Thing is sometimes I feel that nani gets treated to a harsher standard because of his talent rather than his actual contribution. I don't think nani has ever had a period since we could expect him to play better where he has been as concistently poor as Valencia this season. Like I've said before Valencia had his best season for us last year and nani was supposedly average yet they had also identical overall contributions.

Looking at those stats lists posted it shows he's usually done the business despite all this talk of him not contributing enough. I think it's more with his talent he could do more but he's still producing as well as anyone in his position. It's important to remember that from the list, Lennon, nani and Valencia play a more restricted roles as part of a 442 rather than having as much attacking freedom as the likes if silva, mata etc, even young at villa was often higher up the pitch.

Definitely agree with the first sentence, over the years I've been on the "anti" side in a few debates about Nani, I've occasionally reflected on my own position on him and found that to be true of myself.

That is natural. Highly talented people will always be judged to a higher standard, that is a truth that applies to the entire team, Man United need to play better than other teams to receive an equal measure of praise, because everyone knows we are capable of much more than most teams. And our poor performances will be jumped on by the media, because they are not becoming of a team of our stature and ability, where off days are more forgivable for some other teams. It comes with the territory.

But the second sentence is more misleading. He's certainly had periods of comparably poor form imo, it's just for shorter periods of 3 or 4 games here and there, rather than for months and months.

Exactly. Nani has had poor spells, usually on the left. But when he has poor form he loses his place in the team. Valencia doesnt seem to

What happened in that first half? I thought Nani never helps out defensively?

The tackle and the cutting through ball to van Persie was great, and a big feck you to everyone who says he doesn't track back.

HELLO
We spent the first 25 minutes going down the left, we'll probably have a lot more success down the right.

This is a bit of a Fanboy bump. Has anyone said that he "never" tracks back ?

Anyway, has tracked back well today.

He's always done more defensive work than he gets credit for. And people want to replace him with Bale, who does next to nothing defensively.

Isn't it the stereotypical view of a flair player like Nani?
Dunno, has anyone said that he never tracks back ?

Some times he can be lazy, and not as consistent in tracking back as the other 2 because he drifts infield more and gets frustrated. Especially when he's out of form.

It hardly means that he can never track back. Ofcourse, he can.

Playing in a free role IMO. Has popped loads at left. Been quiet so far.

Very good performance. Defensively he did well and kept things simple going forward.

Would be disappointed not to have scored himself, but another good game and he should be first choice winger.

I take it that today has been a bit more 'back down to earth' shall we say?

Good pass to Giggs for his goal mind, but overall what did you guys think?

Good game today. Valencia played well when he came on too... We just need to stop Young playing like a quarter back and our wingers look alright.

We were not using him when he was on the right, all the passes were going to Young and Evra and they were not creating much with it. When he moved to the left and started seeing the ball, we began to look dangerous. Welbeck should have scored 2 from Nani's passes

Did pretty much everything right today, no real moments of magic, but good passing, a good assist, good tracking back and always a threat. Should've had a goal though.

I think it's a match that people who like to call Nani "frustrating" would have hated, because there was absolutely nothing frustrating about him.

Another decent game for Nani, found some nice passes in and around the box. Out of our 3 wingers he's a must start for me.

If I ever hear Nani doesn't track back again  Good performance for him
To be fair he does track back but isn't as good as Valencia or Young at it. (I'm not saying nothing bad just pointing out a fact imo)

Was involved in pretty much everything good we did going forward, worked hard, provided an assist...

Should start against Madrid if we're using wingers. No way should Valencia or Young be starting over him.

Tidy, great link up all round, didn't do anything extraordinary nor did he let himself or his team down.

I don't really see what you're getting at. Most people want Nani in the team because he's not only a decent winger, he's got a very good football brain to pass the ball around very nicely. Displayed that for most of the second half.

Certainly one of our better players today.
