Yohann Cabaye

He's been impressive most of the times when I've seen Newcastle play this season. Their most dominant player in my book, dictates their game. They've, as someone has pointed out already, done really well for themselves ahead of this season, and should at the very least get a top half finish.

There will probably be noises about Cabaye moving to a top four team (us included, of course) by the time the season ends, but I've got a gut feeling based on nothing that he'll stay at least for another season.

The thing is, there ARE midfielders available who could do a job for us. Cabaye is one of them.

He would be well suited to partner Anderson, and got a bit of a shot on him as well which is something we lack. Good engine, good positional dicipline, consistant if not brilliant passing.

He's not the solution to our problems though, but would be a perfectly fine option.

That's pretty much my opinion on him as well at the moment, but I've got this feeling that he could well take his game up another notch. He seems the right type and character, if nothing else.

He has gone quiet in games a few times this season, mind.

Well, not gone quiet as such, as his defensive work and covering of ground is still superb but I wouldn't say he's dicated our play all of the time. There's still large stretches of games where Tioté is the one in possession and forcing the passes. There's also been times where they've been outnumbered 3v2 (QPR and Wigan) which has meant they've both struggled to get a foothold in games.

I read a statistic that he's currently covering twice as much ground per game as he was in France. It's a hard transition to make coming over from France (although more transferable than many leagues) and he's still going through than transition at the moment.

He has to as he's out of his comfort zone and also because the PL requires a bigger effort in terms of stamina and even strength

Very true.He had the likes of Balmont and Mavuba doing all the hardwork and running. It's not like he was lazy, the work was just divided between 3

So when do we sign him? You can get Darron Gibson in return if you like. He'll score some goals.

Brilliant player, and superb through-ball for Cisse to score Newcastle's 2nd goal. He would walk into our starting eleven and its quite a pity that we are always looking towards the unattainable likes of Hamsik, Modric, Hazard, etc when there are plenty of midfielders around that could significantly improve the quality and options we currently possess in the middle of the park.

He's had a brilliant season. I'm not so sure he'd walk into our team mind. With two midfielders, he'd make it in beside Scholes, however he only narrowly edges it ahead of Carrick for me.

Newcastle deserve a lot of praise for signing him though. I had doubts about them when they went and got rid of Barton and Nolan, but in hindsight it was a wise decision. Cabaye has more ability and technique than the two of them put together.

Cabaye has done well, but he's been quite inconsistent. He had a great big drop in form during the middle of the season, but has come to the boil again at the end.

Cabaye had been anonymous for a few months before his recent purple patch. Calm down.

He still doesn't cover enough ground for me to play in a midfield two effectively. I think he's in his best position now, released of defensive responsibilities somewhat at the front of a midfield three.

He is not having a brilliant season. He went off the boil for two-three months after a good start. Now Pardew seems to have found his favored position in an attacking midfield position, in which he has flourished.

Yes, he has had a brilliant season. For someone who wasn't really hyped up that much and not a lot was expected of, he's had a brilliant season by his standards.

Yes, he went off the boil, but that was largely because the rest of his team were slightly off the boil for a while as well.

Pardew has done an excellent job this season, however there were games that he should've set his team out to control, but he instead decided to go for a more defensive approach. By doing that, he limited Cabaye and what he could do.

To be fair, Pardew has been immense, I for one predicted a definite Newcastle struggle as I didn't think their team would gel out, I knew the talent was there but Pardew totally changed that and made them into a CL qualifying team.

Brought the best out of all players, Simpson has been also looking perfect as their RB, Cabye Tiote ? Wow ! Ba and Cisse... What a brilliant signing Cisse has been for them and we predicted that they'll bottle it once Ba was in the African nations cup...

At last Ben Arfa is showing the potential on why he was dubbed Frances new hope and the best technical player of that generation ( benze-ben arfa ) and things are looking perfect for them.

If they can keep these players together, they'll be a very good side to watch and to be fair and honest, they're already a step above Liverpool.

He went off the boil because we spent the middle part of the season bypassing the midfield with some awful football. His workrate, positional play, pressing and tackling was all still excellent during that period. That said, the advanced midfield role in the current set-up gets much more out of him in an attacking/creative sense.

He's still had a very good season and has been one of the best signings we've made in years. Having a significant technical and physical advantage in midfield over 75% of the teams in the league is possibly the crucial factor in us leapfrogging them since promotion. That and having clinical goalscorers.

Newcastle boss Alan Pardew admits he could lose some of his top stars this summer.

The Premier League manager of the season has picked up the likes of Yohan Cabaye, Papiss Cisse and Demba Ba on bargain deals and the Magpies have been transformed from also-rans to top four contenders.

Pardew expects their success will lead to big-money bids for his key players, but he hopes Newcastle owner Mike Ashley will not easily agree to any sales.

"It's impossible to restrict Real Madrid, Barcelona, Chelsea, Manchester City from coming in for one of our players," said Pardew.

"If Yohan Cabaye gets a call from Manchester United and they tell him he is going to be the next Paul Scholes, I am not going to be able to stop him"
Alan Pardew
Quotes of the week
"We have players who are not on the salaries these top clubs can offer.

Money

"The one security I have is that Mike Ashley is a difficult seller. He is not going to let someone go for £7million. He is going to want top, top money.

"But if Yohan Cabaye gets a call from Manchester United and they tell him he is going to be the next Paul Scholes, I am not going to be able to stop him.

"It is going to cost Manchester United a shedload of money, but until we have Champions League football, and we might have that by this weekend, we cannot compete with that."

Meanwhile, Pardew is in relaxed mood ahead of Newcastle's final game of the campaign at Everton on Sunday.

While Arsenal and Tottenham are desperate to achieve a top-four finish, and with it UEFA Champions League football, qualification would be a bonus for Pardew and his players.

Pinnacle

Touted as potential relegation fodder at the start of the season, the fifth-placed North East club could cap a magnificent campaign by booking their place in European football's elite club competition with a win at Goodison Park.

"This is where you want to be," said Pardew. "The pinnacle of the game is the Champions League.

"To actually be competing for it is more than we imagined and to have that opportunity is something that doesn't come along very often, and we want to try to grasp it.

"It's been a magnificent achievement by everyone at this football club, and we can't wait for Sunday to unfold."

Interesting comments, though he may just have been giving a hypothetical example.

Cabaye would probably wanna stay at Newcastle even if United are interested in him, he's among the breed of players who don't wanna rush things in terms of their career

Simpson is comfortably the worst player in their starting XI, hardly surprising they're getting rid when he turned down £25k a week, he wont get better anywhere else.

Using that logic you could say he moved to Newcastle for a season to put himself in the shop window and make sure he got a top move, he's 26 and coming to his peak where he should be aiming for a top move.

Cabaye's not good enough for United to put in a 23m bid for him in my opinion really. Top up another 10m or abouts could probably land us Modric

He'll be a good signing if we are actually interested. I think Tiote will be more of use though for us, especially if we have other plans of adding creativity with another signing.

Turned down a new contract. Pardew pretty much slated his agent on air.

Not arsed really, 99.9% confident whoever we sign will be a better footballer and defender. Simpson will get found out elsewhere a bit like Barton has done.

Fair enough. I reckon you might end up with Debuchy.

He could done it if he stayed with Lille and played in the CL this past season too.Lille were the champions this season and would have had better chances of retaining the title this season if he stayed.
I remember an interview where he said he is in no hurry or urge to join a top club ASAP, like if he has to stay at lower for 2-3 season in order to prepare himself for the step-up, he'd do it.

From what I've seen he's not quite good enough to really improve us.

Pardew's a cheeky cnut considering he raped Lille in the first place with Cabaye' buyout. Cockney cnut!

Pards was being a cocktease saying we're trying to sign 'Cabaye's mate'. So yeah I wouldn't be shocked if that's who it is considering previous links in the press.

Be interested to know what kouroux thinks of him.

Debuchy is and has been for a couple years the most consistent RB playing in France and french RB playing in Europe.Defensively very solid, a proper warrior who isn't shy of physical contact. He can score a few goals for his position and has good crossing ability. With Sagna's injury, he's set to start at the Euro 2012

How is that 'being raped'?

He basically got Cabaye for less than 4 million 12 months ago and suddenly thinks the cnuts worth 25?! Bet he was all laughs jokey when he took advantage of the buyout that ultimately feck Lille over. The mans a rapist!

So he's rubbish then. :p

Hopefully it's a goer. Apparently Rami has been trying to persuade him to go to Valencia, but Cabaye is definitely sexier so should have more pulling power.

Looking at the comments then speaking hypothetically would be my interpretation as well - we still seem to the default "big spenders" in people's minds despite the obvious reasons why that's an outdated notion.

Probably right. But he also said

"It's impossible to restrict Real Madrid, Barcelona, Chelsea, Manchester City from coming in for one of our players," said Pardew.

so it's hard to know. Probably something of nothing.
