'End of an era' is thrown around a lot, but now it seems genuine. Fergie no longer manager, Gill no longer Chief, Scholes retiring, Rooney possibly leaving. Moyes coming in.

United themselves seem to understand that a new era is coming with this whole 'United continued' movement and I have a feeling it is a small clue that we could be seeing major changes this summer.

What are your thoughts and predictions for this summer?

OUT: Scholes, Fletcher, Anderson, Rooney, Nani, Lindegaard. (Plus some other non-first teamers ie Bebe)
IN: Begovic, Moutinho, Bale, Fellaini. (Zaha, Fabio)

I would be shocked not to see United bring in a huge name come in this Summer. I see this summer being a huge statement of intent from Moyes with Rooney out and Bale in. United continued.

Begovic is not going to come to us to be a back-up keeper, and he won't be first choice.

Basically that shit ain't happening, sucka.

I think if Rooney were to go, which I don't think he will, we need a striker near or on par with his calibre to replace him. That removes 30+ goals and assists a season by losing him, and as much as I love Hernandez I don't see him coming in and replacing those goals instantly, and neither will Welbeck.

A muppet summer would be a signing in Fabregas/Moutinho in CM and Bale/Ronaldo on the wing, a more realistic signing would be Strootman and Rodriguez. I've only seen clips of both of them, and a couple of full matches and they seemed decent, I trust United will make the right calls on whether they would be good signings or not.

That's some serious muppetry there
When in Rome..

Ooh, something different, clever.
Oooh, a sarcastic reply to a thread on Redcafe, how fresh.

I wonder if we did sell Rooney, would he go to madrid in some kind of exchange? The rumours about Di Maria are interesting considering Madrid need a striker?
A very interesting thought.

But... Muppetry.

I can see us going for a big name as some sort of statement signing following SAF retiring.
I would agree, Sir.

I imagine a decent winger to replace Nani and in the long term, Giggs and a central midfielder to replace Scholes and possibly Anderson (and remember it was Nani and Anderson earmarked to replace Giggs and Scholes in the long run anyway).

We'll be linked with 20 different names in each position and I think most will be happy with any link providing its a fairly established name at a decent age and fair price.

I wouldn't dare to predict because every week the wanted man will change. I'd want us to go for the likes of Bale and Gundogan but having let most of my inner-muppet out in the past I'd rather just 'watch this space'.

There is no way we will get Bale...Levy will make sure of that.

I'm not sure about big names coming in personally, I think Moyes will stick to the domestic market as he needs stable signings in his first season. Fellaini is a strong possibility but Moutinho would be ideal for United if he does look abroad.

I'm pretty sure Moyes was interested in him before he went to Porto, perhaps now he is in the ideal position to sign him. Spurs will still be keen but surely he couldn't turn down United. If Isco is available I would like to think we would be interested....super talent....but I imagine he will end up at City if Pellegrini takes Mancini's seat.

It may have been sarcastic, but it had more than a point.
Indeed it did. But it's a new summer. Once a year won't rape anyone.

James Rodriguez?

OUT

Rooney
Scholes
Fletcher
Bebe
Macheda
One of Valencia/Young/Nani (hoping it isn't Nani)

IN

Zaha
Zouma
Bale
Strootman
I'd take that.

Why sell Lindegaard unless he wants to leave??
I have a feeling he will want 1st team football. Maybe not though. Maybe.

Evening Standard of all people are saying Fabregas in!

That would be amazing, but ridiculously unlikely

What do I WANT (realistically)

Out;

Rooney
Anderson
Young
Lindegaard
Fletch (not "want" but seems likely)

In ;

Bale/Ronaldo
Moutinho (or equivalent, perhaps Modric)

I will be disappointed if Nani leaves. The above changes would leave us with a young, talented squad with the potential to become truly world class.

We always imagine wholesale comings and goings but they rarely materialise.

Why is Fabregas being mentioned? I wouldve thought he will get more minutes now that Xavi and Iniesta are getting older?

Do people genuinely think we'll get any of: Bale, Ronaldo, Fabregas? I just can't see it at all.

Fellaini & Wanyama are far closer to where my expectations are.

I can't see us getting Bale. He's too expensive. However I think we got a realistic chance of getting the latter two. Rumors say that they are unhappy with their clubs, Ronaldo is heading towards the end of his contract and with Rooney's gone United may decide to spend a bit of dosh.

The team surely needs a revamp. Scholes is gone, Fletch will probably follow him, Ando, Nani and Rooney will probably leave and no one should rely too much on Giggs (he's close to 40 now). The time of trail and error is over.

I doubt we will lose as many players as some think but it does look as though we will add midfielders

Scholes is gone, Fletch is likely gone as well, Powell may be loaned out (or not)

Therefore Ando will stay and we will probably add one midfielder, possibly two.

Fabio will return, Bebe will continue on loan, possibly with another club.

For me Strootman and Ronaldo will be added (pure muppetry). If we lose Rooney, I could see Moyes going for Fellaini - but then again RvP and Ronaldo would be quite formidable.

Maybe i'm just trying too hard to control the excitement in fear of eventual disappointment in terms of new signings.

I think i've bought in to the muppetry every year hoping for the big transfer, and was utterly amazed when the RvP news broke. Here's hoping for a similar coup this summer...

Why not? And not United quality. Really wish people would stop bringing him up half of you guys haven't even seen him play ala Strootman.

I've seen him play, and he's probably not good enough for Manchester United. Do you remember the last midfielder we signed from Celtic, he looked quality for them too...

i want ronaldo, bale, and gundogan. not going to happen though.

firstly, i hope moyes keeps rio. apart from the fact him and vidic are still probably our best CB partnership, he is one of the leaders in the dressing room. with scholes leaving now, it is giggsy, then rio, evra, vidic and carrick as the seniors there. fabio to return as well. he will provide back up for the both full back roles, and i bet he can even do a better job than valencia on the right wing at this moment.

midfield needs reinforcement. scholes retiring, and even if not for that we are still a bit short in this department. flecther's condition remains unknown, that left us with carrick, anderson, and cleverley. i hope we won't see much of jones in midfield next season. if we did not make any signing, an unwanted injury to carrick, and we are in deep trouble.

very disapointed with the wingers this season. valencia needs to attend a motivation camp or anything that can bring his confidence back again. nani is worth keeping imo. maybe moyes can start new things for him as well. add zaha into the mix and we have 5 wingers which is pretty lot actually. (giggs, zaha, valencia, nani, young). due to age, form etc neither of them are at the top of their game thus short of being match winners. that's why i hope we can get ronaldo (although he is not and in and out winger these days) or bale, who is turning out to be a top player now.

upfront, moyes will have to make a decision with rooney. if he stays, the quartet looks good enough to me. if rooney goes, then we need a worthy replacement because rooney is worth at least 40 goals and assists combined each season. we cannot afford to lose that.

There are many reasons why I think that this season could be the season were we may spend above the odds

a) Many high earners will be leaving the club (Scholes, Rooney, Nani and probably Fletcher) which will free some money in terms of wages or/and transfer fees

b) Moyes will be desperate to win some serious honours + he would probably want to make some safe bets and avoid that his first transfers decisions will be absolute failures. Fabregas/Modric and Ronaldo are all top talent, with EPL experience.

c) With Rooney gone, our money guys will need a new face or two to attach to posters and generate revenue. No one is better for such task then two world class players whom the majority of fans had been watching play week in week out for years

d) Our CM needs to gets sorted and with Rooney’s gone we’ll be relying a lot on a fantastic striker whose prone to injures. Fabregas and Ronaldo will do a lot to make this problem a non issue

e) The morale is low. SAF and Scholes are gone, Rooney and Nani will probably leave. We need someone to set the ball rolling again

f) Both Ronaldo and Fabregas aren’t actually happy with their clubs. This should make them available + reduce the price.

Cesc in for Scholes, Lewa to replace Wazza, give Spurs Ando and Nani (and a bit of cash) for Bale and bring Strootman in. I'm being deadly serious.

Net spend, not that much. Probably £60m, so about as much as Ronaldo. Wage costs will probably be the same too.

Bale will be the new poster boy.
