shirt. We've had worst like Bebe, Bellion and Diouf. What I said is that one strips him of all the workrate, there's little to justify why he's at United. Considering that such workrate is the first thing to go with age, then no wonder why Park is favorite of leaving the club next summer.there are many posts I would like to quote, but can't be arsed now.
I love Ji. but the last time I saw the real JSP was exactly one year ago (not 18 months, that is a bit harsh, considering the CL matches against chelsea and that PL match against them as well). the he just disappeared. probably he had the worst season in the United shirt this year, exactly how the last season was probably his best.
anyway, to blame him for yesterday it's just stupid. he shouldn't have played, considering his last match was more than 2 months ago, or something. but we always need scapegoats, do we? did he played against wigan and everton? because if we have lost the title (ok, it's not over yet, etc etc but I think it is) we lost it there, not yesterday night.
sadly, for me at least, he's going to leave. to those saying he was the worst player they've ever seen wearing United shirt, probably they are forgetting what he did for us, without moaning once, probably starting in the first 11 for less than half his matches he played in these 7 years. he is the kind of player every manager wants to have. but I reckon the time has gone. sadly.
